  1. Park really looks great, Shane should be proud of what he has put together out there!
  2. I'm just glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that Steve Yzerman was in that picture and not Mario Lemieux!
  3. Eric, I was looking at getting the Droid 2 myself, since I'm a bit of a sucker for the physical keyboard. Regardless though, that is a nice phone, you should like it.
  4. I'm happy about my new phone. I got myself a Droid X last night and I couldn't be happier with it. This phone blows away my old blackberry!
  5. Last night I traded in my beloved Blackberry 8900 and got a Droid X. I had been somewhat of a Blackberry fan boy, and was rather reluctant to make the jump to Droid. After doing it I'm seriously shocked at what I've been missing. This phone is so much more powerful than my old 8900. I loved that phone and I loved the Blackberry brand, but I just can't ignore the fact that this phone is frankly superior to anything Blackberry currently has.
  6. Always enjoy seeing those, and this is the first one I've seen in a few years where clouds didn't ruin the night. I didn't bother with the telescope (I've got a 8in scope) because I frankly don't think it would have done that much, plus the thing weights in the range of 60 pounds and that didn't seem like much fun to move at 2am. The shadows on the moon are what give a sense of depth when using a telescope, so under an eclipse I'd imagine that you're actually going to get a flatter image of the lunar surface.
  7. ^As far as I know the only people who are unionized are the characters that roam the park, and they are actually a special case because they are working on a contract as part of an outside company. I also thought that the mechanics were part of a union, however honestly I could very well be wrong about that.
  8. Robb, if I recall from my time working at the park (2003-2004) I don't believe we got paid anything extra for working those days. I worked one of them (can't tell you which one anymore) and all I got was a $5 coupon to Oasis (employee cafeteria). That might have changed in the last several years but otherwise I'm not sure labor costs would be a huge issue in that regard. I do remember from working there how empty the park used to be on major holidays that I worked. I used to by the sound mixer for certain shows in the park and as part of that I would do audience counts (rough guesses on my part). I generally worked the Bird Show in Bugs Bunny world, on a busy weekend we'd see 250 people per show at the upper limit, I remember on holiday weekends (Thanksgiving and Christmas) it wasn't rare to run the show with the the crowd being in the single digits. I'm sure there is a point where the cost of running the park for the day is considerably greater than the expected revenue from from guests. I wonder if Six Flags looked at the previous years attendance and simply decided that it wasn't profitable to open on those days. Just a thought.
  9. ^When I was first starting college (I believe it was my freshmen year) I had a history profressor who was just terrible. The guy came in on the day of the final and started to lecture. We all thought it was odd and yet nobody said anything. Finally at the end of class he started telling us about the final exam that he was going to give the next class. Sure enough at that point somebody told him that this was the last class. So in his wonderful way he mumbles about it points me out and announces that I will get an A in the class, mentions a girl in the class and announces she would get a B in the class, and finishes up telling everybody else that they well get a C. As you can imagine people were not happy!
  10. I got (well I'm waiting for) a new subwoofer! I've been wanting to swap out my old Sony 8in sub for a while now, and my wife has surprised me (well only after I showed her the exact one to buy ) with a BIC F-12. Should be a pretty major improvement.
  11. I have to agree that they won't implode it. There is way too much stuff right near by. My guess is demolition would be slow and methodical in order to avoid damage to anything else.
  12. For a lesson on how not to build a hotel look up the Harmon at City Center. Read just a few days ago that the place has been condemned and will be demolished.
  13. I ended up at Walmart on Friday morning and they had some decent deals. I walked out with The Dark Knight and The Princess Bride on Blu-Ray and Platoon on DVD for all of $12. Pretty good deal for three movies, especially with two of them as Blu-Ray.
  14. ^I got curious and looked that up since once upon a time Everclear was one of my favorite bands. Rockstar is a perfect example of what went wrong with that band, by the time that song came out they were on a (steep) down hill slide. If you ever want to hear the stuff that made them famous look up the song Santa Monica.
  15. It's a good time to be a LA fan!!!
  16. ^Just a crazy thought but if Facebook causes you so many problems why don't you just delete it. I love my Facebook as much as the next guy but it's not worth losing friends over.
  17. I can give a little bit of advice on this subject. When I was younger I actually ran two separate sites, Rollercoasterz.com and SFMMGuide.com. I had gained some notice from various parks, and several of them would send me their press releases and invite me to media events. The things that I can tell you is that it takes a lot of time before parks began to notice my site. To be honest I got lucky to some degree. When SFMM built X, Deja Vu, and Goliath Jr. they sent out a handful of season pass flyers that announced the new rides. The problem was that some of these flyers apparently went out early. I got one, scanned it, and posted it online, which broke the news on the three coasters. Within a few days of that the park got in touch with me and basically agreed that they would begin inviting me to things and including me as a member of the media as long as I didn't post things early like that again. That event got a lot of people to my site and very quickly other parks began to notice my site and include me in their events. So in my case frankly there was a little bit of luck involved. If you're just starting a website don't expect that parks are going to take notice or care over night. It takes a lot of time, and a lot of work. I had run my sites for the better part of 2-3 years before a park even glanced in my direction. If I could give some advice, I think it would be much easier to focus on a single park, or even possibly a region rather than the industry as a whole. Good luck with it!
  18. Last year NJ had more of a focus on defense.
  19. Nobody was hurt or anything like that however the CP version, Vertigo, collapsed some years back. After that they removed the one at KBF, and after that it seemed like the idea for the ride just fizzled.
  20. Thrill Shot just never really seemed to catch on at the park. I got several rides in on it right after it opened (SFMM was hosting an event and it was free that night) and frankly the thing terrified me. I'm not much of a fan of heights and that was just higher then I was happy going. The ride seemed like a good idea and I wonder if we would have seen more of them if not for the accident at Cedar Point.
  21. I watched that game and it looked terrible. The place was silent all night and it was hard to miss the fact that every time the camera panned the place was empty.
  22. For those of you who have had the chance to ride a Zac-Spin, how is the ride in terms of causing motion sickness? Just watching the videos makes me feel a little dizzy.
  23. A broken back is a pretty serious injury, I'm not at all shocked that somebody with that kind of an injury would be quick to sue the park. I would guess that nearly everybody on this site would sue the park if they received a broken back on a roller coaster no matter how much they loved the park. To sum this up really easily, there was apparently paint on the brakes when there wasn't supposed to be paint on the brakes. Somebody is going to be at fault for the paint being there. Whoever was negligent in leaving the paint is responsible for an accident in which at least one rider was seriously injured. Therefore the party that was negligent deserves to be held liable.
  24. Bar exam results in two weeks. It's been three months since the exam and I'm going nuts!
  25. I'd love to know what that settlement looks like, I'm sure it involves a huge amount of money however. Given the fact that this girl has been in the hospital for nearly 4 months her medical bills are likely already astronomical already, not to mention all the future care she is going to need. That is not even talking about the fact that she is going to be left with some serious psychological scars. Just to top all this off I'm sure extra money was thrown in there because this seems like a situation where punitive damages would have been in play. All said I wouldn't be shocked if, given the girls age, the settlement is in the 8 digit range.
