The Revolution--back in the day
ebl replied to coasterboy76's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ I'm sure you're right, Joey. One brake, however, that I know wasn't there (or wasn't used) was the one right out of the tunnel. The airtime just as you went through the center of the loop and into that dip/turn just before the spiral was major ejector air---especially in the back seat. Eric -

Revolution's track could use a paint job. If they do repaint it, I hope they keep it white. I just can't see it any other color. Eric -

^ ACE thinks so, too. One of their plaques noting Revolution as a piece of coaster history can be found on the right side of the pathway leading to the bottom of the ramp up into the station. Eric -
The Revolution--back in the day

I rode the Revolution within two months of its opening. And, yes, it was quite the ride. Revolution was my favorite steel coaster for many, many years. Back then, they operated up to five trains. Just as one pulled out, another rolled in right behind it. You never really stood in line, you just walked very slowly, as the line moved that quickly. The trains had no headrests the first season (and maybe the second---I'm not sure when they added them). As the aerial view shows, there was nothing out by the first drop. At night, you felt like you were out in the middle of nowhere, and man was it dark! It was sort of like how Jet Stream was when it opened in 1972 (yes, I was there, too). It's amazing to see how much the entire park has grown since then. Even now with the awful OTSRs, Revolution is a great ride. The layout is excellent, and, in my opinion, the designers were very clever in putting the signature feature of the ride---the loop---in the middle of the ride instead of right at the bottom of the first drop. Having three major drops, then a long, sloping track leading into the loop builds riders' anticipation and adds to the thrill. The loop itself with its lattice support structure is a thing of beauty---and a far cry from today's plain, box beam structures. It does have the "teardrop" shape, but is a bit more "round" than more recent loops, and it does pack the G forces! Unfortunately, this is a factor in why our Revolution ended up with OTSRs while other similar rides (SFoT's Shock Wave and SFoG's Mindbender) didn't. In the years since its opening, several brake sections have been added, thus reducing wear and tear on the track, as well as some of the speed and excitement of the ride. All in all, I guess you could say that I liked the Revolution when it opened. Eric -

Did you see where I put my shirt? :? Eric

No. I fall asleep fairly easily and sleep like I'm dead. Have you ever eaten pizza while wearing a blue shirt?

Gnats. They come at you and keep coming back. That's one of the reasons I don't enjoy camping. Seems like everywhere we go, so do the gnats! Eric

Don't even consider public transportation. Yeah, we have buses and trains in L.A., but they're not convenient for where you're going. Eric
-
Give yourself a lot of time to drive between parks. During the week, you'll be driving the L.A. freeways during rush hour, which is pretty much all day. That's about the only tip I have for you. Eric

Our insurance is about $120 a month for two cars. Not too bad for SoCal. Today's rant/peeve is having some stupid supermarket music stuck in my head. That's what I get for going to Vons on my lunch hour. Eric

I would say, majorly crowded, even though it is the first shopping day of the holiday season. Eric

As I cruise through TPR, I'm eating the best spaghetti I've ever had---homemade right here in our kitchen. Eric

"At the next TPR party - an entire sheet cake with "EBL" written in frosting all over it!" Yeah, and I'll eat as much as I can, have a seizure, then sue the hell out of you! I ought to get Dan in on this, too! Eric -
Montezooma's Revenge Video
ebl replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
"Yeah SFKK trims the hell out of it sadly" That's not the problem. There are two models of Schwarzkopf shuttles. The original one operated with a falling weight that pulled the train out of the station. That's the big tube under the front spike of the ride, and SFKK's ride has that, as it was once Marriott's/Six Flags Great America's ride and was one of the first. (PGA's Tidal Wave/Greased Lightning was the first generation model, too.) The track behind the station doesn't go out as far, so the the trains are trimmed before going up the back spike. The newer model is like the now-former SFAW's and Montezooma's Revenge. Instead of the falling weight, there's a huge flywheel under the track. When the button is pushed to start the ride, a clutch mechanism grabs the cable, launching the train. The track on the return trip goes farther back behind the station, so, with a bit more room, trains aren't trimmed going up the back. Hope that explains things. Eric -

I'm supposed to go because, being diabetic, I'm considered high risk for getting the flu. To date, I've never had a shot and have yet to get the flu. Therefore, if a = b, and a = c, then b = I'm not getting a shot. Eric "A little twisted in the math department" L.

"Anyone who enters a theme park with a pre-existing medical condition and isn't willing to choose carefully what he/she rides as a result of that condition is doing so at their own risk, and it always pisses me off when you hear a family or the patron themselves is suing a park for what happened to them." Excellent point, Shari. People like that should be slapped upside the head for being so stupid. "And next in the news, people with diabetes shouldn't eat an entire sheet cake with frosting in one sitting." You've just taken the fun out of my life. Eric -
I like a good ol' vertical loop myself. But I also like B&M's zero-G rolls and heartline spins, too. Least favorite is a cobra roll. Those do nothing for me. Eric

By the time I got to DCA for my first visit, Superstar Limo was already gone. But from I've seen (online videos), I didn't miss much. Eric

They already have Habitrails for kids---just go to any McDonald's with a Play Place. Of course, being that McDonald's is Elissa-friendly, she'd already be there! Eric
