  1. Back in my day, we could actually wait a few hours without having to call people and tell them every boring detail from our boring day. And my day was only two years ago. Simply put: It's rude and unsafe to talk on your phone at work. Wait until a break, or be smart and don't bring it to your job site. Sheesh. Is it really that impossible to not constantly be connected with someone?
  2. The Amusement Safety Organization is a joke. Just like this story. Haha. They said they were threatened by other people when they cut in line. Broadcast journalism, you've done it again.
  3. My friend who works at the park says testing started Thursday. He said it rolled back in the second corkscrew.
  4. That no-smoking policy is going to be really hard to enforce. It seems like everyone smokes at CP. When I was a sweep there, I'd easily clean up 5,000 butts in an eight-hour shift. But it may make it easier to clean them, and the park won't have to worry about them being tossed in trash cans. And Chick-Fil-A. Sweet! Too bad about being closed on Sundays.
  5. ^ Hurr. I misunderstood. Still, I don't think this camera is on a buoy. Maybe one of the pillars on that pier.
  6. I don't think so. It's controllable, so it moves because someone's pointing it where they want it. Even the Web site says where it is: "Located on the Sandusky Register's TV tower 165 feet high, this camera gives you panoramic views of the downtown Sandusky area."
  7. Hooray! Now every single roller coaster will be rated 5, every single ride taller than 40 feet will be rated 5, and nothing will be rated 1. Cedar Fair's ride-rating system's the best.
  8. Can anyone tell me how it stopped in the base of the loop? No pictures I've seen show brakes in the loop, so the only thing I can figure is the on-board PLCs engage some sort of brake on the wheels themselves.
  9. ^ Perimeter Road is the road that runs on the outside of the park from the parking lot to Soak City.
  10. I'm sure the canyons will look better from other angles and without that material covering the track. The animations didn't make the tunnel seem like it'd be anything else. Maybe covered in wood, but it's not going to be a cave.
  11. Why don't you tell us how you really feel? Does Gwazi remind you of Voyage because it's wooden? In that vein, Montu reminds me of the Santa Monica West Coaster.
  12. The last hill was the best. And the hop entering the turnaround was excellent. Boy, I'm glad I got to visit it in that short span the park was open in 2002. The ride's still standing there. The park's still there. A member of a forum I visit recently took a trip there and got some snapshots. I'll see if I can find the thread. Edit: Here ya go. It's sad to see it like that.
  13. I only recently heard of this game because I just moved to Ohio. It's so weird that this game is practically an Ohio-only thing. It's not even a regional thing. It's just Ohio. I don't even understand what the big deal is. Horseshoes, beer pong, tossing a beanbag in a bucket 20 feet away -- it's all practically the same, yet Ohio invents its own hick version. And don't get me started on "Sweetest Day" or whatever. This crazy state!
  14. If it's a half-pipe coaster, Intamin updated the track style. The other rides have I-beam rails.
  15. What was the point of getting the balloons?
  16. A spinning coaster? The cars will probably be shaped like nipples, and it'll just go around in endless helices shaped like breasts.
  17. Yes there is: http://www.mouseplanet.com/kkrock/figure2-4.jpg And yes, leaving a train in place for months will cause the track-touching part of the wheel to distort slightly. Then running on those wheels would cause a tiny bump each time it rotated. Spin those wheels at high RPM when the coaster is travelling fast and those unnoticeable bumps will quickly become a Constant vibration. Whether or not this is what causes the problem the plagues some of the BaM sitdown coasters I don't know, but it does happen. I thought polyurethane was more plastic than rubber. The wheel lining certainly doesn't have the give that rubber does. Also, what do you mean by "leaving a train in place for months"? Coasters are always moving. They're stopped in the station and the transfer tables for a few hours during the night, but they're taken apart during the offseason. Unless you meant all that time sitting adds up to months. If that were the case, why would that do more harm than constantly moving?
  18. What? There's no rubber on the wheels, and being parked for extended periods doesn't cause flat spots. It's just the B&M shuffle -- similar to the Intamin shuffle. I like the magnetic brakes, but I've only been on Silver Bullet. They're smooth and powerful, but they're cool. I'm sure B&M's using them for the reasons EBL said. Think about it. Before magnetic brakes, a train would slam into the brakes at the end of the ride. Those first few brakes would take the brunt of the force, and they'd need to be replaced more often than the brakes at the end of the brake run. The magnetic brakes slow the train enough so less force isn't applied to the beginning brakes. That means less maintenance, which leads to less money spent. Edit: Anyone want to make a list of the B&M coasters with magnetic brakes? Silver Star (the first B&M to use magnetic brakes) Nitro Tatsu Patriot Silver Bullet Black Mamba (?) Nemesis Inferno (?) Dah. What else?
  19. Does anyone know if the hill will be straight or slightly twisty with some banked track because the zero-G rolls were heartlined? Does that make any sense?
  20. I don't know about Ginzo or the rest of you guys, but I go to an amusement park and have fun. If it's got a rehashed ride that sucks, I'll skip it. I lived in Denver for the summer. I had Six Flags Elitch Gardens where the only original ride was Twister II. The Flying Coaster, Half Pipe, Mind Eraser, Boomerang and Sidewinder are all clones. Did that stop me from visiting multiple times? Nope. That said, Fireowl or Owlhawk or whatever this is called is a good choice. I like the red paint scheme too. Kings Island is saving money by installing this ride, and it's adding to its great ride collection. Yay. Maybe my Maxx Pass -- which is yet to be purchased -- will be worth it after all.
  21. It's not the same layout, but B&M can sue. Just like Vernon Keenan's estate sued Summers for building Georgia Cyclone and Psyclone. It's not the same layout, though it is similar. The two corkscrews are together, where as on Batman, they are separated by some turns.
  22. I knew there was trick track there, but I didn't even feel it when I rode it in 2003. The whole ride didn't track well, and I was a little let down that I didn't get to "feel" the trick track. They should have added a small airtime hill instead of just a straight speed section.
  23. Wow. That guy's a loser. That video made me sad for him.
  24. Methinks I might actually give Son of Beast another chance if the trains are any good. The loop was the smoothest part of the ride, so removing the loop actually makes me want to ride it less. I'll wait for the reviews. For all I care, they should tear it down and put a good ride in there.
