Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
brneff99 replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I grew up in the Midwest and going to SFStL and KI each Summer...you all are really bringing back some memories...! I was going to add the Rivers of the Mississippi boat ride as one of my favorites...I remember the section where the Indians in the canoe came out from behind the trees or bushes as you passed and being pretty freaked out as a child...Quick ?...did these attractions just get dated or did the age of PC end them? I do remember the magic shop as well as the Old Barrel ride...I also remember the Summer that SE opened and that you had to wait in line to get your hand stamped with a time that then allowed you to wait in line at that time of day...craziness in this day and age. I got the chance to take my kids to the park several years ago and while we had a great time, its certainly not the same park from the late 70s... -

What defunct park intrigues you the most?
brneff99 replied to coaster57's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I seem to recall a similar message trail on this topic in the past...but for me, being nostalgic from my Youth, it would definitely be Opryland...even though now as an Adult I'm sure I would be disappointed or see it differently... -
So first of all, I could not survive w/o my daily/nightly review of this site/forum...my family loves my TPR nerdness...and I loathe scrolling through the stupid, immature, and idiotic posts...so keep bringing down the stragglers in the rear of the pack Robb!! Now more importantly, I was fully committed to waiting until a WCB or mid week day in the Summer to hit up TC...but after the last few days, there is just no way that I can wait...I was fortunate enough to ride the original Colossus in its opening month (so now you know I'm old) and I'm thinking that I will just brave the wait and get there opening day as I'm not sure I can live with hearing reviews for days and weeks and not experience this myself.

Ride You Felt Was Unsafe?
brneff99 replied to Mr Stratosphere's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have to agree with the Post above...my first ride on X (long before it was reborn as X2) was with my 7 or 8 year old and I was convinced more than once that I was coming out so I was terrified that he was coming out for sure...the on-ride photo was so priceless that we bought it...I think it started my love affair with the ride that day... -
Worlds of fun/Sfstl photo trip report.
brneff99 replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Based on all your pics, you caught each park with no crowds...during the week? Agree with all your SFStL comments...there is a reason there is never a line for Ninja...and the Boss nearly killed me... That was the first pic of SE that I've seen from that angle that shows how far the Boomerang rises towards it...not sure I like that visual now or not... -

As a SoCal resident of Long Beach, I can only hang my head in shame every TR and post from Tokyo Disney Sea thinking of what could have been...great TR so far...I've read so many of the Japan TRs now that I feel like I've been there... -

that was the wrong post to read after a less than inspiring Dinner on a Thur night...or maybe it was just the right thing...thanks Robb...and so bummed to be missing all of you at WCB this weekend...even though we are locals, we could not overcome schedule conflicts...but I look forward to all of the Social Media updates... -
This has quickly become one of my favorite TPR Trip Reports...I'm forever jealous of some of these trips...have to get on one...have to get on one...have...

That was a whole lot of photos of a ride you think is overrated...? I was pleasantly surprised to find last Friday that the audio was once again working...and that no one was in the park during the day...possibly because it was so hot and smoggy...and almost all rides were a walk on...except for that wood coaster in the back that for some reason they cannot manage to find a way to get more than one train running...when was the last time it ran 2 trains or is is just my bad luck? I love Batman but was horribly underwhelmed by the train going backwards...and Colossus backwards was just one long extended period of ouch...I should have known when they were using old Pysclone trains to just skip the experience...it finally made me pledge once and for all to not go near that side of the park again until the RMC Dr's have performed their magic...I was impressed (O.k. expectations were very low) by the recently opened Yolo Sports Bar...and although a short ride, I do love the ride on Yolo...also noticed the red paint lines...not sure what those are for??

The beginning portion of the Enchanted Forest TR reminded me of Storybook Gardens that was at the Wisconsin Dells back in the day... -

Great TR!! We did a similar trip 2 years ago but hit KI instead of SDC...I agree with your comments on American Thunder...it was the surprise of our trip...I'll just have to respectfully disagree on The Boss...clearly we caught it on a VERY BAD day...and we are Ghostrider locals...but I do agree it has an amazing layout and could be improved...will forever love the nostalgia of the Screamin Eagle...and loved everything about HW...I can only imagine the park during a TPR event...thanks for all the great photos... -
XYZ's Last Visit to SFMM! (Photo TR) BONUS PHOTOS Posted!
brneff99 replied to XYZ's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
It would be sad and pathetic if it wasn't already so sad and pathetic...the park, not the TR...which just makes me think that they are never going to get it or get it together...perhaps WCB should be KBF and a park TBD instead from here on out...I'd even drive to San Diego for Sea World at this point... -
That sign has been on Scream since at least early April when my company had an event there...it was one train at that time...seriously, does it take that long to rehab another train?? Really...? So glad we are skipping Saturday of WCB this year to focus on Sunday...I'd like the Yolo credit but I can wait...I hope its a great day on Sat for those going but I remain skeptical...

Texas/Midwest 2013 Tour Mini-Updates!
brneff99 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I finally got around and time to read the Update in its entirety...I followed along each day on Social Media but there are some great recounts in here...I'm 100% convinced that I need to find time to do a lengthy TPR trip...I'm amazed at the dedication and time that Robb and Elissa put into these trips... Out of curiosity, how was The Boss running...we rode it last summer and I seriously thought it might kill me...but I've heard its had some work this season... I have not been to the Dells since I was a kid and now I see no real reason to rush back... Anyway looking forward to WCB in a few weeks in our backyard...I hear that Accelerator has snapped a cable again (or it could be a bad rumor) and now I'm convinced that it won't matter because of all the other awesomeness that will no doubt be in store... -
The Official WEST COAST BASH 2013 Thread!
brneff99 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks for the additional info Rob and Elissa from yesterday (i.e. no additional surprises coming)...making SFMM in the AM would have been tough and I was about to ask if you can pick up your stuff later in the day at willcall and we might make the evening but based on the offering from the folks at that park, I think we'll only hit KBF on Sunday this year...the fact that its only 15 mins away is just an added Bonus...! -
Hit the park yesterday for the first time since WCB last year...virtually everything a walk on the entire day...it was a private event after 6 for our company but we had ridden everything multiple times by then...I've never been able to walk directly into the station for X2...quite a break... Thoughts: - 1st rides on Lex Luthor...its a great ride with great views...we actually got a ride at dusk with a Superman launch and it certainly does sway tremendously... - Park was very clean...the best I've seen it in years...we only had positive interaction with all employees... - Even with no crowds, all coasters were running 2 trains except Apocalypse..Tatsu and X2 were cyclying quickly - Yolo looks like it will be a good addition...yes, its short but so is Accelerator and that is a tremendous ride...so I'm keeping an open mind...they kept the gate open all day for folks to snap photos and watch...which I did...but... - I'm also an IDIOT and lost my I Phone on ride #2 of the day on Batman...and it was deep in my pockets...so all my shots and attempts to emulate Robb at Vine Videos went with it...but maintenance called me this morning and found it with just a cracked screen..still functioning great...so minor setback...but sadly I felt like a starved addict all day w/o it... - No rides on Revolution..its dead to me until its restored...only ride we didn't ride..and how sad is that... - Tried the recommended seat on Viper...better ride but still not great... - Colossus is just so slow and in need of the rumored overhaul...w/o it, I think I find no reason to go to that end of the park any longer... So we got our fix of all our SFMM favorites and that should cover us until WCB in September...

Top Roller Coaster Myths & Rumors!
brneff99 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Joining this thread a little late...and showing my age once again...but growing up in the Midwest there was always a rumor of a rattlesnake falling from a tree into the log flume at SFStl and killing a kid...and then, years later, the rumor that the park actually had video of the husband pushing his wife from the stand up coaster...each of those came back to me many years later while reading through these tonight...all the KI death stories as well...and I'm certain I've read one way or another on this one but the decapitation on the Matterhorn back in the day story/rumor/or truth... -
