  1. ^I'll chime in on the people in Santa Clarity not wanting to bring their kids to the park. When I was growing up my entire family had season passes for several years. We'd occasionally do dinner out, and then head over to the park for a few hours prior to closing. They used to have a deal where if you got there in the final three hours of the day parking was free. I had numerous friends whose families also had passes. So, unless things have changed, I would assume that there are still a lot of families that enjoy going to the park together in the area. However I do agree that in terms of small children (which is what I'm guessing Elissa was talking about) there really isn't much to do at the park. As a family we didn't really start going a lot until I was a bit older (10 or so). I also agree that the answer is not building a bunch of small, subpar kid areas, but rather cleaning up and really improving the ones they have.
  2. As of right now I'm using the Wii, however after finals are done and I have some time, I plan to pick up a PS3. I don't play that much (maybe a few hours a week) so I don't think I really would qualify as a "gamer" but I'm still excited for the upgrade.
  3. I don't see why 35 would make you go slower. Yesterday it was hoovering right around 10 when I woke up, after being foggy all night. We ended up having all morning classes cancelled because of ice. However at 35, things are not going to be frozen anymore.
  4. ^Sorry about that, I read that wrong and confused myself. I was just having such a hard time trying to imagine the new Cowboy Stadium as being compact. As for the Rangers stadium, it really is fairly small. However like I said I like the ballpark, I thought it was a nice place to see a game. The little league fields around the stadium are also a very nice touch.
  5. I don't really see much of anything on the new Cowboy stadium as being compact to be honest. Last time I saw it was back in May of this year, so maybe some of the landscaping has helped make it seem a little bit more compact.
  6. I thought that the Rangers ballpark was ok, it didn't feel as special as Dodger stadium, however I thought it was a nice enough ballpark. I was surprised at just how small it was compared to how it looks on TV. The best part about the stadium? When I went I spent roughly $10 on two tickets. With parking I think I took that up to $20-25. Two tickets to a ballgame (though I'll admit my seats were less then special) for about the same price as going to the movies is a good deal in my opinion. I was playing with the idea of heading out to the Dallas area (about a 6 hour drive for me) when the Dodgers were playing out there back in June, just never really worked out.
  7. A few months ago my wife and I stopped there to spray paint the cars. It's one of the more interesting roadside attractions. It added about an hour or so to my drive, not really sure if it was worth it, but at least I get a story.
  8. This is dissapointing. When I moved to Lubbock I was really holding out hope that this coaster would eventually see the light of day. Joyland really could have used that boost.
  9. ^I think that it is actually a subject by subject thing when it comes to format. While in undergrad I always used MLA (I majored in history) when it came to formatting. For law I'm using blue book style, which about half of the law schools in the country teach.
  10. I've been on both and prefer Titan. The extra helix makes the ride a little bit longer which is nice.
  11. My Kings are not sucking like normal yet... I'm confused and a little scared.
  12. I fully agree with you there, I think the park is going to hit 20 operating coasters sometime likely within the next 10 years or so. I think eventually we'll see significant growth of the park out into the parking lot near where Scream! is located.
  13. I'm not a huge fan of spinners (myself and spinning don't have a good relationship) however if this is a THBS I think it is a good move for the park. It's a solid family coaster and should be popular.
  14. Nat, do me a favor and let me know when you're set to have a baby. I want to be sure to skip Scandia that day.
  15. I'm hoping that there are some good pictures of this as it is done. I'm very curious to see which parts of the ride are removed and what survives. I did enjoy the finale of the coaster and I do hope that survives. Also I did find the ride to be better than Psyclone, however it was not really anything that took my breath away. I'm hoping it is good, Ghostrider (circa 2000) remains my favorite wooden coaster. It's time for that to change!
  16. Last time I was at SFOT I thought that Texas Giant looked taller than Titan!
  17. ^That is what I was thinking. This ship looks like it just barely made it under the bridge, I can't imagine that they can get anything much larger under that bridge. I imagine that eventually they're going to have to start building in places where it is easier to get the ship into the open waters. Very cool video though, from what I have read on wikipedia this seems like an incredible ship!
  18. ^Typically dance competitions didn't really make the lines that much longer, because the girls involved generally have to stay near Golden Bear. The faceplant has always been my concern with Superman backwards. While I don't think it would be a problem if you braced for it, I fully believe that somebody would get on the ride and smack their face on the launch. Now if they retrofitted (again I'm just saying, I'm not advocating nor claiming the park will ever do this) one of the trains with OTSR's then I think it would be absolutely possible. I do agree though that the drop backwards would be far more thrilling backwards!
  19. What makes Colossus such a great coaster to run backwards is the fact that it has two tracks, so the park can run one side forward and one side backwards. With a coaster like Ghostrider it would be more difficult because then you would only have the option of riding it backwards, unless the park did alternating trains which seems unpractical. As far as Ninja, I see it as being too intense to run backwards. I strongly doubt we'll ever see it, though I do think it would be interesting. Not sure how many people remember this, but for a few years after Superman opened people claimed that there were talks of running one side backwards for Fright Fest. I always strongly doubted those talked ever happened, just seemed like such a bad idea in my opinion.
  20. ^And that is basically what I was asking. I understand that it is not practical, I was just curious if it was possible. What changes need to made to the ride, if any, in order for it to run backwards?
  21. I'm glad to see Six Flags is doing some much needed work to this ride. When I was on it last year I could tell that at one point it was a very good wooden coaster, it had just aged poorly. I'm looking very forward to giving it another chance in a couple of years.
  22. ^Weddings??? Halloween is generally not regarded as the most romantic of holidays.
  23. I've never been much of a fan of backwards. Tends to give me some problems with motion sickness (though forwards tends to do that often as well). However I would be interested to know if physically most trains would run backwards. I am not talking about how riders would deal with it or lack of headrests or anything like that, I'm asking from more of an engineering perspective. Basically my question, is there any significant obstacles from keeping certain trains from being able to run backwards, or is it simply a matter of flipping them around.
  24. I updated my Blackberry to a beta OS, and am waiting for the phone to turn into a smoking pile of goo.
  25. I think for me it has been the removal of some of the bigger rides we've seen. Batman and Robin: The Chiller, Hypersonic, Son of the Beast (maybe), are just among a few of the rides that we've seen taken out, despite being the talk of the industry when installed. In the same vein I look at the changes that Six Flags has undergone in the last 10 years. It has been a very interesting 10 years.
