Are these trains 4 rows long? -
I think there are multiple things that make for a good B&M. Forcefulness is important, but many new B&Ms are forceful while still feeling less thrilling and interesting. I think what is important is not only how forceful a maneuver is, but the sense or fear that an element is being taken much faster than it should be. Basically fast pacing, which defines rides such as the batman clones or montu. All older B&Ms may seem to take their elements so much more quickly than newer ones, which they do to an extent. But not only are they just MOVING faster, the transitions are much faster and have more a precise and deliberate feel to them. Just look at the difference between the Cobra Roll on alpengeist and the one on silver bullet for example, alpengiest flies in and out of it, and there is just a tension and precision about the way it moves through the element. On the other hand SB doesnt move quite as fast through its cobra roll, and the shaping is much looser and curvier, like it was built around having the smoothest possible transitions. Also Every change in force on an older B&M is quick enough to catch you off guard, and you can feel the contrast from when it is doing something forceful from when it isnt. Instead of easing into a turn or any force, it will slam into it out of nowhere. I mean newer B&Ms have plenty of forces but you would never know because of how long it takes to ease into that force or transition. The best b&ms are the ones that tread the fine line between snappiness while maintaining rider comfort. It seems that every new b&M is comfort oriented as opposed to pacing oriented. To provide some examples- Cobra roll- Tight Loose Corkscrew into turn- Precise Fluid First drop Good Bad Other examples Abrupt changes in forces and direction Slow boring "forceless" turning and transitions EDIT: The easiest way for you to see what I mean about all this is to compare the kumba pov from tpr to a pov of led zeppelin the ride.

Poll: Favorite Inversion?
CPmillenia94 replied to timetrial3141592's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After the insanityi have experienced on hulk, dueling dragons, kraken, bizarro, dominator, kumba, goliath, raptor, and especially alpengeist, I can safely conclude that the cobra roll is the most intense and amazing element. Of course there are also some very lame and uncomfortable instances (hydra/any vekoma). A good cobra roll is only surpassed by storm runners flying snake dive (many people fail to realize that there is a constant out of your seat airtime all the way from the hill entering to the dive out of it). Edit: montus batwing deserves an honorable mention that thing is insane -
New B&M trains on Steel Dragon
CPmillenia94 replied to Trevor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I agree I would much prefer morgan trains to B&M they are so roomy and comfortable. the lapbars are so minimal! -
I would much rather have an intense forward launch than a crappy pointless backwards launch. Maybe if they slowed it down, backed it up to the beginning of the launch track, and then launched it from there. I just hate all the pointless launches on coasters lately. Intamin is doing the same thing, are there even any plans to build a hydraulic launch in the next couple years?

Least favorite coaster element.

^Thats like the best thing on Anaconda, so bizarre how each corkscrew has so much hangtime. -
Intermountain Lift, Inc., Premier Ride's Upright and Track Fabricator, has been building dual pipe spines since Speed: The Ride was fabricated in 1999/2000, so it's not really "new". rcdb.com/593.htm?p=4336 -Sid I knew that they used the double spine before, but I was more referencing the random changes between the triangular ties with the bar connecting the rails, and the traditional flat ties. like this- vs this- I feel like it would be so much more tedious to place 3 bars connecting the rails than one flat piece. It just strange that they dont commit fully to either tie..

I just went on it a couple weeks ago and It vibrated a bunch in like an exaggerated boulder dash kinda way but I wouldn't say that its "rough". It doesn't slam you around or jackhammer at all. Its also worth noting that I rode it in the very back which theoretically should be roughest. I do hope they decide to keep it because I thought it was a very fun ride with some very unique elements. I regret not it more than a couple times! (dammit montu why do you have to be so much better than everything else)

Sheikra vs. Griffon
CPmillenia94 replied to GigaG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sheikra was a more intense, had better first and second drops, and better themeing (love the tunnel). Griffon has one extra inversion and a decent airtime hill. I rode Griffon first, and could not imagine Sheikra being as good, but was very suprised when I rode it and found it to be equal if not better. I think the two MAIN things about sheikra that I really prefer are the quicker release and better airtime on the drop, and the insane turn after the first element. The turn into the midbrake on griffon is kind forceless and boring in comparison. I would say they are about equal, but I would personally prefer to ride sheikra if I had the choice between the two. -
I find it interesting how premier is switching between their new style track and ties (similar to intamin double spine) and their old track and ties (seen on FOF and Mr. Freeze. I saw the same thing on a couple spots on S:UF. Personally I dont mind because I always found the track on their classic rides to be really nice looking. Does anyone understand what I'm talking about? Any theories?
