  1. It looks very unique to me and an all around fun ride. From the looks of it Sky Rocket looks right up my alley and the woodies like like good classic rides. the fact that the 2nd drop goes THRU Thunderbolt is just amazing and fun. the Helix around the Turtle ride is fun too.. but word of advice.. .either lift your butt off the seat or pad your testicles once you pass back thru Thunderbolt (and into the Helix, bunnyhops). your balls will love you for it, and you won't be walking crooked the rest of the day
  2. I have not, and I remember reading your report about KennyWood, etc last year and was hoping you'd also respond to this (in addition to locals/those with insider tips, etc) so thank you! This trip started as an idea for a road trip to Cedar Point, since neither of us have been, and once I visited Hershey in October and did Skyrush, its all I've talked to my bro-in-law about since we both love airtime and Intamin. Last time he was at Hershey was when Fahrenheit went up and the park has a really nice collection otherwise in Storm Runner, Great Bear, SDL, the GCI's (I liked Wildcat, sue me!) etc. I also need the Trailblazer and the boomerang creds and I missed Comet too so I definitely want to get back. Anyways, as we were talking about it the idea came up to do Hershey, and head to CP for a few days. We thought "why not stop at Kennywood for a quick credit run on the way? It's right on the way." And so here we are. My main concern @ the park is Phantom. I think it looks amazing. Sky Rocket also looks awesome, even for its size. The woodies are also must-dos, imo. I know Exterminator has a buzz about it but Ive done one spinning mouse and hated it (Ragin Cajun @ SFA). I don't really like most mouse to begin with and hate tea cups with a fiery passion and to me its a combo of the two. We are into some flats too I just don't like anything that spins too much (or at all depending on the day). Bayurn Curve is a huge MUST - loved that ride as a kid, haven't been on one since. Thanks so much for all the advice so far, you guys rock. I did NOT like Exterminator, but Nick loved it. Yes, it's a spinning mouse, but it's really well themed. The kicker for me tho is it really IS so dark? you don't know when the drops are coming. Something my back didn't care for, but as I said, Nick LOVED it. if you do Phantom's Revenge and Exterminator back to back, you'll come out along the strip of rides along "Kennywood drive". . so you can also knock out the Whip (classic), Yoyo (classic), Himalaya, and Bayurn Curve, before you head back to Screaming Swing and Black Widow (the honking HUGE frizbee) then headed towards potato patch you can knock out Turtle (classic), Noah's Arc (classic), Thunderbolt (classic). . lol, noticing a trend . and the Ghostwood estate's type shooting dark ride. The whole park is full of classic rides -- the area near Jackrabbit(. . OMG. .that double dip drop?. . the videos online do not do it justice. . ass out of seat the whole way down!) -- that's where you'll find Paratrooper, Kangaroo, Racer, as well. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  3. oh. .and join ClubTPR (why aren't you a member??). great discounts on all the parks you want to visit! and you can buy your tix thru TPR and print them out before you go!
  4. Have you ever been to Kennywood? we went last June for the first time as part of our Coaster trip thru Penn. so here's my advice. forecast was 90% rain on the day we went (but we went anyways, as that was the day we budgeted for it in our schedule). Not a drop of rain all day, but it DID keep the crowds away all day. we did not make use of any "skip line" at Kennywood - as I said, crowd was light the day we were there due to forecast. BUT there were two exceptions: Phantom's Revenge, and Exterminator. I followed the advice from a Pittsburgh regular here, and upon entry to the park from the tunnel, took an immediate left and we headed towards Exterminator (an indoor spinning mouse). As we were passing Phantom's revenge, they were just starting to open up the line, so we just went ahead and got in it. We ended up being on the 2nd car of the day, and tho we had planned to ride it again later that day, the line got HUGE (as someone else noted, they were only running one car). . so I was glad we got it out of the way first. after exiting Phantom, we went to Exterminator. . and despite it being far back in the park, and not one of the "marquee" rides? The line was still a good 20 minutes just after Park opening. so yeah. . knock out Exterminator and Phantom's Revenge first. 2) wait in line for Kangaroo. Even tho the ride looks like a glorified Sizzler, and a little lame? so, so much fun and worth the queue. 3) don't miss Garfield's Nightmare. . it's "hidden" behind shops across from the Candy pavillion (near Skyrocket) and you have to go up steps and over a bridge to get to it. It's cheezy, but a good indoor 3D dark ride. 4) LOVED LogJammer. .one of our favorite flumes on our trip. Same with the Whip and Bayurn Curve. . don't miss em. 5) Potato Patch fries were good, but we didn't care for the deep fried Oreos that others rave about at this park. 6) take the train ride. . it runs along the river, and you pass a ton of signs showing Kennywood history. Very interesting. 7) the Woodies are all good, in this order: Jackrabbit, Racer, Thunderbolt. . but all are worth your time. 8) Skyrocket is completely skippable. We rode it on the way out of the park and agreed that it was just "ok" and if there had been a line, we would have wasted our time. we felt Kennywood was an all-day park, and even being mostly light crowd, we still spent a good 8 hours here. we stayed at the Waterfront, only 10 minute drive away (and Kennywood offers free/cheap parking, so that wasn't an issue at all). I'd recommend this place. It was comfortable, the area is much developed (it's a shopping center called the Waterfront). . . and it's MUCH safer than staying right next to Kennywood -- which is NOT in the best of neighborhoods, sorry to say. here's the info from the hotel we used: http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/pennsylvania/hampton-inn-and-suites-pittsburgh-waterfront-west-homestead-PITWHHX/index.html
  5. great report thus far. Not sure I could do such a crowded park! (odd, since I go to super crowded conventions every year).
  6. ^ it's the same moron in all videos. why is Disney not putting a stop to this? It's CLEARLY unsafe for others on the ride.
  7. hehe. I'm like an evil roller coaster villain - "the derailer!"
  8. don't forget the fruits and nuts!
  9. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] They start in the gift shop, but at around 4:12 is when they go onto the mini-golf course. (again, free to get in and browse/buy. . only pay if you want to play the golf)
  10. LOL. yeah, but it IS the last true "old school Vegas show". .tho you might see Showgirls in shows at Tropicana here and there. but if you catch the late performance, of "Jubilee", that's typically the topless one (classic Vegas)
  11. We've never done the Titanic exhibit, but I have seen the coupons for it in the strip booklets, and I'll bet they sell them at Tix4tonight (we got really cheap Madame Trussaud's tix from them a few trips ago). I'd love to go to that Pinball place. . adding it to my list. one that we always hit (and that's because I'm a huge (I mean HUGE) KISS fan. . the KISS Monster Mini Golf, across the street from the Hard Rock Casino. It's indoor, glow in the dark, mini-golf surrounded by KISS memorabilia, KISS stage Props, and a live DJ in the corner who plays KISS songs (from all albums). . so it's a hoot, although likely enjoyed more if you're a fan of KISS. Also has the largest KISS store in the world, with a lot of authentic signed merchandise for sale -- Gene/Paul/Tommy/Eric deliver new stuff to the store all the time. . so we always make a stop at Monster Mini Golf, even if we don't always play. Free to go in (only pay if you wanna play), and there's a free shuttle from MGM Grand to the Hard Rock (you just have to ask where to go), and then just cross the street for Monster golf
  12. 2nd for Wicked Spoon (in the Cosmopolitan). it's our favorite buffet in Vegas, and has been for a couple of years now. note: it's NOT cheap, tho if you go for Sat/Sun brunch, the cost includes Mimosas/Bloody Marys. . .but the food is not typical Buffet style. . .rather it's served Tapas style. . so fresh, individual, plates. we always make a stop at Wicked Spoon for at least 1 (and possibly 2) meals. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g45963-d1974782-Reviews-Wicked_Spoon_Buffet-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html (the other very good Buffets in Vegas are: Mirage (and you're right next to that one), and if you go to Freemont on Fri/Sat nights, the Golden Nugget has a Seafood buffet that is spectacular (HUGE crab legs, and lots of shellfish options). Best steakhouse in Vegas (again, expensive, but very, very good), is amazingly at CircusCircus.
  13. We did our Pennsylvania trip in June of 2014 (hitting Kennywood, HersheyPark, Knoebel's, and Dorney: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=68306 ) and tho we didn't rent and return in the same city, we DID discover it was MUCH cheaper (hundreds of dollars cheaper) to rent in Pittsburgh and return in Philadelphia. so definitely take the time to research rental costs before you decide which city you fly into/rent from. as far as the parks in Penn. . we like to do shows as well as rides, so we planned for 1 full day of each followed by an "off" day where we drove and checked into next hotel. regardless of what you do, I hope you have a great time!
  14. he's going to Vegas with someone who's never been. (for apparently a weekend only). so yeah. .he's going to want to stick to the Strip and Freemont Street areas only
  15. Tix 4 Tonight are up and down the strip. closest one to TI might be in front of Fashion Mall. 1/2 price (or sometimes better) for shows, attractions, etc. http://www.tix4tonight.com/ we use them all the time. .they are legit.
  16. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  17. "Love" is good. also very good is "O" at Bellagio, and "Mystere" (which was "refreshed" a few years ago, and since plays at TI, you might get discounted tickets to, as you're staying on property). if you can sqeeze it in, and if you really like raunchy, old Vegas style. . try to see "Absinthe" (in the tent in front of Ceasar's).. it's less showy Circque Du Soliel show with adult humor, and up close personal setting. If she's never been before?. . I HIGHLY recommend "Jubilee" at Bally's. . it's pretty much the only show still playing with classic Vegas Showgirls. That covers shows. I'd also recommend: 1) a trip down to Freemont street (on the Deuce buses that run 24 hours), hitting the classic casinos (just to look), in particular the Golden Nugget -- to take a look at the world famous pool with the slide thru the shark tank, as well as the huge gold nugget namesake. 2) The Neon Museum downtown is also great fun, but is open odd hours so be sure to check. 3) swing into CircusCircus to watch some of the circus acts over the main casino floor (I think every 1/2 hour these days). 4) walk the shops in the Caesar's forums, being sure to catch both fountain shows (one, the moving fountains, is cheesy, but a classic Vegas attraction, and they are free!) 5) walk the "Parisian" mall between Bally's and Paris. .with the cobblestone floors, and if you have time/cash check out the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower there. 6) of course, the fountains at Bellagio (different music/show every 15 minutes at night), as well as the Volcano erupting at Mirage (every hour). 7) I enjoy walking thru Luxor, just to check out the unique hotel/casino (pyramid), as well as Excalibur next door (castle. .with a HUGE midway of carnival games downstairs). if you can get her to go on coasters, don't miss Adventuredome behind CircusCircus. those are just off the top of my head. . hope y'all have a good time!
  18. Wrong park! whoops! saw Tower of Terror and brainfarted
  19. "several magnets" ???? that's like a store display! I'm surprised none of them "walked off" during the cruise!
  20. I don't judge, and if it works for you, great. but it's not for me, I'm hopelessly romantic and monogamous. (That's not to say we haven't "played" with an additional person, or at a party. . but we play together).
  21. you should be fine, but if in doubt, here is my suggestion: when boarding, tell the operator that you are visually impaired, and ask them to please double-check your restraints for you. at the time they are checking, ask them to please let you know when it is safe to stand up at the end of the ride. they should be happy to help you out, and you won't need to worry enjoy your rides! best, bert
  22. very cool. unfortunately, no mobile device here (just a desktop). . but I'll see if this luddite can get it to work on that y'all are the best! bert
  23. What a beautiful park! and the flats mostly seem to have very long ride cycles (other than Enterprise. . .that was a shorter cycle than we saw at Dorney Park!!). but just beautiful, with a nice selection of rides. thanks for sharing!
