  1. ^ You will only need a converter box if you still use rabbit ears. Your cable service will continue as it has been
  2. Adventure is a fairly nice family water-park. It has a decent selection of slides, but don't expect anything extreme like a toilet bowl or a Tornado. They have a few "wedgie" slides and some more conventional slides, a decent wave pool and a good lazy river, but the theming and atmosphere are what make the park. If you go early in the operating season, the crowds are very light, and if you visit BGT too you can probably get a good price on a combination ticket.
  3. ^ I still have all my raw footage saved on an external drive, so I can still edit and such on my laptop, I just may have to start over I have a ton of unused footage, including some from Alton Towers
  4. Unfortunately my PC chose now as a time to die, so I don't know if I'll get my videos in on time. I had two really good videos in the making, but it looks like the motherboard bit the dust.
  5. Nearly all the "big" rides in Florida (Kraken, Montu, Kumba, Hulk, etc.) have separate lines for the front row. Some even have special lines for the back too, but they're usually about the same wait time as the rest of the train. For the rides at Disney, they usually have someone assigning seats, but you can ask for a front row and they will let you wait for the next train to get the front. A lot of the rides also have a single rider line, and Barry can tell you all about them. Also, whatever you do do, make sure you get on the front row of Ice
  6. Last time I saw Robb playing with Kidtums, he was imitating an Intamin first-gen freefall, and there is a lot of airtime that comes with being thrown in the air!
  7. I quite liked Floorless Sheikra. Not a new credit by any means, but adds some fun to the ride (I rode in the front row), but that's my very humble opinion. Scorpion was my first looping coaster, and also for all my brothers (even the youngest, who would ride whatever he was tall enough to get on at the time) Spaceship Earth had some good and bad changes, though they need to change that "sculpture" back to the way it was before!
  8. I'm bumping this because I think it's time to lay off on the beer and post some more pictures! Of course, you're not the only one, some others (Carl, Tomi, myself) have unfinished TR's too, but yours seems to be the most popular. Unfortunately I never got to experience the "bog of eternal stench" at the back of the Arrow Bus for myself, though when the AC was turned on, the smell went away and many of us froze
  9. I've got a great idea for a name! How about "Deja Vu"? It's what happens when you experience something that you think you've experienced before. I'm sure if they can get it to work, it would do better than it did at Six Flags as it's a lower volume park.
  10. For all those years I lived in Naples, I never got that credit at King Richards. Last time I went there was before they had the credit, though they did have the go-karts, mini-golf, arcade, and the bumper boats that I got stuck on...twice! Out of curiosity, was that Target the one on Pine Ridge Road? I worked there a few times. And yes, Publix > Everything
  11. Of course it was going to happen: What happens when the power goes out when you're hanging upside down on the X-car coaster? Maybe Magic Springs knows the answer
  12. Even more screens. Other new additions: Acceptable Wetness - A water splash ride on a slightly smaller scale than the giant water coaster Flash Flood - A launched water splash Thanatron - A launched TOGO Ultra-Twister in Valley of the Death Machines The Doneky Monorail has been upgraded to travel even faster A custom Eurofighter style ride Power Cut is the park's X-Car coaster in Valley of the Death Machines The "Toboggan of Death" modeled after the Chance Toboggan coaster Best attraction ever! The Stairway to Nowhere! Of course, realism is the goal here for the Fuji-Queue coaster Here's a Dragon Wagon in Jeff Johnson's Land of Credits The Classic Boomerang valleyed again, but there's nothing unusual about that Construction of the "ACE Buffet" dining area, consisting of every kind of food stand. If you look closely, you can even see ACEr Joe
  13. When I saw the headless birds, I thought of Jow, and the "No beer" sign reminds me of Derek's worst nightmare. I need to get on a cruise sometime, but I'm saving all my money to go to Europe this year
  14. The only reason you would need to get a converter box would be if you still use rabbit ears. If you have cable or satellite, your existing service will, continue, though your cable service may start scaling back on analog channels so that you would have to get a digital box anyway if you want to continue to get decent channels. The cable company here includes HD service with standard digital cable, so I took advantage of it and hooked up my 22" PC display to watch 720p HD broadcasts (I can't afford to buy a 1080 display at the moment).
  15. Disclaimer and overview: As you may or may not know, Dr. Kevorkian a very controversial public figure, best known for his "assisted suicides". He even created a device known as the Thanatron, (literally "Death machine"; it makes a good name for a Togo, doesn't it?) UF initially planned to have Kevorkian speak at UF earlier, but after an incident involving a John Kerry and a student being tasered (do a Google search for the 2007 catchphrase "Don't Tase Me Bro"), the event was postponed. Although best known for his advocacy for assisted suicide, much of his speech covered his political views, such as the war in Iraq. He suggested that everybody "refuse to vote" and reforms in the prison system. He did talk a bit about euthanasia (it literally translates to "peaceful death", which contradicts the ride of the same name over in Japan), but he was restricted from going into too much detail due to his parole. The visit was funded by UF's student government's "ACCENT" program, which aims to bring public figures to campus, including those that are controversial. While there have been figures such as Bill Clinton and Alberto Gonzalez, there have also been some that are not, such as Bill Nye (the Science Guy, who also makes an appearance on several Disney attractions, including Dinosaur at AK and CyberSpace Mountain at DQ) I thought the event was interesting, and while many people who attended did not agree with his views, it went relatively smoothly and I was able to snap a few pictures from the event. But at that point, the crowds really started to thin out. There were members from various departments After a ten minute intermission, Kevorkian left and there was a panel discussion among several UF faculty members The interviewer and the doctor ended up sharing a single mike We can't hear you! Get closer to the mike! There was a lot of applause (and the occasional "booing") during the show when Kevorkian expressed his opinions on politics, religion, and euthanasia. Can it get much better than that? At this point was a Q&A session. People sent questions by e-mail before the event A wider view of the action. If you look closely you can see his limo parked in the back I'm sure someone can think of a good caption for this The man himself gets behind the podium I believe the man on the right is Kevorkian's lawyer. Important looking guy gets on stage The program Finally inside, with tunes from Lynyrd Skynyrd playing overhead. They had handheld metal detectors, so we couldn't bring our weapons. I was able to take my camera in, since I'm too poor to buy a proper SLR The line moved slowly to begin with, but started to speed up This one is probably more disturbing Most of them had simple "Death is not welcome here" signs They had set up a "protest zone" The event was held in the "O'dome", known as being the home of the UF basketball team (though I'm not counting on another national championship this year) A lot of news networks were there, including some from Jacksonville The line stretches as far as I could see. Maybe I should have gotten a Q-bot But I was the only one with the awesomeness known as the TPR hoodie! Looking back towards the arena. The weather was a bit chilly, so many people bundled up. All I have to do is find the end of the line Ever since meeting with TPR back in March 2006, I haven't lost a single ticket. This one is no exception. The event was free, though UF students got first dibs at tickets This was one of the lines just to get in, partly due to the increased security and popularity of the event
  16. Here are some ideas: Here are some of the Sims I created some time ago (there's a thread all about it buried in the Random forum somewhere) The special "Go Gators" Elissa edition McDonalds playset (we need to make this look more like a toy) Collect them all!
  17. At Wild Adventures - The mouse is one of the lowest capacity rides there (aside from some of the kiddies), so try and get that in early. The kiddie SLC usually has a reasonable wait too. You know there's something wrong with a park when the best ride there is a Boomerang. It's one of the newer ones that doesn't have the valley platform, yet it's actually somewhat smooth. Same goes for the SLC. At SFOG - If you get a Q-bot, hit the Mine Train first if you need the credit, as it doesn't use them and has a low capacity (it has the old Arrow trains that require the op to manually lock and unlock the restraints.) I've heard that Mindbender is also a little difficult to get running when there's rain, so try and knock that credit out too if you don't have it (but since it's a Schwarzkopf, you may want to ride anyway) If you pass through Gainesville, you may even catch a glimpse of Erik's famous van. I sometimes see it myself on the way to work.
  18. Derek action figure - Comes with mugs of beer as accessories. Wes action figure - Push the little button and it insults you. Comes with Gary Sinise space helmet. Barry action figure - Comes complete with video camera (sorry, not removable) and FCC T-shirt! Comes as a bonus with the "Lady Gay Riverboat" playset Ryan King action figure - Now with first pounding action (duuuude!) and Heinz ketchup shirt. Comes with Vekoma Death Box accessory and cell phone for texting. Jahan - Comes with Arrow coaster car and coathanger. Other accessories: Cedar Fair trash cans (pack of 20) Buffet table for the hardcore enthusiast Erik's van Ryan's De Lorean Playsets: McDonalds Dragon Wagon Lady Gay Riverboat Wisconsin State Fair
  19. A few more additions: Some peeps are brave enough to take on the Jackhammer woodie Isn't it supposed to do that? This is a Cyclone clone. I took the Psyclone track included with the game, fixed it up, gave it new trains, and it has more airtime than most of the park's other rides. As for the message in the status bar... Do the peeps love Deja Vu? It has a pool, boat dock, monorail station, and a "coaster slide". The Donkey Clubhouse is one of the newest additions, construction has recently completed
  20. How about this? Based on a popular style of theming, this is a very common card
  21. Even more screens. The park is making steady progress The "Chocolate Logs" log flume. Also shown is the Top Spin with water jets, the "Wetness" giant water coaster, and Aquatrax Aquatrax coaster. Layout look familiar? A new mega-woodie. Two lifts, but still needs a name A giant "non-inverted" Boomerang. Also shown is the entrance to Seedy Fair. The Kitty Hawk coaster in the Seedy Fair themed area. The green coaster in the foreground is Goshawk.
  22. I submitted several really bad videos in 2006. Hopefully 2008 will be better for me, as this time I have a lot more footage to work with and my skills have improved somewhat. I've been looking over a lot of my old footage and noticed how bad it was back then.
  23. More screens "Wrath of the Title Fairy" is the park's new B&M style inverted coaster In keeping with the Cedar Fair naming system, this ride is now known as "Garage". The other two rides in this area are Kitty Hawk and Goshawk. An overview of the park so far
  24. I never shot any video footage from SSE myself, as I was shooting the pictures instead. I think Erik did shoot a little bit of footage though.
  25. I wouldn't count on it. His camera battery was running very low and had to use his still camera to shoot some footage (some of the castle lighting scene was shot using my still camera.) Of course if Erik does have enough footage to assemble something, there wouldn't be any problem with that, especially that particular SSE scene!
