What is your favorite Stand Up coaster?
WillMontu replied to the ghost's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Balder! Seriously, the only true stand-ups I've ridden are Shockwave and Scorcher. I think Scorcher is better, but I will hit a few stand-ups on the Midwest Trip -
KidTums Goes To Florida! An Ongoing Photo TR!
WillMontu replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Is that looping woodie model supposed to be of the Flip Flap Railway? I've seen pictures of it, and they look very similar What will KidTums' first "real" credit be? I've seen videos of people taking small children on Leap-The-Dips, so that could be an option, or you could hit Kurashiki Tivoli Park on the Japan trip. -
Most Overrated coaster?
WillMontu replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
From what I've ridden, probably G-Force at Drayton Manor. I would say Infusion, but I haven't ridden it (it was broken when we visited Southport) -
I've never smoked, and never had a desire to. I think it's disgusting and I can't be around people who do smoke (both the smoke itself, and the stink on their clothes).

Infusion POV

When it comes to SLC maintenance, the one at Wild Adventures is considered to be one of the smoothest, but it's still an SLC, and pales in comparison to the B&M inverted coasters we have down in Florida (and the fact that the whole thing shakes isn't always a sign of quality). Same goes for other places. Kumali is/was 'smooth as a baby's bum', but still not quite as smooth as Nemesis. -

Can't be a Disney rip-off, the castle's too small...never mind -
I'm not participating because: I don't drive I bike to class/work/grocery store/etc. (biking is actually quicker than taking the bus in many situations, and in Gainesville, sometimes quicker than driving, and it helps you stay in shape). I switch off my PC when I'm not using it If I need to go somewhere, I get a ride

I don't see any pics. Are you sure you uploaded them properly? -

Has anyone else here checked out www.rideinfusion.com recently. The stats are way overhyped (but that is to be expected), but the rider comments are hilarious. Better than Nemesis? Yeah right! Best ride at BPB? I doubt it. Give me Nash over an SLC any day. -
^ I think it would be difficult to top Dutch Wonderland Hopefully my camera will still be working by then! I've still got all my UK footage to edit and post. Maybe I should just submit my WDW Peoplemover POV

The Smoothest Roller Coaster
WillMontu replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wood - Intamin (Intamin woodies are smoother than most steel coasters) Steel - B&M (because that's all we have down here in Florida) -
Here's a clip from an old Discovery Channel show I taped several years ago. It was made in the mid/late 90s and documented Alton Towers building Nemesis and BPB building PMBO. John Wardley simply mentions "B and M" B&M.wmv Sound isn't great, but it's coming from the man himself

On the Discovery Channel, I've heard it pronounced with a hard G for Bolliger and a "y" for Mabillard (Spanish double L sound). I've got some old video clips I can dig up. One of these shows, however, misspells Bolliger as Bollinger.

Flamingo Land Discussion Thread
WillMontu replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thundercoaster was wild in the rain. The only problem was that the lap-bars needed a bit more padding from all that airtime. What will the world come to? A park with four Vekoma coasters and three of them are actually fun -

This isn't the first time we saw random wood at Flamingoland. -
^ Robb has a lipstick cam and he actually mounts it to trains using duct tape (yes, duct tape). Before you go out and buy a lipstick cam, however, keep in mind that Robb gets special permission to use the lipstick cam on a coaster, and has built a reputation among parks allowing him to do so.

I have a Canon A630 digital camera. It's mainly a point-and-shoot, but I like its ability to allow more advanced settings such as sensor speed, focus and aperture size. I also have a small tripod that I can take with me to parks to get some nice shots, such as motion and night pictures. If I had some extra money to burn, I would get an SLR Elura 100 for video (uses DV tapes) I also have a wide angle lens, as it's required for TPR meets. A630 digital for stills

That weird launch coaster looks like a cross between Superman (I-beams) and Hypersonic (rubber wheels) You would think they could come up with more creative names for their coasters (Boomerang, Loop-the-Loop, Suspended Looping Coaster) The SLC is an extended version of the standard model. More info at RCDB http://www.rcdb.com/id3715.htm The main difference is probably the amount of headbanging on the ride -
^ How many pictures did you take of the place John? I know you got one of the SLC, but that doesn't count Does anyone know what they're going to do with Solomon? It looks like its still standing (along with Cyclone's station, which I don't understand as they were so quick to knock the rest of the ride down). Any word on the face of the Wacky Worm? Destroying the Funhouse is just plain wrong

Most Memorable Roller Coaster Ride?
WillMontu replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Some memorable moments: ERT on Grand National at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. ERT on Balder (as with the video, "I can't get enough of you baby") My first ride on Space Mountain The night ride on BTMR during last year's Florida Meet (you have to see Erik's video) -

Gerstlauer Offers Launch Coasters
WillMontu replied to PKI Jizzman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The trains look a little bit like X-Car trains. Those restraints look unique though. They look a bit like the Intamin OTSR restraints without the shoulder bars -
Has This Ever Happened To You?

The Dueling Dragons ride ops are among the best out there. On one visit, the op at the control panel announced on the PA that one of the other operators would do a cartwheel, and he did.
