Shane's Amusement Attic

Warped. Really warped. It reminded me of a program that would pop up on the UHF channels ions ago... Creepy, and yet, just like a car accident- you gotta keep watching just to see what happens next! -
Inverted Wooden Coaster
QueerRudie replied to Vffreak07's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Somehow, this sorta defeats the purpose that the original 'inverted' coaster was intended to do: Provide an exopsed, out in the open and free-flight experience for it's guests. Putting people in the middle of the structure would be cool- but not the same as, oh, say Geist Almighty in his infinite glory. That having been said: Innovation is part of what we as 'coaster people' crave- and a new experience is just that: New and UNIQUE. Would a concept such as this be a success? Time will tell that one. I can think of far less successful ideas- and yet... I STILL THINK THAT A WOODEN INVERTED would be FAR LESS painful than ANY Vekoma 'Hang and Bang" inverted. -

A wee-bit of Disney's America Research here... which DOES apply... There were TWO sites selected for GAm DC- One in MD and One in PRINCE WILLIAM county, VA (West of DC Metro Area)... NOT too far from where Disney's America was to have been based. The same NIMBYs as before- but two plus decades earlier. It's a shame, too- as I think had GAm been built, DC would have been spared SFA! (Sorry- couldn't resist!) -
Everyday Objects

Elevators that have long-haul drop segments (High-rise hotels) Immediatly start cranking out images of Tower of Terror for me in my head- but also The wires from my Laptop (Strange inversions which would KILLER), Dolly Parton (Something about 'twin inversions') Pope's Head road (Burke, VA)- which is a winding, twisting ride through the woods with lots of bunny hops and a few VERY steep and QUITE Terrifying blind drops and curves. (NOTE TO READERS: DO NOY TRY THIS AT HOME!)- -
I call on comedy for the 'role playing' thingy- We all know that homosexuality is normal, as you see it in nature. It's proven. But how often do you see one cow tying up another cow and beating it for sex? "DOOO me BOSSY! DO ME!" "TAKE IT ELSIE, TAKE IT!" That's a pretty rare farm occurance! (Sorry, I know- Bad BAD joke, but when people start talking about roleplaying- it comes to mind. MANY PROPS to Suzanne Westenhoeffer for the joke, BTW!)

HEHEHEHEHEHE- Agreed. Even I get worn out after too many rounds of riding- And I respect his rights to non-inversion madness (How many loops CAN one body take???)- but I do have plans to get him on Monte or Revolution this fall (My BD this year is to do Disneyland- for the first time- as well as Knotts and MM if possible!)- And YES- they DO WORK! WELL! LOL

16 October 1992- Busch Gardens Williamsburg- and it was PHENOMINAL! Park was mostly empty, Rides were re-ride/walk on (Even DF in it's inaugural season!) and I had the BEST time- PLUS, as an added bonus- My beloved girl, Nessie, did an E-STOP with us on the second Lift- requiring a WALK DOWN! (AMAZING!) So, of my birthdays- one of the greatest. Ever!
-
You won't belive this.... Mine is 62! (And has 10x the energy than I DO!)- Small world I guess! As for coasters, he'll go on non-inversion stuff, and the smaller rides, but I don't expect to see him on SFDK's Medusa anytime soon- he got QUEASY looking at Monte's Revenge at Knotts!
-
Geez. 37 years? And all I've been able to muster (as of yet) is 4 years! But then again... In an ODD similar but still relevant topic: I met mine VIA this internet thing.... and with ALL the great things I love about him... he's NOT a coaster enthusiast! WAY TO GO!- and I can ONLY hope for the same from my end!
-
Color me GREEN with envy- so differen from my first trip last August to SFGAm- with the 2 hour waits and HUGE crowds for ALL rides! Good report, BTW- WELL done pics- and HOW GREAT that it was Walk On for you....

I can see this point of view completely. SFA does earn a reputation for being somewehat 'downtrodden' due to it's location. That should not reflect the local populous or related for any reason. If anything, SFA sufferes not from urban blight, but lack of direction or of planning for that matter. It's a bad case of management not doing the right directions at the right times, or to allow for proper control of the park. SFA, if I had my way (And I did speak of this earlier) would have MUCH better control of it's own STAFF and THEN the people in the park. For the most part, SFA has the potential to be a -GREAT- park with the right control and the right reasons to operate. But when the staff just don't care, you won't ever get a good product. And the staff do that: They JUST DON'T care. The location is GOOD. It's got a great cache of people around the area (See the DC map for that matter) and even has good Public Transport access. If they could JUST figure out what those people want. Another Kids attraction area? Nope. ENORMOUS RIDES of scale? Nope. A good, clean and FUN atmosphere? YUP. As I get ready to move to the Bay area, I think of SFA with some good memories, outnumbered by BAD ones nowadays. Sadly, too.

This is an odd thing I see- BGE? Perhaps. Fits the the theme, right sized, quality park with good rides and a good mix of attractions and themes. BUT.... PRICEY. I think it goes without saying that BGE is going to be worth some Megabuck$$$$ in a price tag. GG: Good park, small, and ready for development. Right area, good market, plenty of people. Land to spare, and space to grow. Already has a few good rides and some good concepts- But has sufferered due to lack of foresight and traffic due to lack of 'large rides' that draw crowds. And possibly a GOOD asking price, even with it's location. With Great America on not-so-solid footing right now, I think GG would be a good fit for a park operator willing to put in money to expand a small park into something larger (I'm headed to GG on the 25th of April as my first 'trip' in the bay Area)- so I hope to get a better 'feel' of what might make it a 'bigger/better park or one along the lines of SixFlags or Cedar Fair type. Just my .02 worth there.

I bow my head at this news. The loss of any of Schwartzkopf's greatness is a sad and truly lamentable day. As a -very- devout Schwartzkopf Entusiast, I can only hope that we do not lose any more of these great rides. There are so few of them left intact, and to see another one disappear is rather sad. (Perhaps I should start a "Save our Schwartzkopf" campaign?!?!?!

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
QueerRudie replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Outstanding update, Robb- and really REALLY obscene. Some of those shots are worth their weight in gold. Just plain ol' fashioned dirty dirty dirty! And quite nice, too! -
WHO KNEW? I've got a couple of friends who got 'married' there before it was considered legal. BUT IOWA???? WTF? It's sad when IOWA is more 'advanced' than California and Prop 8. IOWA. I'm still stunned.
-
As a gay man soon to be in California, I have to think we deserve the right to marry just like anyone else does. Why should straight couples be the only ones to have the right to marry and be miserable with their partner for the rest of their lives? I mean, I want it too! (Bad Joke, but hey, I'm not known for good ones!)

Photo TR: Flying LA to Melbourne on an A380
QueerRudie replied to Cameron's topic in Random, Random, Random
As an airliner enthusiast, and as a person who's been on the 380 (Emirates, to Dubai, btw-) I have to say great report. It's good to see the differences in the ICE system from QF to EK- and there are some very nice differences- Did you notice the 'wobble' the plane does during cruise (the strange 'whale like' motion of the cabin left to right)? I did- as I've seen on other Airbus 'large' aircraft. Good job- and nice shots! -
Retro PTR: Amusement Park Vacations from the '70s!
QueerRudie replied to larrygator's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Those photos are great- and the historical perspective is nice to see of 'The way things WERE'- Growing up in that era and having experienced the early 'second wave' theme park era makes me wax poetic for a return to such simplicity. Yes, I love a good Beemer, I love to see what Intamin cranks out next.... But a simple, classic double loop ride does wonders for me any day! Thanks for the great 'retro' TRs! -
Two bottles of -overly- priced Sparkling Wine and a bottle of Champaigne for my near-future arrival in my new home of San Mateo, CA. Price? three bottles for $100.00- tax included. (I MUST REALLY LOVE MY MAN!)

Hmmmmmm... a topic with MEAT in it? And I'd yet to post? I must be slipping... Bacon: PROOF that food is BAD for you and is SO TASTY TOO... Nothing like having a nice thick slab of back fried nicely- or used in soups (French Onion comes to mind) or wrapped around a nice shaft of apsaragus the grilled, or with a good hamburger. It's one of the Animal Kingdom's finest products- and one we should all celebrate! MEAT! MEAT! MEAT!

OUTSTANDING! Having only heard of the park in passing, it looks like a great place to see- despite it's unusual location. In some ways, it looks a LOT like a park I'd create in RCT2- complete with trees popping up everywhere- and the Enterprise near the entrance! NICE job- one of the better TRs I've seen in a while! -
A BRIEF and TERRIBLE Photo TR From Hong Kong & Japan
QueerRudie replied to Wes's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
WOW. And I thought my last trip to Japan was WARPED. That looked almost like what happened to me after a bottle of Saki....and a few Beers, and WAAAAYYY too much sushi... and WAAAYYY too little sleep. Nice Job. VERY FUNNY. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
QueerRudie replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The ride looks amazing to say the least- but I think the Lift hill itself would keep me OFF of it- as it's too 'thin' for my comfort zone... that and I don't usually DO water rides. But it looks like a real 'star' attraction in a great park!
