Alton Towers Discussion Thread
Norwegian coasterfan replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So I was thinking of going to Alton Towers in March as I have never been there before But then I checked the opening times... Only open from 10:00 to 16:00 and closed on Wednesdays So I have decided to go back to Efteling instead... This place really seems to be going downhill. Closing a theme park at 16:00 Is just ridiculous to me, and must be putting people (including me), off from visiting and rather go somewhere else -
So I have finally been to Disneyland Paris and I wanted to share my opinions. I stayed on-site at Newport Bay and thought the Hotel was beautiful, also very friendly staff! Walt Disney Studio’s definately need more attractions, but this is coming so no worries there. What they have now is good, especially Tower of terror, loved it! Rock’n rollercoaster was good and a lot smoother than I expected it to be, did not bang my head once! These past months I have been fortunate enough to visit both Disneyland Shanghai and Hong Kong because of work. They have some really awesome rides however Disneyland Parc in Paris ended up beeing my favourite park overall. I think all the rides they have range from good to great, from the supercreepy snow white, to Peter Pan, really good Pirates of the caribbean and the fantastic and FAST Big Thunder mountain. But my favorite ride was Hyperspace Mountain. I love the look of the mountain itself as well as the queue and station, the new trains are comfortable and makes what I assume was a rather rough and painful ride into an awesome and intense coaster with a very interesting layout! However I hope that when the Star Wars overlay is over that they return to the original theme as i could see that fitting better than Mission 2 Overall I loved the resort and can’t wait to go back

I rode the new Eurosat today and I wanted to share my experience. The new queueline and station is beautiful and much more spacious than before. The new trains are very comfortable and there seems to be a bit more room than before. The new track is much smoother than before and the new elements are great! The onboard soundtrack fits the ride perfectly and I love that they included a new version of the old one However the soundtrack only worked one time out of the five times I rode it today... And all the effects after the lift was turned off. Apparently the park have done this because of the huge backlash they have gotten for the theming, the project team have been personally abused on social media! I hope they find a solution soon because the ride has great potential

Queue toilets for very long waits
Norwegian coasterfan replied to Samuel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wodan at Europa Park have toilets and a drink shop halfway through the queue so it's certainly possible to have it -
SLC'S?
Norwegian coasterfan replied to coaster_type_of_person's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Well I guess I can’t go to Europa park anymore then Now SLC’s, I have only ridden one and that is Limit at Heide Park, definately one of the worst coasters I have been on. The layout is great though, but it ran terrible -

I don't think this will affect Vekoma and their products in any way. I would like to compare this to the shipyard industry: Sansei in this case probably is the same as Fincantieri is to the shipyard industry. Fincantieri own many shipyards around the world. Many years ago Fincantieri bought Brattvaag shipyard in Ålesund, Norway. It is now called Vard Brattvåg (Vard is a company in the Fincantieri group). This did not affect the way this shipyard is run and it continued as normal, I guess it's the same with Vekoma here

Who can see this?
Norwegian coasterfan replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can see it -
You'll notice though that it doesn't seem to be stopping at the top but just rolling down the ramp into the drop. Could be why it's going so fast. Wonder why they are doing that? I wonder how much that has an effect on the overall speed of the ride. Once the brake releases, it doesn’t completely fall after that. Part of the train is still in contact with the magnetic system, so part of me thinks whether they completely stop the train or not, the difference in speed is negligible or nonexistent. I’m happy with the speed it’s running at now. Everything after the overbank/cutback actually looks pretty forceful. Pretty sure it will work the same way Kärnans freefall works only forwards. The magnetic brakes will slow the train down, then the holding brake will hold the train while the magnets retract and it will then freefall down the drop

^ Thank god they are renovating Thundercoaster! It was awful the last time I rode it Hopefully it will be amazing again -
Hurtigruten's new expedition ship MS Roald Amundsen was launched today. The maiden voyage is scheduled to be in October this year. This will be the first expedition ship able to sail using only electricity over short distances. Since it is a hybrid ship it will reduce fuel consumption with up to 20% of what normal ships use. Source (In Norwegian) Source 2 This is what it will look like when finished

Go to Hansa Park instead, it’s way better and Kärnan is amazing That it is! I went there last September, actually. There were probably less than 50 people in the park, no joke, and we rode Kärnan roughly 15 times I had the same experience two years ago, it was absolutely dead -
