  1. My park peeve are people who are waiting in line standing or sitting on the railing, especially little kids who walk with both feet on the railing. The railings were there so huge lines of riders can be condensed into a small square space and these people like to treat those railings as playthings. If the attendants catches you standing or sitting on the railings, all they can do is say (in a calm voice) "Please, no sitting on the rails". Just for once I would love to hear an attendant say (in a threating tone), "HEY YOU, IN THE UGLY SHIRT, GET YOUR SMELLY BUTT OFF THE RAILS AND STAND IN LINE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE OR WE'LL KICK YOUR BUTT OUT OF THE PARK!!! Until such a rule is in place, I guess I'll have to live with this pet peeve. "To all those who sit on top of the handrails, I hope you all fall off and break your necks!!!"
  2. Yes, it's me again that went searching through the long lost threads that haven't received any recent posts and found this beauty. "One of these days, palmerleeberry, you're gonna have to quit this and write an original post!" Hmm, maybe I will, but for now I'll bring this back up so it can get a few more posts. I'm a roller coaster fan because I like the rush of the trains, the screams and cheers of the riders, and the fact that all I have to do is sit down without needing to do anything else (except to let out a "WA-HOO!!!"). I love coasters of all types and will ride anything that has tracks. By the way, do you all know what I call a roller coaster that has a lift hill of 100 feet, made of wood, and is an out-and-back? "Er, Uncle?" No, I call it a baby coaster in my book. But I'll still ride it anyway, cos that's the way I am!!! "WA-HOO!!!"
  3. That first photo showing six people riding on one of the cars of the Wild Mouse caused me to do this: No way in the USA would any park load a Wild Mouse car like that when the thing is only designed for only four (4) riders!!! But this is in Egypt and not in the USA where such rules are laxed. But I'm sure the operator knew what he was doing (those riders were loaded in so tightly he'll need a crowbar to pry them out). I'm still !!!
  4. Saw your photos and I definately cannot wait until late summer when I take a few friends with me to Kings Island and ride the DIAMONDBACK. Of course, the pictures also showed how everything isn't beautified yet with the construction still yet to be completed and how glooming the whole area looks with heavy overcast. Yep, the construction phrase makes everything look ugly. But just wait until the construction has been completed, the season changes, the weather starts getting warmer, and the bright yellow sun comes out to play, and that ride is going to look awesome!!! "Carowinds is getting the Carolina Cobra and Kings Island is getting the Diamondback. Why isn't Kings Dominion getting their own coaster named after a snake?" "Kings Dominion at one time did have their own snake-themed coaster called the King Kobra. But because the coaster broke down a lot, they had to take the ride out because it was "hissing" riders off when it broke down. "Aww, kiss my !!! "Hey, that's my line. You own me a royality, like your soul!!!
  5. "Holy (enter your favorite expression here)!!! Somebody bought Hard Rock Park and they are going to try and open the park up this Memorial Weekend?" That was my expression when I logged onto Screamscape.com and saw on its opening line that a buyer for Hard Rock Park has been found. I am tickled to death (Or as they say in Zimbabwe in a translation: "I itched and itched and then I died") by this exciting news. I don't have any plans to revisit this park this year (like I did last year), but I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best that the new owners can keep this park running better and much longer than the previous owners. "Let's keep this park Rocking in the Free World!!!"
  6. I FOUND ANOTHER TOPIC THAT NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT BACK AND DISCUSSED ONCE AGAIN!!! Well, it would be four years this coming May if someone like yours truly wasn't scrolling through the vast seas of topics old and past didn't come across something like this topic that was thought worthy of saving. "Huh?" Never mind. I'll just add my input and keep this topic afresh and alive. "Then why didn't you say so?" (sigh) I don't usually have a preferance on where I sit on a coaster train, so if it's a coaster that I've ridden many times, then I try to sit at least once in a different row. Awaiting lines in lanes also would be a deciding factor on which row I want to ride in. Finally, on the Boomerang Coaster, I would always ride in the back seat (back seat's more fun).
  7. "Okay, cue in the violin music" Many years ago, I stood in line to ride this new ride at Kings Island called "Scooby Doo's Roller Ghoster" in which you have one or two riders ride on these motorcycle bike-like cars, have an elevator lift your bike up about fifty feet in the air, and you ride, suspended, all the way down back to the station. I wanted for over an hour because I thought this ride looked cool and thrilling. When I finally got on and rode it, I was never so disappointed in all my roller coaster life. The ride was so lame, it wouldn't scare a sick duck! And the long waiting time to ride a lamer thirty second ride made the whole experience ever worser. When Cedar Fair took over and took this ride out, I didn't blame them one bit. "The former Scooby Doo's Roller Coaster at King's Island - May you rust in pieces!!! HA HA HA HA HA!!!
  8. For me, it is obvious - KINGS DOMINION!!! Two reasons: 1) it's my favorite park and 2) I need to be there to process my Cedar Fair Platinum Pass so I can travel to all the other Cedar Fair parks (two of them I never been to before). After I get my pass processed and I'm all good for the 2009 season, I will then head inside the park and ride my first coaster of the season THE DOMINATOR!!!
  9. Okay, Okay, and OKAY!!! I've been scrolling through pages of pages of posts and I really failed to see what's so bad about Dorney Park renaming a coaster from VOODOO to POSSESSED. The latter sounds more threatening of a name - think you can handle it when the spirits move you in new and exciting directions? The new name sounds more menacing as a coaster name. As for me, I am possessed to travel up to Dorney Park this summer and ride it several times. Besides, Voodoo is really a religion. Do you think anyone would want to ride a coaster called "Muslim", "Hindu", or "Catholic"? "Hey, what about me? I've got a religion too, you know." "Oh sure. Riders always find religion whenever they ride a coaster. Whenever riders go down that first hill, they always scream out 'OH MY GOD'! I never heard any of them scream out 'OH MY DEVIL'!" "Aww . . . kiss my !!!
  10. The Alex asked: Maybe the people putting in this ride haven't had a chance to paint this coaster yet? I'm sure the faded red tracks with blue support will be getting a fresh coat of paint. I'm think dark green tracks with light green supports so this coaster would look like a coaster. With my Cedar Fair Platinum Pass, I definitely will travel down to Carowinds to try and tame the Carolina Cobra. I've ridden many boomerang coasters, so it's interesting to feel the new trains in action.
  11. First of all, I'm not going to say anything negative about Six Flags America, but during the past few years I had high hopes that this park will get off its knees and be a serious park to park-goers and thrill seekers alike. Sadly, each and every year I get disappointed and what's been happening to poor Six Flags America. Instead of having new rides debuting in each new season, Six Flags America has been going in the opposite direction and removing rides without adding any replacements. So when I heard of Six Flags America's new addition, my eyes popped out with high hopes of maybe something exciting will finally appear at the park and get this park back on its feet. But when the announcement wasn't any new rides, just new shows and entertainment, I was (use your favorite expression here) off! Is this the new improvement: brand new shows? As a protest, I've decided to boycot not just Six Flags America, but all Six Flags theme parks in general. I do this because I feel that Six Flags in general have been treating Six Flags America like a bastard child. This season (2009) I plan to visit all Cedar Fair parks (especially KIngs Dominion, my home park), plus any other smaller parks (such as Knoebels, Holiday World, and Indiana Beach), but no visits to any Six Flags Park; and I'll continue this boycot until Six Flags America gets the love it desperately needs. "No regular signature for this post: just me looking mad!!!"
  12. It's always a great day when a ride that was closed down in one park will be moved to another park. I didn't get to ride the Golden Nugget last time I was at Morey's Piers and I won't get to ride it this year when I revisit Knoebels later this year. But I hope things will work out for the better for Knoebels and their newest purchase. Still, I do hope I get a turn or two on the Flying Turns.
  13. NOTICE: IT'S BEEN NEARLY FOUR YEARS SINCE THIS TOPIC GOT ITS LAST POST AND SINCE MY LAST TOPIC THAT I'VE FOUND ( "Worst Theme ride")WAS SUCH A SUCCESS, I'M DOING IT AGAIN! "Two reasons I do this: to bring back last and forgotten post that are worthy of a repeat and no worries on having this post closed since it has been on themeparkreview all this time." There have been a few coasters I've ridden in the past that are no longer operating. KINGS DOMINION - Hypersonic XLC, King Kobra and Galaxi BUSCH GARDENS WILLIAMSBURG - Glissade, Wild Maus, and Drachen Fire (although I don't think anyone has ever missed this headbanger) LAKESIDE - Shooting Star (the park is no longer there) KNOEBELS - Whirlwind I cannot think of any coasters that should be demolished, because I like them all.
  14. NOTICE - IT'S BEEN NEARLY FOUR YEARS SINCE THIS TOPIC GOT IT'S LAST POSTING. AS A FAVOR (and since I can't think of any new topics to bring to the forum) I'M BRINGING IT BACK!!! "Yipee, I'm back! Didja miss me?" As for the ride that has the worst themeing, I have to go with The Typhoon Sea Coaster at Six Flags America. This ride could've been an excellent flume ride that fits nicely with Skull Island, but they made it a ride through with boring scenery that you'll be lucky to see if it was lit. Plus the fact that ride isn't running as often as it should puts this ride low on my "must ride or die" list. "If the Typhoon Sea Coaster is that bad of a ride, then I should have it in my park. Since there's no water in H, E, (double hockey sticks), I can make it much worser than ever. Kiss my on that!!!"
  15. It is always interesting to see a park in the off season and in the wintertime. As for a picture of those coaster trains just sitting in the hotel parking lot and covered with snow : "THAT IS NO WAY TO TREAT COASTER CARS LIKE THAT!!!" Those poor coaster cars should have been stored inside a shed or at least covered up to protect itself from the harsh elements. "You know, I've never imagined that parks would take its coaster cars off the tracks during the off season" Oh yes, they do that for maintenance reasons, although I cannot understand why they were sitting in the hotel parking lot. Maybe they were being spruced up on a clear day, then the snow came and the trains had to be lefted there until the snow goes away? I don't care as long as those coaster cars are back on the coaster track by the time I get to Cedar Point this summer.
  16. All right, It's time for my favorite drops on a steel coaster. 1) Dominator at Kings Dominion - SWEET!!! 2) The Ricochet at Kings Dominion - "A Mad Mouse coaster? You gotta be MAD!!!" Still, this coaster is a steel coaster and it's one of the few Mad Mouse coasters out there that begins with a fifty-foot drop before you reach the series of hairpin turns. 3) Millennium Force at Cedar Point - 300 feet down and plenty of time to scream. And finally, any old Boomerang coaster: sit in the back seat and enjoy the sweet air time as the train is released.
  17. My home park is and will always be KINGS DOMINION and it was the super launch coaster XLC HYPERSONIC until Cedar Fair bought the chain, declared that the Hypersonic didn't fit in with their park, and took it out. I felt the same way back in 1986 when the Galaxi was taken out. So with that coaster out, the favorite coaster in King Dominion is the launch coaster Volcano. Pardon the pun, but that coaster is a real blast!!!
  18. Although I'm sadden that High Speed Thrill Coaster is on its way out, I'm hoping that the Flying Turns will be up and running. And if Golden Nugget is coming to Knoebels (a very big IF), I'll finally have a chance to ride it (last time I was in Morey's Piers, that ride was closed). By the way, I'm not affected much by the increase in the ticket prices for some of the rides cos I'll be purchasing a wrist band.
  19. I didn't get a chance to go to Hersheypark until 1990, so seeing these artifacts were very interesting. If a park was announcing that they were adding an enterprise and a rocking boat attraction, people today wouldn't be that thrilled. But in 1980, that was a BIG DEAL!!! Pirate is still there, but Cyclops is gone, taken over by some attraction they call "The Claw". In 1990, they would have added the "Western Chute-out" and a Rapids Ride (that got you soaked whether you wanted it or not). Now, both of those attractions are gone. On my revisit to Hersheypark in 1993, they added a new coaster called "Sidewinder" and a shoot the chutes ride called "Tidal Wave". Both of these attractions are still in the park. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, even for those who couldn't be there at that time.
  20. robbalvey wrote: Holy (enter your favorite expression here), I guess that's why the other parks in the Myrtle Beach area have managed to survived for this long. I was there on vacation in mid July and I visited Hard Rock Park and wondered where in the (enter another favorite expression here) were the crowds. All the rides were walk up to them and ride. But I went there on a Monday, so I didn't think much about it - I just got on and rode the rides. However, when visiting other parks (such as Family Kingdom and the new Pavilion Nostalgic park located in Broadway at the Beach), I saw those places were crowded (I mean - tons of people)! So here's a question to ponder: why was Hard Rock Park, that had all these neat rides, didn't have the crowds while the other small parks, that didn't offer much in new rides, were swamped with people? I think robbalvey may have answered that question for me If you forgot what he said, then scroll up to the beginning of this post. Such a pity. I remember another park that was located south of Myrtle Beach that was called "Magic Harbor". That park is no more. No signature on this post - I'm too (gasp!) choked up.
  21. Years ago, there was some talk about tearing out the inside of Monster Plantation and turning it into another Scooby Doo laser shoot attraction. Whew!!! I'm glad that didn't happened But if such a thing ever did happen, at least I had an idea on how to salvage the parts of Monster Plantation to be used in another park - as a special indoor log flume ride. But such an idea will never come true because Six Flags of Georgia decided to renovate this one-of-a-kind attraction. Maybe another park might do their own version of Monster Plantation using log flumes instead of the normal boats.
  22. Goliath513 wrote: I don't know where you heard that, but I can assure you that statement is totally untrue. I should know that fact for I've visited that park six times this season and each and every visit was a pure joy. The cast members and crew of Kings Dominion handled themselves beautifully during my visits, as they kept their rides running and the park in tip-top condition. Perhaps that statement was directed to a certain Six Flags park that is located in Maryland; I know their operation at that park is terrible. Now, as for MixedDrink's query on what to ride and in what order when visiting Kings Island and Cedar Point, this is my game plan: First, get to the park early and ride the newest coaster first since that is where the longest line will be as the day goes on. Also, ride the coasters that has the least seats per coaster train early in the day (For example, Coaster A runs two trains with sixteen seats per train as Coaster B can run two trains with thirty-two seats per train. Provided that each coaster has the same number of people in line, coaster B would dispense its riders quicker than Coaster A because coaster B can hold more riders, thus get rid of its awaiting riders in half of the time from Coaster A. "That is what happened during one my visits to Kings Dominion. The Volcano (Coaster A) had a wait time of 40 minutes while the Dominator (Coaster B) was a walk up and ride when I got on during the afternoon." As for water attractions, getting on them early in the day, later in the evening, or on days when the skies are gloomy would offer the shortest line. As for the other rides, depending if the park isn't too crowded, all the other rides should be walk up and ride (or least wait a few minutes).
  23. redfoot12 asked if whether or not someone got decapitated on the KD Galaxi? While it's true that someone died while riding the Galaxi, the poor kid wasn't decapitated. He stood up during the ride and hit his head against one the low beams. Also worth noting: this ride didn't have any restraints (a rarity by today's standards) and if the ride had them, then the kid wouldn't have been tempted to stand up during the ride instead of following the safety rules to remain seated.
  24. "What, you all got to take a walking tour of the Curse of Darkastle?I'm so green with envy! However, my friend and I had the chance of a lifetime to ride Skull Mountain at Six Flags Great Adventure twice: one time with the lights on and the second time with the lights off. This was several years ago during their coaster celebration (with their newest coaster El Toro and their tallest and fastest coaster on the planet Kinda Ka) and they offered two ERT: one in the morning and the second near midnight. Because nearly everyone were taken turns on El Toro (and shouting "Oley" everytime a train despatches from the station), my friend and I were riding the other coasters that were all walk up and ride. When we got to go on Skull Mountain, we were the only riders there. So the operators asked us if we were like to ride this ride twice: one with the lights on so we can see what's inside and the second time in the dark. We agreed and we both felt like VIP's after the rides were over. As for Kings Dominion (my favorite and nearest park) I've been there five times this season and hope to make it #6 this Labor Day.
  25. The roller coaster with the best tunnel has to be the Loch Ness Monster located in Busch Gardens Europe in Williamsburg, VA. When your train enters its mysterious cave and you travel in helix after helix, you wonder how much more you need to go before you meet face to face with Nessie and finally the second lift hill that will take you to the second loop and the return to the station. To me, no trip to Busch Gardens Europe is ever complete with a trip on old Nessie.
