  1. Usually i just swap out theme parks for other hobbies, like music and video gaming. When im not doing that im either at school or work. This year I really want to go to a park with some holiday hours for a last little fix before I begin the long cold season
  2. Fishpipe looks really sick! It looks like a ride that has a very small footprint, but will get a lot of riders out of novelty. It looks a lot like water zorbing on a stand, so thats really cool. Im excited about Big Fun, it looks like a really compact and awesome ride. Reminds me a bit of American Thunder in the way it crosses over itself so much. I also dig the Gravity Group's idea of having a 90 degree bank into an airtime hill. That just sounds insane The stuff on the new wing rider looks really cool too. I hadnt given that ride too much thought, but it looks really fun. How does the seating configuration on these rides effect the forces on the rider? I kinda wonder this after hearing the discussion.
  3. That is such a cool story, Id love to ride coasters in the snow I think the closest story ive had personally was earlier in the season we went to Holiday World on a day that it was excessively rainy. Due to this, no one was in the park and we more or less had the park to ourselves. I remember one of the times i got to ride the Legend from the front seat by myself in the rain.
  4. I think metal detectors are a good thing to have at parks. My home park, Six Flags St Louis, has had them for as long as I can remember and they definitely provide security. In regards to longer waits to get into the park, I feel its pretty negligible. It can take a slight bit to get in, but it causes less backup on the entry line.
  5. Some Highlights of this season -we rode Voyage 5 times in a row from the front seat in the rain... maybe that isnt a high point... -Rode Batman the Ride, at Six Flags St Louis, 35 times in a row on a slow day. -Went to Kings Island, Started the day riding the Beast, ended the day riding Millennium Force. Im not getting my rides mixed up.
  6. I was kinda shocked when i heard they were getting rid of the dueling aspect of this ride. I was lucky enough to have ridden this ride while it was still dueling and I will say that the dueling aspect was one of the things that made this ride great. I think itl still be a good ride. The proximity of the building to the first part of the cobra roll on one side of it was breathtaking from the front.
  7. It depends heavily on the ride, on wooden coasters I love the back. Its significantly more intense then the front. On steel coasters I prefer the front except on hypercoasters.
  8. 1. Intimidator 305 2. Leviathan 3.El Toro 4. Goliath-Carrowinds 5. Son of Beast- Last one when i know im out of luck 6. Steel Dragon 3000
  9. Six Flags St Louis- About an hour Holiday World 2.5 hours Worlds of fun 4.5 Hours Six Flags Great America 5.5 Hours
  10. I havent been on too many coasters, so my selection is rather limited Wood -Voyage- even though last time i rode it, it was far too painful to notice -The boss, This ride has a lot of airtime in the back Steel -Millennium Force - Diamondback - Magnum xL 200 -Mr. Freeze, The spike from the front row...wow. -Mamba- Front row doesnt have too much airtime, but from the back this ride is really quite nice
  11. I can relate. I used to be absolutely terrified of rollercoasters when i was younger. I skipped my middle school trip due to this fact. I didn't really get passed it until my friends forced me onto Batman at Six Flags STL. I was terrified until the first drop then it was completely amazing. I suggest finding a coaster at your home park that looks intimidating, but really isnt that bad. Batman is really nice for that reason. I would honestly suggest a steel coaster or a GCI woodie if you have the option since they are generally smoother then other wooden coasters. I hope it works out. Its fun to help people expand ,their horizons
  12. One of my more epic days of going to theme parks, we started the day at Kings Island and were there until about One PM. After finishing up the day there, we drove four and a half hours to cedar point. After getting a hotel we went to the park, got a couple rides in and like twenty minutes before the park closed we got in line for Millennium Force. The line was going crazy fast and right when we got to the fly by on the line, the ride gets stuck on the lift hill. We wait like fifteen minutes because someone tried to take off their restraint on the lift hill. When the ride came back everyone knew what happened and there was like 15 people shouting "Point him out" and when the security guard came we joked that it was entirely for his protection -We rode the ride like 20 minutes after close and it was the most satisfying ride on a coaster ever
  13. Cedar Point -Iron Dragon- It was down a lot when we were there. When we finally finished getting all the important credits there was a two hour line. Ill be going back so ill get it then. -Wild Cat- Long line, not a huge fan of rides like that, so we skipped it. Kings Island -Son of Beast- I dont know if this counts since it was closed all of last season, but it counts to me.
  14. Blue Streak is great. Its an old classic coaster. Mean Streak isnt a terrible ride. A lot of people say its too rough, but i feel that its not as bad as The Boss, which i still think is a great ride. Now that i think about it a GCI woodie would probably be best over where DT is
  15. Agreed. Blue Streak is a classic and the Mean Streak is a decent ride, but neither really stands out. Id love to see either a GCI woodie or maybe some Intamin Pre-fab. I wouldnt mind seeing DT go. I think the theming for that ride is great, but the ride itself is lacking.
  16. I can imagine it would be rather difficult. Its an enjoyable ride, but from a pragmatic standpoint it makes a lot of sense. That ride takes a long time to load, unload and was the only ride on sunday that we had to wait in line for. Overall the park seems to be getting bigger and if it stays as nice as it is now, Ill go there at least a couple times a year.
  17. I think ive seen pictures of the tombstone last year, but if i remember it was quite different. In the picture it was a closed coffin chained down with the caption "to my beloved son." This year from the picture, it looked like they were trying to make a statement. Im doubtful SOB will be opened, im not entirely sure it can be opened again. I really want to ride that ride, so there could be some bias on my part.
  18. I think this will be a great addition to the park. Im a little bit sad to see The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere go, but this is really cool. My home park, Six Flags St Louis, has a full sized Starflyer and its pretty good. Personally im more excited about the prospect of HW getting a steel coaster. Id love to see some sort of massive Intamin coaster, but i think anything they put up will be amazing. I was at the park on the 25th and it was still raining. I was a little shocked they kept running the coasters even though it was raining rather hard. For a lot of the rides my friends and I were the only people on the rides. During this time the Voyage was running almost unbearably rough. I think this was mostly due to the rain, since from my experience woodies run a bit rougher when wet. I think the timberliners will do wonders for this ride.
  19. The Voyage at Holiday World. It was so rainy and due to this the ride was so much rougher then usual Im not done for this season though. Probably going to go to Six Flags St Louis again. I want to make my last ride of the season either the Boss or Mr. Freeze
  20. Six Flags St Louis- I went there way too many times to count this year Kings Island- I really enjoyed the park and will probably go next year Cedar Point- Truly an amazing Park. Disney World Orlando Florida- Fun park, long lines Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure- The Hulk was amazing, I was dumbfounded by the short lines to the dragon challenge. Holiday World- All of the coasters are great, the legend was my immediate favorite Worlds of Fun- Prowler was fun, I liked Mamba due to its airtime Next Year Six Flags St Louis Holiday Worlds Worlds of fun Kings Island Cedar Point Busch Gardens Virginia Kings Dominion Hershey Park Six Flags Great Adventure Cant wait for the summer
  21. Firehawk- Its just so slow. I think we waited longer for this ride then everything else on the trip. The station attendents went very effective at directing people so there was chaos and confusion. Top Thrill Dragster- It was quite chaotic, but i can understand considering the volume of riders Boomerang- There was no queue line at all, so the station was a mess Invertigo- The metal barriers that come out when the ride is launched are rather ugly and out of place -I like all of the rides listed, besides the station/lines
