The B&M Rattle Directory

^The thing is: do all new B&Ms really have a rattle? And secondly I don't think there is a way to predict such thing. -

Keep in mind I have yet to ride any B&M (I know I know I'm going to this summer), but I feel that this juxtaposition is why this thread exists: the rides have a reputation for being smooth, but somewhere along the line have developed this issue which seems to ruin that smoothness for some people. It's an interesting issue and I can see why it irks some people; it's like when you're in the car and something suddenly starts rattling, and now you can't concentrate on anything except that and how to get it to stop. I can see why this would be annoying on a coaster that you're trying to enjoy. Still though b&ms are still great and this is not an issue for me. But I don't like when people say they are 100 % smooth cause that's just not true Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk I can assume you've ridden raptor and (at least everytime I rode it) it was 100% smooth. ^I agree that B&M's old inverts are very smooth. The only one I have ridden with a very small (millennium force like) rattle was talon. I'm amazed how a ride like batman at great adventure (which was 20 years last time I rode it) was so smooth. 200% smooth and still very intense. I guess that it's rides like these that make people surprised when some new B&Ms have rattles. -

Haha that's what I thought. It honestly doesn't look that hard given the shape of the track (and if you're in reasonable shape) -

Why is there any "rattle directory," period? Folks in this hobby sure get interested in cataloging odd stuff, but so be it. "Rattle me this", indeed. haha Well, as many people say B&Ms are perfect in every way, a rattle, or any vibration for that matter, is worthy of the front page of the Times. In comparison, a thread isn't so bad, as funny as it may be. True haha. Out of the ones I've ridden I'd say Mantis and green lantern really were rough (GL quite less than mantis but still not really a rattle). Superman at parque Warner Madrid had a relatively small (not uncomfortable) but noticeable rattle in the back on my last visit in 2014. Gatekeeper had a very nasty rattle closer to the back on the outside seats (in 2013) but, on the other hand, I had no problem whatsoever with hydra and I consider shambhala one of the smoothest coasters I've been on. -

I did find it a bit surprising how the only manufacturer that has a whole thread dedicated to the rattle of their coasters (at least that I know of) is arguably the one which makes, overall, the smoothest rides. I suppose it has to do with the fact that most old B&Ms (except standups) were/still are very smooth and how, recently, a few of their new coasters have a certain rattle which is a bit odd. -

Well except for TTD having a launch that is super smooth, where as KK's launch feels like you are riding a giant vibrator down the track. Well I guess it's a matter of opinion but I find KK's launch more forceful and if you're riding in the front (which is the only place really worth riding on these coasters) it's not really rough -
When does an element become an inversion?
rcjp replied to Marney's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Of course it's not very important but if we only considered exactly 180 degrees upside down there would be a lot of inversions which wouldn't count such as all inclined loops and almost all immelmanns, cobra rolls and dive loops. -

Storm Runner is a great ride! It might be quite short but it packs a lot (^that unexpected pop of air is great), the inversions are fun and I also like that funky bit before the brakes. -
What's your closest coaster?
rcjp replied to FishyFish's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No less than 280 miles to Isla Mágica in Seville (where I can find a lovely SLC). A bit more to Madrid..... -

I'd say: 1 - Storm Runner 2 - Kingda Ka 3 - TTD 4 - Furius Baco (still great, in my opinion. Just not as good as the others) -

When does an element become an inversion?
rcjp replied to Marney's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How not? The body is rotated 180 degrees relative to it's position. You were facing down, then you were facing up. Inversion. Actually your feat never go above your head. Flying coasters are special as a vertical drop (if any of those had one) would make you go fully upside down unlike on a normal coaster. -

That's probably the best option for a "definition" of inversion, I'd say. -

Do You Bother With Water Parks?
rcjp replied to Golddisk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I do quite like water parks and if I go with my friends or family to a place that happens to have one nearby I'll definitely go there. The thing is if I visit an amusement park which has one I won't really bother unless I have plenty of extra time and money to spend (or the "dry" part is crap) as I'll always prefer a good coaster or flat. Unless it is a park I get to visit pretty often I feel like I'm missing too much if I spend some time doing water rides rather than the rest. For example, I went a full day to Dorney park (which a lot of people visit for the water park) in the summer and not for a second did I consider "losing" an extra ride on talon, hydra,.... to have a go on a water slide. I know many wouldn't do this but I honestly don't regret it. -

It definitely has some roar but I'm not very confident yet as, for some reason, there have been quite a few new B&Ms with great roar during the first tests and then they don't seem to be quite as loud when they open. Or maybe it's just me -
