  1. That looks great! So nice to see simple rides making a comeback. Now, we need simple coasters to come back
  2. ^It had skids in the 80s, calipers in the 90s, and now mags. Every time this discussion comes up, the video links start appearing. It doesn't prove either point. The ride ran like a bat out of hell at one time. Hopefully one day a fast Beast video will show up. There are probably only a few videos even taken in the 80s. No digital stuff back then
  3. So I've dug on the RCT2 again, and am having some resolution issues with my new computer/monitor. I've got a new 27" monitor... when I play RCT2, everything is squished down a bit. It's like it has stretched everything horizontally. It's not drastic, just kind of annoying. I've tried every resolution setting in the "Options" menu of RCT2, and they all seem like that. Can I fix this? (This is probably going to be elementary to some folks, so thanks in advance.)
  4. Yup, that's why I added this It would have to come in from a different angle (footprint wise, not vertically) than it does; something would have to be heavily modified. But it could be done. Point is, with such a long ride that contains a pre-lift section, it could lend itself to 3 trains.
  5. I should clarify what I said. It was an unusually fast ride in the rain. Perhaps this was also a time when the brakes were lowered. I had ridden the ride in the rain, but the one time I was referring to was different. It is a fun ride, I agree In my eyes, they have butchered the ride (via brakes and annoying restraints). What more could they possibly do? The track is mostly flat. Only thing left is to pour new footings and create a whole new path.
  6. THIS. You could really see the Beast flex it's muscles on how far it got up that 2nd lift. Back of train at phone booth, or something like that. It seemed it went up over half way. I can remember a couple frightening rides I was lucky enough to get. One was during the rain, and the other was at the end of the day. There were always rumors (urban legends?) about the crew/maintenance "turning the brakes off" (remember, this was in the 80s; not too many hoops to jump through to make something happen.) The train felt like it was going to rip off the track. It was relentless.
  7. I think everyone who went there would be happy with two... but I'm sure the ride could be rigged with 3. There certainly is enough track, and pre-lift section. The only problem would be the short brake at the end - but that could be modified. But yeah, 2 would be a HUGE improvement.
  8. I've often thought of Six Flags as the Wal-Mart of the industry. You get more options, the prices are low, but the quality is sometimes iffy and the service is poor. Cedar Fair would be more like a Target or Costco.... similar looking to Wal-Mart, but service, operation and cleanliness is much better. And then you have the Mom & Pop stores - which are the Knoebels
  9. Not just 2 trains on their ride, but 2 trains capable of holding 30 riders in each. That's impressive
  10. Everyone hates on Six Flags because they have better coasters and more charm than Cedar Fair parks
  11. I respectfully disagree. I would say your statement is true since around 1992... but ask someone who grew up riding the ride frequently in the 80s (or the lucky few who rode it in 1979). I know this discussion comes up every year somewhere in coaster forums. Someone even posted a 1979 POV video to try to debunk that the ride used to run fast. Problem is, that video was during initial break-in and/or after a wheel packing/greasing. It wasn't Beast 1979 full speed. During the 1989 10 year anniversary party of the Beast (and the rest of that year), the ride was noticeably slower. It never ran very fast after that. Around 1991/92, the speed dropped even more. Somewhere in there, the ride was also painted a flat brown. That isn't significant to the rides' speed, but it was a memorable marker to me. The Beast I grew up on was out of control and sometimes downright scary; the colors of the ride were that red stain, new and old track wear colors everywhere. The ride looked wild. The new tamer Beast was that flat brown paint color. I never understood why they would waste money painting such a great looking ride with brown garage paint. I remember those years vividly; my friends and I were working at Cedar Point (Blue Streak!), and we'd drive down to KI all the time. We kept thinking the old Beast speed would return, but it never did. Soon after came those silly ratchet bars and individual seat belts. Never again would anyone get airtime on that 2nd drop :/ Don't get me wrong, the Beast is still a fun ride and very popular. But those early years established its reputation - the reputation that it still rides on today.
  12. There might be a catch-22 if those coasters were in another park. In any big park, Cyclops would have ratcheting lap bars, a re-profile of the drop and/or a complete stop before the drop - or all three of those. I could see Hades doing real well in a place like Holiday World. They would run 3 trains, too There sure is enough time and track for 3 trains...
  13. Everyone hates on Six Flags because they have more trees than Cedar Point.
  14. It's a shame... Mt. Olympus has so much potential. And anywhere with something like Cyclops is worth a visit.
  15. DEMON - Great America
  16. It's a thin line between love and hate We love what's in the parks, and what the parks could be (and maybe once were), but we hate some of the operations and ride conditions. It's not all about hate
  17. ^I've only been on Mind Bender, haven't done Mindbender yet But I look forward to it!
  18. 1. Mind Bender 2. Mind Bender 3. Mind Bender 4. Mind Bender 5. Shock Wave 6. Magnum XL-200 ...blah blah blah
  19. ...or visit the park on a TPR trip I've been fortunate to be on the last two trips that TPR has made to Fuji-Q and, amazingly enough, they both turned out to be fantastic days with everyone on the tour(s) getting all the available credits at the park - plus having plenty of time to spare! No ERTS - just Robb & Elissa surrendering massive amounts of time (and money) for the group, plus good timing, and I assume some sort of animal sacrifice Haha! Sounds like it... I wonder why the park wouldn't do group specific ERTs before or after the park opened/closed. Glad you managed to have a good time. That's the trip I need to be on!
  20. "There's a world class roller coaster sittin up on the hill called the Rampage..." oh yeah http://www.myfoxal.com/category/240204/video-landing-page?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=10001677#.UzmyKwcYxnQ.facebook
  21. ^That kinda stinks. Seems like the only way to enjoy this park would be during an ERT-laden event. Maybe Fuji-Q is the Japanese version of SFMM on a bad day
  22. I adore Lakemont; could spend a whole day there. As far as worst - I've had some horrendous days at Six Flags parks, mostly due to poor operations.
  23. Is it as good as wearing loose fitting flip flops on Diamondback at Kings Island (you're not allowed to take them off)?
  24. Has TPR ever had an ERT session at Fuji-Q?
  25. Maybe it just be a really great ride. A nice pre-lift section; super-high capacity; a lengthy ride full of trenches, tunnels and "cool stuff."
