  1. I couldn't think of anywhere relevant to post this and frankly this thread is the best I came up with, so enjoy. Just a taste of the article, be sure to go read the full thing: http://www.theonion.com/articles/new-six-flags-ride-based-on-relationship-with-debo,17223/
  2. 10 more class days and I'm done with school forever!
  3. What would be more upsetting to me in regards to this school is the lack of accreditation. If you attend PCC and decide you want to transfer, your credits won't be good anywhere else. Furthermore this means that any degree you earn from the school generally will be worth the same as the paper it is printed on. Students there filed suit against the school several years ago because of this, and for the fact that the school was largely making it appear that they were fully accredited .
  4. ^If you're friends with her and there are actual feelings there on both sides, I'd go for it. I've never been sure why people are so terrified to date friends.
  5. I could careless about the name, I'm just curious how the show goes over!
  6. Not totally true, there are generally limits to even what private companies can do. The issue of the illegal searches (if they're illegal, frankly I don't know enough about them) is the one however that I could see the court having issue over.
  7. Not sure if there are 12 different violations, but I count at least one major one in regards to the 4th Amendment. Much of the stuff you mentioned wouldn't be a problem because it is a private school, so it's more difficult for them to interfere with Constitutional Rights. Just reading the rules, the way I feel about it is that it would have to be a personal choice of the student to go. I personally couldn't imgaine going somewhere like that, but it might be right for some people.
  8. Enterprise never did make it into space, it was never actually designed to to survive the trip (it lacked engines and a heat shield as far as I understand it), and rather was simply used as a test vehicle for NASA. The original plans called for it to be retrofitted into a space vehicle, but it was simply too costly and instead NASA built Challenger. As an interesting side bar, after Challenger failed, the plan was again to make Enterprise space worthy, however once again NASA decided on building Endeavor.
  9. My first thought at reading this was that it was likely a very slow news day. I worked at the Signal for a little under a year (as an intern while I was in High School) and can tell you that there were some very slow days in which we had a hard time filling up the paper. Also as far as people getting kicked out, I'm sure it is a daily occurence. You get that many people together there are going to be some trouble makers. Just how things work.
  10. Saturday school for asking a question, that is harsh and I would try to find a way to complain.I had a situation like that when I was in High School.Teacher was simply a disaster, granted she had no problems with me personally, but just a terrible teacher. Now in that case she was in her first year so I had a bit more leverage. Furthermore I knew the correct people to talk to about her problems. Needless to say she was not brought back the next year.
  11. Source: http://www.the-signal.com/news/article/26982/ I hate hearing about things like this after the park has really tried to clean up it's image. Problem is whenever you have that many people you're going to have a few people who simply can't follow the rules.
  12. Eric, as I understand it the site in CA for launch was built as a secondary site, though missions were never officially planned there. I had wanted to go see it land once and was at the point of getting ready to drive out to Edwards, when I got news that the landing would be in Florida. Still it must be very cool to see. As a side note I've seen ISS go by several times in the night sky, if you know what it looks like and when to look it is pretty easy to catch. My Dad actually does a lot of stuff with HAM radios, and managed to make a contact with the Space Station as it flew over.
  13. This is all going to come down to what is in the contract (assuming one exists). My guess is that this is going to be pretty cut and dry and will not make it to trial.
  14. Sight is stationary, it is simply light coming to it, therefore it has no speed.
  15. Flashback was an interesting ride, however the roughness just really did it in. I will say however that the drops on that coaster were unlike any other I have been on to date.
  16. Something tells me that that guy didn't really think his decision through. Everybody knows you chain the kid up to the bike rack.
  17. What's your vector victor? Airplane! is one of the funniest movies ever made!
  18. I've got a Blackberry 8900. I'd be lost without the thing, I never use the phone but I depend on my email when I'm on the go.
  19. I fully agree that if this merger happens several of the parks would be let go or shut down. I think at this point it is still way too premature to start making guesses like this. My guess is that in the end Six Flags doesn't merge with Cedar Fair and that Apollo walks away empty handed. Also I have to wonder if Apollo is looking at Six Flags as being a possible silver medal. Say that it doesn't work out and they don't end up taking over Cedar Fair, could Six Flags be their backup plan?
  20. I think another thing to consider would be the future of parks that are in the same area. Just off the top of my head, SFDK and CGA come to mind. In the south of the state KBF and SFMM come to mind. I know there are several others, but my guess is Cedar Fair wouldn't continue to run multiple parks in the same area. I really see this as being a terrible thing for the industry. Competition is a good thing, and I think think this merger could really cause problems in the industry. Of course I could be way off base, I'll admit that I'm not sure what the underlying economics of the situation are.
  21. This should be interesting to follow. I wonder if a chain of that size would start to run into any anti-trust issues. My hunch is that it would not be a problem, however I'm guessing some smaller parks would scream foul. Now for the more business centric people out there I have a question that caught my eye. Why would anybody give credit to Six Flags and not take the steps to secure it? I understand the purpose of secure filings (as well as a disgusting amount of technical details behind them) however the concept of why creditors wouldn't file the paperwork remains beyond me.
  22. Was any work ever started on the Plaza. I believe that was set to replace the Frontier. I've had been following all of these projects up until the markets all went south, I figure I'll start watching again when construction starts back up.
  23. I'm going to keep this very short, but I can almost promise you that this is not a situation where eminent domain is even at issue. Actually what Ginzo said a ways back did a pretty good of explaining the concept of eminent domain. While it would be possible to use the takings clause (because the court made a wonderful decision in the Kelo v. New London case) in the past several years states have really backed off the extremes of the Eminent Domain due to the backlash from the Kelo case. If I had to actually predict the 28th Amendment to the constitution I would place my money that it may have something to do with Eminent Domain, however that is a subject for another place. Just basically I wouldn't worry too much about the state using the takings clause here. I feel very passionately about this issue actually.
  24. I can't even imagine how powerful an 8.8 is. I was a kid in 94 and remember how powerful Northridge was and that was only a 6.8.
  25. I was about to post the very same thing, don't pick a school based on a theme park. I can tell you that from my experience (though I'm a law student I'm pretty sure this will still apply) you're not goingto be in a situation where you have all that much free time to be running to parks. That isn't to say that there won't be any, but education at this level is so time consuming and important (not to mention expensive) that the very last thing on my mind would what parks are nearby.
