RCT2: TPR Theme Park
WillMontu replied to WillMontu's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Just a quick update: I haven't played RCT2 much lately but I have added the "Phallus" rocket coaster, that rockets peeps up a 550ft tower. I need more ideas for the Florida themed section. I'm trying to model it loosely on Tomorrowland at WDW (with the PeopleMover) -

The final update for this TR I'd like to make my future TR's better, as I've been dissatisfied with the outcome of many of my recent TR's. What's good about my TR's? What's bad? Are people just losing interest? I have decided against posting a KI update because nobody appears to be interested and it's not worth the hassle. For the three people who do want KI pics, I have uploaded some of them here I'm going to finish here. And it's back to Kings Island Don't be late for the bus! They took a cue from Holiday World (or vice versa) Smokey Fun, but they didn't snap The guy on the left texting is the ride op. And of course, the Flyers Kiddie Whip Kiddie Turtle There's a few other rides to check out More TPR peeps, including Jow A few familiar faces in this train A few more shots of Tornado Some of the overgrowth on Teddy Bear -
Very short Florida trip - Suggestions to my plan of attack
WillMontu replied to NegativeGLover's topic in Ask Alvey
When heading from Marco to Tampa, be sure to swing by King Richards in Naples. It's on Airport Road, just north of Pine Ridge Road. There's not much there, but there's a Dragon Wagon. At Universal and IOA, in terms of credits, the lowest capacity rides are the Flyers at IOA and Woody Woodpecker at USF. Try and hit IOA right at opening. They will open the front half of the park at this time, so you can get a few rides in on Spiderman and Hulk if you want. When they open the back of the park, head straight to Camp Jurassic and get on the Flyers. After half an hour, the park will enforce the "kids required" rule, and the line will get very long due to the ride's low capacity. Dragons usually doesn't have much of a line. Be sure to ride the front of Ice. Flying Unicorn generally doesn't usually have a long line, as it can run two trains. If you're sad and pathetic and count powered coasters, make sure you hit the Seuss Trolley Ride Woody Woodpecker is a lower capacity Roller Skater. Try to ride early in the day if it's busy. To get on Mummy, use the single rider line, as it is [usually] quite effective. Same goes for MIB. Simpsons will probably have a long line due to the fact that it's new, but it moves quickly and provides plenty of entertainment. If the parks are very busy and you have some extra cash, consider getting an Express pass -

Stricker's Grove During the visit to Kings Island, there was an optional side trip to Stricker's Grove. Considering the number of credits and the reputation at Kings Island, the initial assumption that those who went to Stricker's had to miss out on some of the credits at Kings Island. Surprisingly, Kings Island wasn't too crowded, and most of the group got the credits in before leaving for Stricker's. This will be the last "major" update to this TR. The station More will be on the way... The trains are different from other PTC trains, as the right side of the trains does not have openings. The Teddy Bear is a "kiddie woodie", built from the blueprints for the original Teddy Bear at Coney Island in Cincinnati The ride had some nice airtime in the back seat And here's the ride op "riding" the train as it dispatches. It appears that a crime was committed in the eighth row The station for Tornado. Note the lack of air gates Jow is ready to fly Random stuff under the station This is probably the longest line this ride has seen in a very long time Spinning ride of death? It does have two credits, both built by Stricker himself from blueprints of defunct rides The park is not very big At this park, "security" consists of a single state trooper ensuring that nobody takes the cash box. Ryan, it says "GMC", not "DMC", and it's not likely that it would reach 88 miles (with or without a flux capacitor) In other news, Ryan did get his Delorean to run, but the flux capacitor is still broken. It's usually only open for two days a year, for 4th of July and for "Family Days" During the rest of the year, it is rented out for private parties It's sort of out in the middle of nowhere, like a few other parks ...and of course, Sideboob! On the Arrow Bus, we had a nice view of corn... This could be a very difficult choice for Elissa. McDonalds or El Toro? It's not a good idea to leave the baby at Kings Island. -

^ I have enhanced a lot of the images using Picasa The last Kennywood update I'm still looking for ways to make my TR's better. I find it discouraging to post a huge update, have one person (usually FLIPDUDE) respond (if even that), getting 50 or so hits, and the topic getting buried shortly after With nearly 2000 pictures in all, it's not easy to post everything and think of decent captions. I will be doing Europe this year and I do plan to take a large number of photos, but I don't plan to do a TR in the same way that I've done in the past, as it just doesn't seem to get appreciation. I may just upload everything to another site (such as Picasa) and just post a handful of pictures I will probably post Stricker's Grove, but the Kings Island segment is currently in the intensive care unit after riding Son of Beast one too many times. And I have to post a picture of the PeopleMover because it's awesome! Disney even went as far as printing FastPasses with Bryan's screen name on it ...with pictures of Bryan! I've noticed that I'm not getting very many hits, and it seems to be the same 2-3 people who ever reply to my posts. As a result, I'm going to take this TR in a new direction Unfortunately, he wasn't able to enjoy Kings Island Here's to Ron Toomer and Spidey Arrow Bus gains a member! Self explanatory Unfortunately, after lunch, we had to get going back to the buses Robb getting interviewed for KennyTV Lunch, for the ACEr in everyone The PR lady who was with us for much of the visit. Sorry, but I forgot her name. We had a nice view of Jackrabbit "Wood" But don't let Wes get a hold of it! The famous Kennywood Arrow Time for lunch -

Islands of Adventure Park Management - Use the single rider lines if they have them. They are especially effective for Spiderman, Dr. Doom, and Incredible Hulk. Sometimes they're available, but not actively advertised. - The best time to try and ride Ptyranadon Flyers is right after park opening. During the first 30 minutes (or so), the park will relax its "kids needed" policy -Dueling Dragons has a "re-ride" entrance. Sometimes it is closed off, but others times it's not, resulting in bypassing the long queue. -IOA does not allow loose articles on rides, but cargo pockets are usually okay. The park does provide free lockers for limited time intervals. - The park does sell "Express Passes" to allow bypassing the lines on busy days. Best Time to Go to the Park Food Recommendations - Mythos - A sit-down restaurant. It's been nominated the top theme park restaurant, but that's questionable. Ride Recommendations - Dueling Dragons - Dueling B&M inverteds. Be sure to ride the front seat on Ice - Flying Unicorn - One of the greatest Roller Skaters ever - Incredible Hulk - Launched B&M multilooper - Spiderman - One of the best simulator/dark rides around - Dr. Doom's freefall - A pair of S&S Space Shot towers - Jurassic Park River Adventure - A themed boat ride with a large drop - Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls - A well themed flume ride. The park recently added lapbars to the ride, greatly reducing capacity, so lines can be long, especially on hot days - Popeye and Bluto's Barges - A well themed rapids ride with a "car wash" section - Cat in the Hat - A good dark ride, with some spinning -

There are not going to be many "people shots" in this update, but there's only one more Kennywood update after this and then I can start on Stricker's High resolution versions are available on request To be continued....maybe No, Robb, you can't "go" in front of a moving coaster train! There's where we'll be having lunch They have a nice collection of hats. The Beatles one I'd go for, but I'm not so sure about the Steelers one. The signature double dip One wrong step and Robb could fall down the ravine This picture needs a caption. Laughing Sal wants you Behind the scenes on Jackrabbit Going into areas where no coaster enthusiast has gone before? This means walking across the train Going behind the scenes on Phantom Never before seen shot of Thunderbolt? Nerd shot T-Bolt's last drop I joined Robb and a few others on a photo walk-back opportunity around several of the coasters. -

Good job on the update. Looks like Homer (and even Jahan) will get a girl before I ever do though. I guess it's now time to wrap up my Photo TR, including posting a rather disturbing picture of Wes -
Roller Coaster Music
WillMontu replied to spacemtfan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Aerosmith comes to mind after RnRC at DHS/MGM Other thoughts: Living on a Prayor by Bon Jovi (Robb uses it for his Holiday World video) Love Roller Coaster (Red Hot Chili Peppers cover version) Twist and Shout by The Beatles Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins (Top Gun sound track) Walk of Life by Dire Straits (the second part at least) Running Down a Dream by Tom Petty Greased Lightning by John Travolta Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin -
Best and Worst Log Flumes
WillMontu replied to gldude's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best - Splash Mountain. I also enjoyed Dudley Do-Right at IOA, but I haven't ridden since they added the lap-bars Worst - Probably Dive to Atlantis at Olympus. Poorly themed, and doesn't do much...unless concrete is your thing -

More Kennywood. I'm not feeling creative today in the captions area. If I do another update, it will contain the walkback photos More to come....? This ride has lap bars, but they are fixed, so riders have to slide under them. There are also seat belts Here's Ryan, armed with the dangerous top-of-the-height-checker-pole A train leaving the station After the lift is the signature double-dip The first drop is also down a ravine Like the Thunderbolt, the lift is in the middle of the ride And like everything else at Kennywood, it has history There's still another credit to get The Old Mill, now Garfield's Nightmare. I didn't get to experience this, though I probably should have On many log flumes, the people in front get the wettest Pedal Boats The SkyCoaster The Kangaroo was another ride that I missed out on. Maybe next time More historical stuff Unlike the Disk-o at Olympus, this one actually works More unusual theming The University of Florida is in Gainesville. The Gator Nation is everywhere (even at Kings Island, which is in the heart of Buckeye country) Theming on the rapids There's also a rapids ride I didn't get a chance to do these either. They look like a kiddie ride from pictures, but they speed along that track We didn't have enough time to do the Gold Rusher. Later that day we found out that it would be closing This is a credit under the Jeff Johnson system We didn't quite have enough for a complete takeover of the ride There's very few of these still operating, and many of them are the "kiddie" variant. Another historical ride. Yes, even Blackpool Pleasure Beach removed theirs -
I hope you mean Python. Scorpion is the Schwarzkopf, Python is the Arrow My current list: BGA- Python Southport Pleasureland (UK)- Wacky Worm Cyclone King Solomon's Mines Alton Towers- Black Hole Geauga Lake- Big Dipper Villain Dominator (relocated) Thunderhawk (relocated) Beaver Creek Mine Ride (probably relocated) Double Loop Boomerang (probably relocated) SFGAm- Deja Vu (relocated) SFOG- Deja Vu (probably relocated) Riverview (WI Dells)- Galaxi (?) I did have a few more pictures from this trip, but I guess it's better late than never. We finished the day at the Magic Kingdom to ride a few rides And here is Monorail Orange...through Monorail Blue! But being Florida Gators, there's something about Orange and Blue I would have thought that they would change the MGM Studios icon to that obnoxious hat when they renamed the park. Looks like they didn't Monorail Black is Erik's favorite Time for more Monorail action! This scene may change within a year or two when SM goes down for a major rehab It's just like Top Thrill Dragster I had Erik on my tail the whole time I had never done the Indy Speedway, but having ridden Autopia at Disneyland, it doesn't do as much As for train rides... This one even more so I took this shot from a moving train, hence the nice motion blur effect There's some hot coupler action on the WDW train ride A construction fence in Mickey's Toontown. What could it be? I think it's actually just a rehab of an attraction that's already there The first ride on visiting the Magic Kingdom was, of course, the PeopleMover [insert castle joke here] The new Contemporary wing is going up fast Did anyone notice that they removed those "islands" from the middle of each compartment? I think they used to have fold-out seats, but they also served as something to lean on There appears to be something wrong here I will probably bring this very pack of Tums to Europe this year and take pictures of it in various locations This update is going to contain a lot of hot Monorail on Monorail action -

Kennywood continued The next update (if and when I get around to it) is going to consist of photos from the behind-the-scenes walkback of T-Bolt, Phantom, and Jackrabbit. After that, I'll post some pictures from lunch and then skip ahead to Stricker's Grove, and possibly a brief King's Island section The mental age of everyone on this train is probably a new low for Kennywood. To be continued.....? Big guy, little ride Almost... Is he going to fit? The cars are not very big You do need to watch your head though And the "No Maximum Height Restriction" rule makes Casey very happy Fortunately, having a kid to ride with is optional. Any credit whores here? Little Phantom was modeled after the Steel Phantom. When Steel Phantom became Phantom's Revenge, the ride received a new color scheme to match the new Phantom It's a small kiddie coaster We have more credits to get Still looking good after all these years Not many of these left While chains like Cedar Fair try to remove all their historical landmarks, Kennywood tries to retain them The Kennywood Arrows again A "patriotic" trash can The Cedar Fair trash cans are jealous There's more stuff around to check out, such as these creepy looking trash cans -
Great Park Operations
WillMontu replied to denning's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Being in Florida, I would have to go with WDW. Everyone, from the operators of the parking lot trams ("Unattended children will be donated to 'its a small world'") to the Jungle Cruise skippers ("Could it be treasure? No, it's Disney...It's a gift shop"), and even the trash cans ("Theme Park Review? Are you doing a review on me? Do I get the thumbs up? Yay!"), seems to enjoy their jobs Other notable operations: Apollo at Euroburg as Chuck stated above. I was there that same day SFKK during the Midwest trip (they couldn't get one of their woodies going, so they opened up Greased Lightning and the SLC for ERT) SFMM during WCB Dueling Dragons at IOA (sometimes) -
It's not worth a seven hour drive, but it's a nice credit stop on the way to/from Central Florida Honestly, when I went in 2006, the best coaster was probably the Boomerang or the Roller Skater (Cheetah was closed). As for the best attractions, consider the Double Shot and the Tiger Show. I would say the Swings too, but I believe they removed them.

I'm still single, never dated, never kissed. Someday I might want to have a girlfriend, but I don't know if that day will ever come. If someone is trying to flirt with me (I've been told that girls have), I don't tend to notice, as I'm not good at reading facial and nonverbal expressions.

So this thread isn't quite dead yet. I can fix that: Is that the "stand-up" version of Good Tower? I may post a few shots from MK too, including some hot Monorail action. As well as experience a boiler room that looks like, well, a boiler room. We then take a few rides on RnRC, Sad and Pathetic style Many of us will be seeing this castle in a few weeks A poster showing the Mark IV monorail and the WEDway PeopleMover The history exhibit next to TSM has models and a film about Walt Disney. Insert tiny castle joke here I guess they end up at Cafe Risque (which by the way, I have never been to) Another look at the ride vehicle The loading station Of the Dueling Johnsons, who scored higher? One of the mini-games. This is just decoration. It's not in 3D or anything like that either As said several times, it's similar to Pirates at DQ Ready to ride The "Home Edition". All you need is an office chair and a Wii The ride vehicles are a little bit like the vehicles on the Intamin Half-pipe rides This is where the queue joins the single rider line I'm curious to how this works, as there some interactivity, but also some pre-recorded phrases. Is there a CM sitting at a control panel somewhere, or does it use voice recognition? The Mr. Potato Head animatronic This reel shows some attractions that are long gone, such as the PeopleMover The first portion of the queue We went over to DHS/MGM to check out Toy Story Mania's preview. There are still construction walls up around the area -
Horrible Park Operations
WillMontu replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SFA - One of my worst park experiences ever. At least it had a No Smoking policy. We got in line for JJ and Erik was the only one who got to ride. After that, the ride broke down (though it wasn't the only coaster down on opening day, as the Invertigo was also closed). They gave us exit passes to ride another ride so we headed for Superman. Running one train, dispatches were every five minutes or so, and they were not filling it with Flash Pass people anyway. At least we got to see "BT Wing" run three trains in 45 minutes (and two of them even had people in them) In general, much of the park was run down. Trash cans were overflowing, there were beer bottles in a station for one of the rides, and the queue for annual passes was extremely long with all the self-service computers down. Didn't they have all winter to fix up all these problems? Olympus was also fairly bad, but not as bad as the SFA experience. All the coasters run only one train because that's all they have (why they don't build them with more beats me). Of course, all the coasters had at least one row roped off, and the only rule that the park seemed to enforce was the "no adults on the kiddie coaster". To add to that, there were people smoking everywhere, since the park does not have a No Smoking rule. -
DID YOU KNOW?
WillMontu replied to coasterfreak81's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The Lime and Coral trains can be distinguished from Green and Pink by the white "deltas" on the colored stripe There are seven generations of US Disney Monorails Marks I, II, and III all operated at Disneyland. They had the signature "bubble" that the driver would sit in Mark IV's operated at WDW until the 80's. When the VI's rolled in, Disney sold many of them to the Las Vegas Monorail. Two operated in Vegas for a few years, until the new expansion opened. They originally had five cars in each train, but later lengthened to six Ex-Disney Mark IV trains in Vegas. Photo from The Monorail Society Mark V's currently operate at Disneyland, but are being phased out to be converted to Mark VII's Mark VI's make up the current WDW fleet. They are different from the Mark IV's in that they have standing room and double doors Mark VII's are being rolled out at Disneyland with a retro color scheme The Tokyo monorails are a completely different system and are built to Japanese standards. -
TPR Photoshop Contest Ideas
WillMontu replied to Meteornotes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Some ideas: Rides on the Moon! Home versions of popular rides (after seeing Erik's video, though this may make a better video contest) Ride ideas that didn't make the cut Cedar Fair (in general, like we did with Six Flags)
