Carowinds Discussion Thread
rcjp replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Well, when it comes to straight drops not really but I haven't experience a pre-dropless swooping drop like banshee's so I can't talk about that. It's interesting how most of the GP thinks that the pre drops are there to trick you but I guess they really do that for most people. I don't think a structure like fury 325's lift would look good with a pre drop though. Being a B&M fan, the thing that upsets me the most is (take a guess) how my favourite coasters they made are all fairly old given the age of the company, but I guess there are already enough discussions about that. -

^I also love the B&M roar (a lot). I think it really adds to the experience. I think of it when I get near dragon khan and shambhala. DK is properly loud and shambhala, despite being much taller and faster, is much much quieter (because of sand). I'd really like to know how it would sound if the track was hollow. I've also wondered if there is something different about the way B&M makes their track now that makes their newer rides quieter. Maybe coasters also get louder with age. Either that or all new B&Ms built recently have some sand in their tracks and supports. -

^Nowadays most (or many) parks seem to go for the more "family friendly" sand in the track (even if it isn't to make it completely quiet) and not that many new B&Ms are "purely" loud. In fact, which of the newer B&Ms have a proper roar? -

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
rcjp replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^What you would actually say (just to shock them ) is: "Actually, there are many coasters that go upside down that have lap bars only." -
^That actually happened to me a few weeks ago. I really don't remember how but I got pocked in the eye by some random tree branch. I was lucky as it was fairly soft (for a tree branch) and it hit me not in the center of the eye but more to the side. Still, it was pretty nasty

^Of course. Even if you reminded him that there have been thousands of coaster operating around the world for decades it wouldn't matter. -

It should pick up some speed before the drop then -
This! My head is above the restraint and I've never had a bad experience on Arrow loopers. Their track doesn't really give the rattling sensation, the head banging is mostly due to their track's banking axis. If braced properly, Arrow loopers are very enjoyable. The ones I've ridden are definitely not "shaky" but suffer from poor transitions instead. Plus I don't know if tall people have this problem but even though I'm not very tall (just over 5'9'') I have to slouch for some of those restrains to close properly which becomes uncomfortable after a while.

^That's true. It makes sense that they want to update their product but, you know, if it ain't broke don't fix it and if they really wanted to do something about the restraints they could think about starting to use lap bars on their looping rides as nowadays most big manufacturers at least offer that option. -

^These smaller dive machine trains are not that wide but yes, I imagine how wide the ones which seat 10 across would have to be. -

Nope. It's not modern art because those supports do have a purpose -

Those low turns should be pretty fast! The element I'm looking forward to the most, however, is the funky 91 degrees turnaround. -

I would say that some insects (especially spiders) are my only mild phobias. It's always interesting when I spot a spider with my grandfather next to me as I immediately want to kill it but he doesn't (and doesn't when I do it at all).

^The new ones may avoid headbanging but then I've only ridden two B&Ms (both standups) that actually made my head hit the restraint. -

Cool immelmann! The angle of the pullout does make it look funky.
