  1. I think it's lame how Cedar Fair is recycling the Knott's Halloween Haunt name.
  2. Yes, yes it would. Plus, most of the time they ask for a Driver's License for proof of Southern California residency anyway. You'd be stooped on the spot in embarassment. I'd go the Ralphs route.
  3. The fountains and the waterfalls are two separate things. We're talking about the waterfalls that haven't worked since construction began for Tatsu. 4 words: Thomas Town in 2008.
  4. ^ Good to hear things are improving, inch by inch. Literally. Maybe by 2089, Magic Mountain will look somewhat nice. Thinking about this park makes me ill.
  5. ^ There's a good reason why Great America is regarded as one of the best parks in the chain. That entire regime you mentioned in your post? Not applicable to Magic Mountain AT ALL. It's odd how some parks like Fiesta Texas and Great America can do a better job at shaping up quickly and staying that way while a good number of others just still stay in the gutter no matter what "improvements" are thrown at them.
  6. Because it never seems to work.Or is this the one that does. Magic Mountain's is the one that operates on a regular basis. The Great America one has been doing real well this season, though in the past it was rarely open at all. Over Georgia's has yet to open for more than 7 days this season.
  7. I was at the park yesterday for the first time since last December. I had an Xtreme Park last season and went enough times to see how horrible the park is. I went back yesterday in hopes of seeing how much has improved and how much of it is considerably notable. Yesterday halfway into the visit, I remembered why I stopped visiting Magic Mountain. Though all coasters were in two train operation, there was constant stacking and slow loading due to lack of efficiency of those working at the rides. The most ridiculous thing I saw all day was the 10 (yes, I counted TEN) ride operators in Scream!'s station, more than half of which were just standing around talking to each other, laughing, cracking jokes and chewing ice chips from paper cups. Only two of the 10 were checking restraints, which resulted in a TWO train operation STACKING multiple times. And the Flash Pass Sales Center. Four employees on duty, yet only one of the registers were being used. The other three employees just stood around pacing back and forth. I hardly think they were on their break either. A long line formed because of this and people were standing and waiting out in the hot blistering sun. Tatsu's queue misters weren't on, despite it being over 95-degrees out. The crew was exceptionally slow. Leisurely checked restraints causing for 5 minute dispatches. Only upside? They were using both stations with two trains, but that should already be a MUST, not a high point. The third train was just sitting in the transfer shed. Most significant changes I noticed would hardly be considered improvements, especially into the second year of new management. I did see more trash bins out, and hardly any litter on the midway. But it should have been like this YEARS ago...how much effort and management push does it take to get some more trash bins out? Not a lot. Costumed characters? Not any more than what I saw from last year. And the advertisements. Lots and lots of those. Not a change I'd categorize as a park improvement. Oh, and they only had one parking lot tram running all day -- despite the relatively large crowds waiting in the hot sun. My first and last visit to the park this year -- and probably next year too.
  8. Gotta love Universal Studio's FREE automated ride locker rental for the first hour and a half.
  9. Uhh. Ya, I'm quite aware of that. That wasn't the point.
  10. !!! I was thinking the same thing too...but it turns out it's not. PRESS RELEASE ARTIST RENDERING: COASTERS MURAL:
  11. I've been on Batman The Ride, Top Gun, Silver Bullet, and Raptor and never once did I feel like my feet were being "pulled out of my shoes" from the positive G's. I feel the G's in the seat, not in my feet. Though the discomfort you're describing isn't a bizarre or rare case, it's probably an indicator of something -- like what Wes said...such as high blood pressure or some other medical or physical issue.
  12. Nice photos and TR's. Honestly, did you or did you not made a visit to Laguna because of that MTV show? I know some people that were in the third season of that show and they've mentioned how much tourism (in a bad way-- increased traffic, etc.) and out-of-town lurkers has skyrocketed because of it.
  13. Six Flags Over Georgia had the exact same ceremony event on 7/7/07 with Goliath, Six Flags Great Adventure with El Toro, Six Flags Over Texas with Titan, and Six Flags Great America with Raging Bull. This one I'm not too sure, but I also think Six Flags New England with Superman Ride of Steel.
  14. Honestly, who carries an iPod with them onto a roller coaster?
  15. I completely disagree. I never understand why some people think so highly of the first generation Intamin drop rides. I personally think they are horrible. Painful (when you stop abrubtly with your back on against the track and facing the sky) and not as thrilling.
  16. Mark Shapiro has already confirmed that SFMM will get a Thomas The Tank area in 2008. Uh. Not according to the Quarter 1 Conference Call. He specifically said Magic Mountain will not pursue a Wiggles World or Thomas Town for the 2008 season.
  17. Not going to lie. Definitely one of the prettiest SLC's I've seen. Too bad it's in a park that is ugly as sin. That skyline is such an eyesore.
  18. ^ Have you been living under a rock? New management is shifting away from thrillrides and focusing on families and children.
  19. I have never been that excited while a trip report.
  20. Every Intamin drop tower (second generation and up) in America has been closed. The Drop Zone Stunt Tower rides at Kings Island, Canada's Wonderland, Carowinds, Kings Dominion, and Great America have been closed while the Kentucky Kingdom Superman incident is undergoing investigation. Six Flags America's Dungeon Drop, Six Flags Over Georgia's Acrophobia, Six Flags Great America's Giant Drop, and Six Flags St. Louis' Superman Tower of Power have been closed as well. In addition, all the Superman Tower of Power rides on the Six Flags website have had their pages removed. Story: Six Flags St. Louis closes drop ride. Rides closed after Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom accident.
  21. ^ Uh, that "netting" was used as a thematic prop for the ride's Drop Zone movie theme and was there well before Joshua Smurphat's fatality in 1999. It wasn't put there as a net to catch people if they were to fall.
  22. 1. Girl has both feet severed from a popped cable, but survives. 2. Boy falls 200-feet to the concrete path below and dies. I don't know if I could compare both. The Great America incident was a lot worse. I mean, his own mother saw him fall from the top of the tower and splatter on the midway!
  23. They probably will end up paying for all of her medical related expenses, but not from selling off the ride. Superman Tower of Power WILL reopen after the investigation is complete and the ride is cleared for reopening.
  24. I am honestly in disbelief. Thomas Town at SFDK turned out much more detailed than I could have ever imagined it would be. I'm surprised this was built at a Six Flags park! Everything looks so well built and thought out. After seeing these photographs, I'm really anxious to see whether Magic Mountain will follow suit within the next few years. It's about time we got a railroad back into the park.
