  1. It is incredible how big a differemce there is between the empty and the full train over those hills! This rise has some potentially serious airtime.
  2. Yeah the launch on mr freeze is pretty force less, but this should be very fun because of how extended it is. You won't know when you going to pull up into that first element. Should catch people by surprise. Also the seats are very deep so there should mostly be force from the front of the seat under your thighs and the lap bars are very high and support ur chest. Can't wait to see how this turns out!
  3. I agree about the OTSRs being thigh killers, but mostly on maverick imo. On other coasters They didn't budge and stayed decently unstapled like on stormrunner, fahrenheit, and intimidator to name a few.
  4. I personally like this truss style better. Its cleaner looking and i love how its seamless with the support styles. It will be really cool looking where it connects because it will look like the track is a continuation of the supports in yellow.
  5. A stengel dive consists an overbanked section of track that is nearly straight on the way in, and starts turning on the way out. so like an airtime hill that is banked past 90 degrees. This is definately a stengel dive.
  6. They arent going to have a splashdown there. The speed of the train ripping through water that quickly would be unsafe. Its just too early in the ride. I think that its a trench or a tunnel.
  7. Nice trip report! I remember riding twister during the phoenix phall phunfest last year and it was running really insane according to some other people. I thought it was as good as phoenix. Damn does that ride have intense lats! And you cant forget about the unusually steep first couple drops! Really underrated ride IMO. Anyone else agree?
  8. Really was a great event robb, a good first impression on the world of tpr for me, considering it was my first. Then again this is the guy who has spent the last two years of park events with ACE. To me the difference between the energy and the people at tpr vs ace events is totally night and day. And you picked a great day to do it because bizarro was running the best i have ever ridden it post-transformation. Everything went great and i had a great time so i would say it was a very successful TPR invasion.
  9. Actually i shouldnt be talking anyways. The last time i rode RRR 2 yrs ago was the only time lol. But yes jumboshrmp the timberliners are great in just about every way. Edit: BTW Robb with all these great hd videos you are and have been filming, are you planning on compiling them into a new blu-ray disc any time soon? Also this is probs the best pov of boulderdash out there right now. A good one was much needed.
  10. I really remember the restraints feeling kind of awkward if not a bit uncomfortable on RRR, which they are not at all on the timberliners. But yeah a u said it really doesnt matter when you are riding because everything else is so great haha. And yeah boulder dash is running pretty well this year. I only got one ride on it when i went it was so crowded though, a crowded day at LC is pretty painful.
  11. Nothing like RRRs restraints. They are very roomy and comfortable, and no matter how tight they are they still somehow fit perfectly on your lap, and you still feel the airtime. Although that may have something to do with the fact that every hill has what i would call solid ejector.
  12. I could ride wooden warrior all day long. The videos really don't do the ride justice. Its sooo kick ass. The trains are better than i ever could imagine also.
  13. I used to have KD as my home park and had many great memories throughout my childhood visiting this park. I liked it back when it was paramount, and now much more with the changes CF made to the park. I'm visiting Virginia on vacation with my family, and we planned a trip to BGE sunday and KD tuesday. BGE was nice and very empty, it was a beautiful day in a beautiful park, but i was not nearly as impressed with the park as i used to be. Some of the changes were very strange to me, but i wont go too much into that. KD on the other hand i was VERY impressed with in every way. When I got to the park i instantly noticed how great the skyline looked. Hypersonic was gone which looked a bit strange, but Dominator and Intimidator looked great, and i would never would have guessed dominator used to be on a parking lot. Im excited to see how dominator's area fills in with foliage and landscaping over the next few years. As for my day, there was a heat advisory, and there were large crowds. But the park did there job and made sure everybody was staying hydrated by warnings over the speaker systems all throughout the parks. And even the ride ops told people where to go for the nearest waterfountain or indoor attractions and restaurants. Even just random park staff would say hi and be friendly just walking by and asked us if we were staying hydrated and cool. Now to the rides. The operations were incredible on volcano. The line was long even early in the day when we got there, and i almost didnt wait, but my brother had not ridden it yet and wanted to. They ran 2 trains the whole day though, and to my surprise, the line did not stop moving once. Then fof was just as good. 2 trains, and they had a great system of letting in enough people for 4 people per row into the loading area, then cutting off the line, so the station stayed open and uncrowded, and the line seemed to move very far with each interval. I only waited about 15 mins for volcano, and 10 mins for fof. All of the rides i went to had just as good operations, and not once on any ride did i get stapled on a ride. Tuesday was also my first time riding I305. Robb was so right when he said that Intimidator craps all over MF. My brother wouldnt ride it again because it was too intense, but i rode it 5 times that day. I would have liked to ride more but it was hot and i had a dad and sister and brother to think about. Too bad because for some reason it was nearly walk on all day with one train. Anyways, the drop. That ride has the best first drop on any coaster i have ever rode. Better than el toro, and ntag combined. And imo even a bit better than MF. WOW. Then the whole ride has incredible airtime that beats sros sfne imo, and normal/transitional lats mixed with airtime is just the best thing ever to me. Each of the twists was like its own inversion to me, and there is nothing in the world that compares to the feeling of flying through those twists. They totaly caught me off gaurd. Then there are the same insane turbulent gforces that make me love Titan at SFOT everywhere on this ride. Every part of this ride is just completely out of controll, and the restraints (which need to be put on maverick) made every last twist comfortable and enjoyable. Best coaster i have ever ridden. Great job kd and intamin. Now all they need is to cut down on the trims mid ride. Theres already ejector there with them, i cant imagine having even more speed there. Its nice and shiny too, which is always a plus. Intimidator was a huge score by CF, and now they just need to continue beautifying the park (which its already pretty gorgeous from what they have already done) and it would be perfect. BTW i forgot how much i loved Volcanos launch and barrel rolls, and the themeing quality of fof. Two great rides. And drop zone is great too. Hurler is definately riding better than my last trip to the park like 4 yrs ago, so something was totaly done right there. Dominator rode great and despite all the talk of it being rough, the front row was very smooth imo and was a very great ride. Just needs some airtime. Overall, the park is beautiful, and better than ever with I305. I really am hoping to visit again soon. Keep up the good work KD! Intimidator- 5 Volcano- 1 Flight of Fear- 1 Hurler- 1 Drop Tower- 2 Ricochet- 2 Dominator- 1 Boo Blasters- 2 Taxi jam- 1 Treasure cave- 3 Waterslides- 3 Dunk bucket- 4 Log flume- 1 Vintage cars- 2 I would have liked to hit shockwave, rebel yell, grizzly, backlot stunt coaster, the crypt, avalanche, more slides, and more rides on FOF and Volcano, but whatever thats life.
  14. How would the strength of the launches compare to other intamins?
  15. That looks faster on some parts and slower on others. They must be still tweaking.
  16. Yeah well guess what. Superman is my #1, bizarro sucks. The trains track awfully, and the audio sucks. They ruin the ride, and make it rough, and the restraints kill. The reason it still makes it is because people are rating because they know the rides potential from riding it as superman. The end.
  17. Well I got up today and headed out with my bud to Quassy for the first time today ACE's Wooden Warrior Day. We got there and went straight to ERT on Wooden Warrior. It didn't look particularly impressive, and I didn't expect much from the ride. I was mostly interested in trying out the trains. Anyways, after waiting a train or two I took my first ride on the coaster. I was overall very impressed by the coaster, but I will get to that later. We went back for more rides throughout ERT, but the line was getting longer and longer, to the point where we were waiting more than 15-20 mins for each ride. But each time, it was more worth it than the last. The ride really began picking up the pace, and got better throughout the ERT and kept on getting better throughout the day. What was disappointing was that as ERT ended and the park opened to the public, that we realized the ERT was basically useless, because the line was next to nothing for the entire day. We were able to get over 25 rides on the ride in the front back and middle. Mid day it literally out of nowhere poured rain for like a minute before we rode, making the ride run even MORE out of controll. Now to the ride.. The trains were REALLY nice. I was impressed by how well they tracked, how comfortable but unrestrictive the harnesses were and seats. It was very open. They were well designed for lats, airtime, and forces. They didnt run as glassy as a Millenium flyer, but they just tracked so well, and are perfect for small rides, and would be even better on large rides. Unfortunately though, there was only one of them on Wooden Warrior. The coaster was OUTSTANDING for its size. It had a fast lift, the first turn even had some nice lats, then the first drop was simply out of controll in the back rows, with ejector airtime coming right out of the lats (strangely similar to el toro). It felt very steep, and even gave my stomach a drop on the first few near the back, and even middle, rides. Its even a good drop in the front. Then you blast into the next hill full speed and get a very fun pop of ejector, then swiftly curve into a unusually long floater hill, as it dives down further than it goes up due to the terrain. Then the transition hill right after has lats on the way in, a solid moment of semi ejector, and then you blast into the blackness of the tunnel with lats in the other direction, and lots of g-force. The tunnel definitely adds to that turn. The hill on the way out is the last full hill, and has good airtime once again, and then there is the double up. In the front this has some really nice air, and in back.. well.. it still has pretty good air. Surprisingly. Its just another moment of airtime. Then still with a considerable amount of speed left to spare, it hits a small lat filled hill/turn thing that has nice lats, then a nice pop of ejector on the first of the two next hills, following with a pleasant floater pop, leading down into one last turn that doesn't disappoint pacing and force wise. In general, a wide variety of forces, turns, and hills. Great great ride. The Timberliners help make it even more fun. Definitely a top 25 coaster. If your heading to Lake Compounce, it is worth stopping at Quassy for this ride. Now for some crappy ipod pics for whoever cares.
  18. Well I rode it. Once. Hugest line. It was an awesom ride tho i must say. Not a number one coaster, but up there in the top 5. Great airtime. The drop in the back was just INSANE. As good as el toro. (i only rode in the back) The hill after the first drop was as good as rolling thunder hill, same with the hill right next to it. The three overbanks were each very different. The first had a lot of lats, the second had lats and airtime and was my favorite. It kinda transitioned from a lateral force to semi ejector on the way down. The third overbank was cool because it was enclosed but was useless forcewise, but the hill right after makes up for it. The drop off the midbreak was somewhat disappointing but i mean if it was on a crappier ride like a B&M it would have been very fun, the hill after had light ejector, then the hill diving through the structure after had nice ejector, the sideways hill was very light ejector maybe floater, a nice forceful low turn after, then you go up into a floater hill, and surpisingly ejector on the transition hill right after, then the rest of the way back kept its speed and pace with some good light ejector on the hills and some light lats, even the last hills and going into the brakes had airtime. It would have been better if the end had just as good pacing as the beginning, but then again it was the first day of the ride running. The trains were great, it was NOT the same restraints as the Gerstlauer spinners, they had a flat bottom and had more surface area along your thighs, and they left ALOT of room for airtime even if they were tight, compared to the spinners they were a bit more comfortable and made for airtime imo. The ride was interesting in that it felt steel but it was still not TOO smooth. It might have been the seams or something. You could NOT hear the train going over the seams between the tracks probably because of all the screaming that went over top of it. Overall I wish i had gotten another chance to ride. I also rode all of their other coasters, and was pleasantly surprised by titan. It was raw power the whole ride, and it had alot of good lats in random places where it was WANTED during the ride, like at the top of the first turn, and coming out of the helix, and the last turn before the breaks, and a bit on the overbanks. The restraints were AWESOME because they physically didnt allow you to be stapled. That one airtime hill makes up for the lack of airtime in the ride because it had ejector where your butt did not touch the seat for like 4 seconds. Plus the first drop had good air in the back because of the way it was shaped, and the helixes were intense in in VERY good way. Great ride. I also enjoyed Mr. Freeze because im a fan of launched coasters. The launch kinda sucked, but the tophat had airtime on the transition in, hangtime on the top, then airtime on the way out. The forces were out of controll coming out of the tower. Your just floating for so long and then you just hit the bottom full force and it really catches your off guard and makes the weightlessness all the more effective. Other notes- -Shock wave and JRS were both closed[!] -Batman reminded me how amazing that model is -I reached my 100 coaster mark finally [:I] -Superman was the worst combo tower EVAR -park was pretty nice -Great guest relations office (incredible compared to sfne) -why are there two log flumes with the same name right next to each other? -Flash pass only let me ride NTG once and i was veryy pissed -Most crowded day at a park i have ever seen Counts NTG- 1 Titan-3 Mr. Freeze- 6 Batman- 3 La Vibora- 1 Mini Mine Train- 1 Didnt ride anything else
  19. 1.Storm Runner (short but incredible in every aspect and has no line, so intense this year with the launch going full power and so much air) 2.Boulder Dash (Fav Wood) (ride back row at night) 3.Bizarro (SUPERMAN) sfne (amazing and used to b #1 until became bizarro 4.Millenium Force (great drop and just amazing ride and speed) 5.Manta (wow) 6.Maverick (like storm runner forcewise but a bit painful and without the insane launch) 7.Apollo's Chariot (predrop+diving hill thing= yum) 8.Griffon (great fun in the back) 9.Magnum (ride at night in the second to back and you shall understand) 10.Hydra/Nitro (tie)
  20. I shall be there on opening day! Cant wait. First time at the park AND opening day of a probably top 5 coaster. Savin up for a flash pass. Edit- Will flash passes work for NTG on opening day!?
  21. I have always loved kings dominion ever since i went alot as a kid. I moved to CT and have only gone once since but im going back this summer, and i will get to ride I-305 probably at its best. Nice to know they are doing things like planting flowers! I remember i used to think the park was so trashy next to busch gardens... that was before i visited a six flags park. I will never call KD or its Waterpark anything related to the word trashy ever again in my entire life. Oh how i miss being spoiled.
  22. Thank god those trains dont have audio on them.
  23. The perfect example of bad theming is Bizarro SFNE. That transformation practically ruined the ride for me. It had a great theme before hand.
