Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
ytterbiumanalyst replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's not a law, just a company policy. Large corporations often have stricter policies since they're more likely to be targets of lawsuits. -
Marine biology is arguably the most valuable field. It's estimated that about 91% of species on Earth have yet to be discovered, and the vast majority of these are in the ocean.* Who are the ones that discover those species? That's right, marine biologists. If we're valuing coffee over knowledge of our planet, then it's because our priorities are screwed up, not because the knowledge isn't important. I could go on all day about the stupidity that was outsourcing job training to universities and thus shifting the financial burden to workers rather than employers. More to the point at hand though is that we are seeing an extreme where young people are having to essentially start their job training years before they even are able to apply for a job, without knowing whether they even can get one. Then if they don't get that job, they have student loan debt and are forced into the same job prospects as people who never went to higher education at all. Those people are all over the Rust Belt and really would benefit from just going and getting a job like Cedar Fair offers and not incurring the debt in the first place. A lot of the people who started in the theme park industry just had some talent and went straight to work. They worked hard, caught the eye of their manager, and were promoted. The Season Pass Podcast is full of old timers telling those stories. So I don't buy the argument that it's all an individual's fault for having some ambition and they should have known when they started college what the job market will look like in 4-6 years. That's just not reasonable. Our economic system is screwed up. The fact that Cedar Fair is having to rely so much on foreign workers is evidence of the economy's brokenness, not its success. *https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/ocean-species.html

Yes, we want both of those. We want some people who are highly educated and we want blue collar workers too. We don't want to push our economy to the point where you have to put all your energy into years of work just hoping to land a job, and if you don't or can't do that, you're doomed to a life of poverty watching the income gap grow away from you. We want a world where hardworking people can work hard and do fine, where they won't be rich but they won't starve either, because for some people a career doesn't define who they are. Did you learn nothing from 2016?

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

I'm cupfused by the title, but the ride will probably be all right as long as they don't stop bribing people to like it with a free mini Reese's at the end. -
Dollywood Discussion Thread
ytterbiumanalyst replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This looks really great! Dollywood certainly didn't need another coaster, but Firechaser Express was a big hit with my older two, and another one at that level is appreciated. That bear ride looks really fun! I haven't seen anything like it, but apparently some of y'all have. That's the sort of ride we'd all like. Having just been last year, realistically it'll be a while before we can get back, but definitely will spend some time in Wildwood Grove when we do. -
Looks really great! It's really special to see how kids react to theme parks. Once I went off to college, I really didn't go to theme parks much until my oldest was about 3 1/2. We took her to Silver Dollar City and she loved it, and that's what got me back into the hobby. You really get to appreciate all the little things parks do that have nothing to do with adrenaline rush. Visiting a park with little kids can actually be quite relaxing since most of the park is not for them, and no one waits an hour for the things they can ride. Congratulations on Molly's progress. I've got a kid with special needs too, so I totally get celebrating all those little things that you don't appreciate unless they're achieved with a lot of work.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

^ I'm with you there. Diamondback is still one of the tallest and fastest in the world. I could look up which spot it's in, but I don't care and neither do you. Point is it's plenty exciting. A lot of the reason why I like hypers and gigas is that they do the stuff I expect from a coaster: They go up and down real fast. It's kind of fun to ride the coasters that do bizarre things, but there's a reason most coasters still just go up and down real fast. People love that. -

I asked them on Facebook, and this was their response: Ok. I didn't try to get on it before 5 pm. Honestly the only time I really did want it was at the end of the day going from Great White all the way back to my hotel at the north end. And I was more cheap than lazy so I walked it. -

Price changes don't always correspond with a new ride. SDC raised their prices for the first time in years, not this year with Time Traveler, not in 2016 with the new Fireman's Landing area, but last year in 2017, when there was nothing new. They do this when the finances dictate it, which isn't necessarily aligned with capex. -

If you've got the money, and rain is in the forecast, yes I'd say Fast Lane is worth it. Don't buy it in advance though; this is Midwest, and forecasts can and will change even up to the day of. Just have that money available and pick it up if it's necessary. Since you're going about 2000 miles, even if lines are like 20 minutes I'd say get the Fast Lane since it'll be difficult and expensive to get back later. -

Will it go ludicrous speed? Hmm...I don't know if the coaster could take it. -

1. Yes same price, but if you have a Platinum pass you get a free upgrade in park and you don't online. 2. Yes if you choose a date online you must use it on that date. 3. Not sure about that one, I've never bought 2 day anything at CP. -
