Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
Ed Farmer replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With some of the head-scratching recent additions to Six Flags parks, I'm only half-kidding when I say St. Louis is probably going to get a Premier launcher like Discovery Kingdom is getting, while Bizarro/Medusa goes to Magic Mountain. La Ronde: Relocated SLC just a few years after receiving a B&M inverter New England: Relocated GIB to compliment existing Boomerang Great America: Nearly had a second B&M standup (Chang) to go along with Iron Wolf for 2011 season And, while not a Six Flags park- Canada's Wonderland: Last two major additions have been B&M mega/speed coasters. The creative forces behind these additions is awe-inspiring. -
But some people are trying to avoid very specific people: Their employers. I know a guy that only vacations on cruise ships because he got sick of work calling him on his vacations. At $8/minute to call a ship, your employer has to REALLY want to get ahold of you. Nothing a silence button or airplane mode can't cure. ^I suppose I ought to try it before I rail on it, you're correct.

Can't say this would deter me from going on a cruise, cause I don't think I would ever go on one in the first place. I've always thought of "vacation" as time spent away from people- not time spent confined to close quarters with people. I'll get a membership to a gym if I want to deal with the BO and noise of dozens of strangers.

Best B&M Standup
Ed Farmer replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
B&M Standups would probably be my favorite coaster type. Of the four I've ridden (Chang, Mantis, Scorcher, Iron Wolf) I'd go with Iron Wolf for the intensity, followed by Scorcher. You really can't go wrong with any of them IMO, it just seems like the smaller ones pack more intensity into their layouts. For this reason, along with the fact that they're from a different (better) era of B&M's history, I'm really intrigued by the two Paramount Vortex coasters (Vortices?). -
Most. OverRated. Ride. of 2012.
Ed Farmer replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Simply because it looks like several different mediocre coasters thrown together under the guise of an expensive price tag: Verbolten. Looks like Italian Job and Cheetah Hunt sans one lame barrel roll. I know the drop element is Alton's 13, but I've never been, so I can't really compare. -
Most excited for this change at my home away from home park (BGT). Up until this point I had to risk hopping the fences at the alligator pond or hope for some rain to fall to get a drink at Busch Tampa. It will be nice not having to risk a body part(s) or worry about contracting some disease from a pollutant to quench my thirst. Or beer.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
Ed Farmer replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I get the feeling that the pull-out for this ride will make it's first drop one of my favorites around. When it comes to the first drop on a hypercoaster, B&M's are the only ones that really do anything for me- probably because of their trains (and in the case of Raging Bull and Apollo, the pre-drop as well). This one looks like it may change that. -
Nürburgring launched coaster
Ed Farmer replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How about cost to maintain??? The world's fastest coaster isn't going to be cheap to launch every couple of minutes! Perhaps, but it's likely that sooner or later a park somewhere will want to build something as fast or faster than this coaster. Rather than pay for something new, they could go used. I don't disagree that cost of operation could and probably will limit the prospective buyers out there- but it shouldn't be assumed that it is something that automatically dooms this coaster to be scrapped. Of course, this is all assuming the park is indeed on borrowed time. -

I'd imagine if Ferrari World does indeed close, the coaster would find life elsewhere. Only thing stopping that would be space constraints, which not being too familiar with the coaster, can't say for sure if it would have. -
Having thought little of both IJ:ST and C'Hunt, the German-themed lovechild of the two isn't one that would bring me back to Williamsburg by itself. Luckily, the variety and quality already at BGW are (enough to bring me back), which is a good thing, because I haven't been since shortly after Griffon. I like that it'll have the drop into the Rhine though... :shrugs:

Ocean Park Discussion Thread
Ed Farmer replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The transition between the dive loop and zero-g roll is Kumba-esque. Also digging the fact that there is a "B&M dip" after the lift. I wasn't sure we would see one again based on their recent designs. For the afore-mentioned reasons, I don't even care if it's forceful or not. This is something I'd love to see replace Iron Wolf at Great America. -

A lot has been said about Wild Eagle's setting/placement. This is a whole new level. -
Saw Guns 'N Roses last night. Solid show. Axl sounds great, definitely better than on the two previous North American tour.

With the similarities between the two, I'm curious to see if that trim brake made it onto X-Flight's design. -

Not sure whether it's sad, or hilarious that someone took pictures of dirt from what looks Dragon Khan's drop. I'll go with a combination of both. -

Always nice to see more of these great rides pop up. My only complaint is that I wish one of these closer to home. -

You must be getting your Florida B&M coasters that begin with a K mixed up.
