Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
anonymouscactus replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Excited for pass preview day in 2 days! They finally confirmed my all season FL+ will be available to redeem so I'm definitely there. The weather is going to be perfect and I suspect it's going to be really busy. Just curious if a lot of rides won't be ready due to the terrible and cold weather this week. -

Oh crap, sorry, with all the Wonderland talk I thought this was a different thread. Sorry about that >.< -

So a park in another country, not even at the edge of the border, near a major Canadian city, sees more foreign visitors than Canadians? Curious where you got that stat from... -- anyways, yeah, what Johnlloyd said. Anyways... back to Kings Island... and editing my post... -
Uhhh... Wut? That's like saying nobody eats at the Chick-fil-A at Cedar Point or King's Island because they charge double a normal one. Yet it typically has just as long of a line as Maverick next door, lol. Not many people leave the park to eat. It's more convenient to pay an extra $6 than to leave the park, for most (not all) people.

What Was the Last Beer You Drank?
anonymouscactus replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
I typically don't like dry or semi dry ciders, but this was the only option I had at a brewery I was just at and it was on draft and actually pretty good! https://untappd.com/b/blackbird-cider-works-estate-reserve-semi-dry-cider/1077634 -
Free drinks for everyone!!!!! Sorry for not being helpful. But I think it's safe to say that the benefit is only for yourself unless you decide to pour the drink into another cup and go again. There is supposed to be a "cool down" period to prevent that (ie: 'unlimited' every 5 minutes, or whatever is in the FAQ). They said they don't enforce it but they have every right to if you become a problem

The only chain pizza I will eat is BLAZE. Going to pick up a pizza later for $3.14 in honor of their pi day promotion (that is good all month!). I like them because you can customize your pizza with literally more than 20 different toppings, cheeses, etc, and it's still one price (less than $11! Though I typically get the "high rise" because their regular pizza is way too thin it's an extra $2.50 I think). Any other pizza place in the area charges like $1.50 per topping or whatever, and my wife loves a bajillion toppings, so a pizza costs like $25 anywhere else. Typically for a "normal" Buffalo pizza I get cup & char pepperoni (it's a WNY thing), and maybe mushroom or Italian sausage if I'm feeling frisky. Keep it simple. At BLAZE I like the spicy red sauce, fresh mozzarella, goat cheese, pepperoni, Italian sausage, chicken, artichoke, banana pepper, jalapeno, roasted garlic, mushroom, topped with a balsamic glaze, oregano, and red pepper flakes. It's not a typical pizza but damn it's good in my eyes. They opened a crumbl cookie store next door a few weeks ago, and everyone is raving about their key lime cookie and glazed oatmeal this week, so I'll stuff those down my throat, too. I've never been, so it will be an interesting evening and I'll be rolling home.

This reminds me of the story I used to scare the $#_$ out of my friend when I was a kid. Nightmare at Phantom Cave at Darien Lake, since you can't see the ride I told him you have to listen when I say to DUCK otherwise your head will get chopped off. He didn't believe me. Not 5 minutes later, no joke, guy comes out of the exit door with a wheelchair with some sort of neck brace. Never seen someone so freaked out as that moment, and what were the odds of this actually happening. Almost as good as "see that mist on the mind eraser? That's acid. That's why people are screaming" line. I was such a lovely child. That *is* a really shitty height requirement, I will agree with that, but there has to be a reason it's there; like it or not. They aren't doing it just to piss people off for no reason. Please don't argue with the ops when you're too tall.

Summer Coaster Trip Advice
anonymouscactus replied to scooterdoug's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I will mirror ALL of adamico2's advice. I agree with all of it. My one piece of advice: Don't miss the water park at holiday world. Even if you HATE water parks, do the 3 water coasters at minimum, and then do all the dry stuff. Seriously. Just trust me. No, really, just do it. No excuses. Literally if it's the only water park you enter in your lifetime, this is the one. Oh, one disagreement with this thread, skyline chili (and that other chain as well... lone star? Or something?) is absolute trash. There I said it. Barra tacos is great. If anyone suggests Chet and Matt's for pizza in Sandusky, they have clearly never had good pizza. It's CHEAP but that's about it. Not sure why everyone raves about it, other than the fact they also have a buffet, but the quality is very eh. Hey... I met my wife at that Santa Claus subway. (insert a joke about a footlong here). Sorry. (Booo.... groooaannn... Etc.) Sounds like a fun trip for a first timer! Ready for summer to be here. -
Manta used to have single rider a long time ago as they always toyed with the '4 staircases' they have going up to the ride. Sometimes merge the QQ with the regular line with a single rider adjacent... or 2 regular queues and 1 QQ and 1 single rider, etc. Depending on crowd levels. I don't think they've done that any time recently, though. I'm getting old. The signs on the staircases have Velcro on the back so they were easily switchable. Crowds are rarely an issue though except as the stadiums let out at show break. I remember seeing a fancy kiosk at Infinity Falls for a one time QQ. Not sure about the others. Infinity Falls is a great raft ride, coming from someone who usually doesn't care about them. You do get soaked, though

You have to walk by the whole park to get to the entrance from the USF la quinta. You are right, about 2 miles total to the entrance, plus 2 miles back, plus another 2 miles to do 1 lap around the park. The walk back probably won't be so fun, and if you're doing it at night, I would say at least take a Uber back to the hotel. Save on 2 additional miles of walking after a long day, and as others have said it's not the greatest of areas. I don't think you'll get mugged taking a walk down McKinley but if you're doing it alone I would probably feel a little uneasy at night.

Just saw SIX and COMPANY on Broadway last weekend. I liked Six more than I thought I would, and COMPANY was interesting how they changed up the roles and also the awesome set pieces. Patti LuPone tested positive for COVID-19 just moments before our show started but everyone still put on a great show. Also saw THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG last minute, off Broadway. Had no idea what to expect... a little over the top and predictable (well... most of it) but I definitely laughed more than a few times. All in all a very expensive but enjoyable weekend!

If you use a debit card at the park you'll have to put in your PIN number, too... all while looking at the LCD displays. Luckily I was smart enough to pass my SAT test. -

I have seen some people (a few times, actually) buy the --regular-- FAST LANE online and then at the park when they are at the booth flash their platinum pass because they didn't understand how the upgrade worked and a supervisor allowed them to do it. This is not standard SOP and I personally wouldn't try it and don't argue with the staff when it doesn't work. In regular circumstances though, they would just make your pay the difference at full price if you bought the regular online. Long story short, I don't know your best option because I don't know how early you can get to the park. Also, I have ASFL so I can show up at any time and not worry about it.
