  1. Today at Carl's Jr., some guy was sitting right in the center of the restaurant talking SPORTS! about as loud as he could. Do some people just not get it? Not everyone within earshot cares about what you want to talk about. The people he was apparently talking to didn't have much to say...unfortunately they had to listen, though---along with everyone else. Eric
  2. This discussion reminded me of something from back in the late '90s...one time Diana and I were walking past Flashback and I asked her if she wanted to ride it. Without even a moment to think about it---and not even missing a beat---she just said, "Nope." Just when I thought that kids don't listen to their parents, apparently she had been listening to me talking about it... Eric
  3. While it was good for Six Flags to explore other properties, they'll always be known for the Looney Tunes characters. I hope they don't get rid of those anytime soon. Eric
  4. ^ My only problem with Flashback was with its restraints. They were identical to the OTSRs on Revolution, which slam-bang-smash your head every time there was even a little bump or jolt on the track. I know they were that way because of the tight clearances, but I think they could have been designed better. Eric
  5. Personally, I've always liked the standup concept and am glad to see another one being built. Eric
  6. ^^ It's not a coaster, and I don't think it'll be anything like Test Track's layout. No doubt I'm in the minority, but I liked the giant CALIFORNIA letters, and am sorry to see them go. They made for a nice photo spot and I liked how their colors/patterns were changed for the various holidays and special events. I do agree that it would have been better to completely shut down DCA for at least a few months to speed things along. Better to get stuff done than to have guests walk through a seemingly never ending construction zone. Eric
  7. We're not allowed to use any credit cards for the next five years (long story), so with us, it's cash/check/debit. Eric
  8. Because if you're holding a gun, then someone else has to clean up after you're done pontificating. Why did Mars stop making M&Ms Premiums?
  9. If you drove something that looked like a giant yellow Twinkie, you'd be mad, too... Why don't tires come in any other colors besides black?
  10. ^ I suppose I could drive a tram for $8/hour. Of course, any job at SFMM would require a 40-mile drive each way for me. Eric
  11. Because it's so much more MANLY to carry a BIG, GIANT cup of soda than a little, piddly one. Why is it "pink for girls" and "blue for boys" instead of the other way around?
  12. With all the walking and climbing involved, $10.50/hour sounds kind of low. However, with me looking for work right now, I'd think about it if nothing else pans out. And I guess it'd be fun to get to walk coaster track. Eric
  13. ^ Hybrid rodent, huh? If you get one, name it "Prius." I'll stick to the rodent we have, our pure-bred, non-hybrid chinchilla, Chimichanga. Eric
  14. ^^ On that note, it'd be nice to see Hurricane Harbor get a Master Blaster of some sort. That park is hurting for something really good. The old Flashback site would be a nice little chunk of land to give to HH. ErIc
  15. ^ Read this. Then turn up your speakers, go here, and press the red button. Eric
  16. Having ridden 20 of the 21 coasters SFMM has ever had to date (never rode Percy in any of its forms), I have to admit that it's been a lot of fun and I've enjoyed having such a collection within an hour of home. But enough with the inversions already. We need a good, mile-long or more, OTSR-less airtime coaster. Let's hope current management will deliver. Eric
  17. Lego model maker...how cool of a job would that be? This looks like great stuff. It's been nearly ten years since I was there. Time to go again. Eric
  18. Here in the U.S., we're so busy trying not to offend anyone, so our shows are dumbed down. Other countries "get it." They're able to laugh at themselves and encourage others to do the same. When we watch TV at the in-laws, it's often the Japanese language stuff---much of it from Japan. And it's far more entertaining than the crap we have here. Just my two yen... Eric
  19. ^^ Condor was actually open in late Fall 1988. I remember it opened about six months after Ninja. But Condor was only at SFMM for about a year at the most. During its all-too-brief stay, I only got to ride it once. Eric
  20. "Friday" was Bob's Harley... Why is earwax yellow?
  21. ^ I rode it in May 1976 just after it opened. What a pop of air you got in the back seat as you took the dip through the center of the loop just before the final spiral! Of course, that was before they put that trim brake just as you leave the tunnel. Eric
  22. ^ When your education gives you a jump on the competition for a job, and a decent salary to boot, what you spent on textbooks and your education will be more than repaid many times over. Just for a change of scenery, I went to the library to use their computers to continue my job search and do important things like surf the Web. Is it just me, or have people become clueless about their cell phone use? In just the hour I've been here, two people have had loud conversations. Don't they think to step outside or at least down to the lobby? Eric
  23. ^ I'm sure the term "gravity powered coaster" is being used because of the increasing number of coasters that get to speed by way of some kind of launch mechanism. Trims aren't my favorite thing either, but since we all want extreme thrills, they're a necessary evil if we want to reduce track wear and tear. Eric
  24. Yes, you could see Revolution from I-5. And you still can if you look. If I recall, the park was called Magic Mountain in Rollercoaster! Sometimes it's easy to mix up scenes from that movie and National Lampoon's Vacation, where SFMM was called Walley World and had different ride names. I'd mentioned before that this storm was not the first time that SFMM had snow, and the pictures from metrock above are proof of it. (I thought it was earlier than 1989, but I guess not.) Eric
