  1. What I meant by Formula Rossa not breaking KK's record is that, not only does it launch SLOWER than expected, but the trims just slow the launch down more... With this in mind, FR technically doesn't own the record, seeing as the trims and the slower launch factor in. As of now, the fastest FR has launched was in the 110-120 range. That's about 8 mph slower than Kingda Ka, but who's counting?
  2. I've only been on two Batman clones (GAdv and NO), and they were both really smooth and enjoyable rides. SLC...They're very spiratic. I've ridden a few of them, Mind Eraser and Great Nor'Easter are a few that I rode. They're not...TERRIBLE coasters, but they're just INSANELY rough. Nor'Easter has improved with the new cars, and provide insane leg-chopping effects, but that's because it's a custom model. And that's how it ALWAYS is. The custom SLCs are SOOO much better than the standard ones. Honestly, Vekoma should've stuck with the custom models. They worked ALOT better than their standard SLCs. So, honestly, BTR wins for me, only because they're much smoother, much more sleek and you can have more fun on it...And especially because you don't break your back on it...
  3. With the recent unveiling of Forumla Rossa as the "fastest coaster on Earth", yet it doesn't even TOUCH Kingda Ka's speed, one has to wonder, "How much better can we get?" I mean, when Kingda Ka came out, everyone was certain no one could touch it. Sure, everyone felt the same way when Millenium Force came out, but keep this in mind... Top Thrill Dragster broke 100 miles per hour 8 YEARS AGO...Kingda Ka has been the coaster king for 6 years and counting. Many people, such as Ring Racer or Formula Rossa have tried, but it seems that you certaintly can't get any faster than Kingda Ka without injury or catastrophic breakdowns, as displayed by Ring Racer's cable incident, as well as the fact whenever they attempt to fire it past 100 mph, the computers powering it completely melt down... As for height, who knows? No one has even attempted to top Kingda Ka. Perhaps it may have to do with the speed problem. As seen normally, you can't reach past Kingda Ka's height without going FASTER than Kingda Ka, and that's where we hit this present time... So the question is, how far can we go with coaster speed and height? Is Kingda Ka the limit of coaster speed and height?
  4. ^That second one looks EXACTLY like Space Mountain's layout... Joker's Jinx, along with the other "Crazy Cobra" coasters sport these strange supports.
  5. ^I was hoping someone would post that! The Nor-Easter has some of the STRANGEST supports I've seen. Gotta give it to Wildwood though, they did quite well with how they constructed a huge Vekoma invert above 3 different rides. It also provides some SICK leg-chopper effects.
  6. I have a feeling that Invertigo will be constructed during the summer, and will likely recieve new paint, and possibly a new name. I definetly believe that it'll be open on Opening Day in 2012. Let's hope Vekoma has some luck at Dorney...Or it'll be "Deja Vu" (Pun DEFINETLY intended! ) all over again!
  7. I also forgot these last two... - I waited for 2 hours, IN THE RAIN, on Opening Day for Maverick at Cedar Point...COMPLETELY worth it! - I rode Viper 3 times in a day back in 2004. I regret it deeply, but it makes my back feel better knowing: 1. It was torn down. 2. It's bad reputation allows for ghost-like tales of how bad it was.
  8. I rode El Toro at Great Adventure last August. Tried Kingda Ka, but the old girl wouldn't hold for me...
  9. I can understand that, perhaps Invertigo, being an incredibly short ride, will likely have good capacity. Longest I waited was 2 hours for Talon. It was a Saturday, so I can understand that. I sometimes wonder why Steel Force has the shortest waits...I understand that it's at the BACK of the park, but it's the BIGGEST COASTER THERE...I don't know how someone doesn't notice that. Still, can't wait for Invertigo! I don't know why, but I have a feeling it'll be re-painted, and possibly renamed...
  10. The classis Corkscrew at Cedar Point. All I remember was, my stomach lurched when we hit the first inversion. My first looper was Laser: Others: First Batwing inversion: Great American Scream Machine First Immelmann inversion: Medusa First impulse inverter: Wicked Twister I love me some good inversions,
  11. ...What park are you going to? I've been to Dorney tons of times. I've waited on line quite a few times. Longest I've waited was about 2 hours for Talon. Sure, lines RARELY show up at Dorney, but they indeed exist.
  12. I have a feeling that Invertigo will likely be going up during this season... Capacity will be a NIGHTMARE at Dorney Park, tho.
  13. A good example of theme helping a ride's quality would be Disaster Transport. I rode DT when its theme was still INCREDIBLY prominent, and it was incredible! No matter how quick the ride was, the desolate feel the ride had with the creepy que to the destroyed environment inside, it was REALLY effective. Definetly helped improve on the original "Bobsled" ride that DT was. The shed-look it has also makes it feel strange and mysterious, much like Space Mountain. Even if the theming has been taken away the last few years, we still have DOMO to entertain us, and that my friends, is enough.
  14. I once had this freaking terrifying nightmare... I was at SFGADV, and I was waiting in line for Kingda Ka. The train went off, and was heading down the launch track, when the whole tower just...fell apart. The whole thing collapsed, while the train then slammed into the collapsing tower. Strange thing was, GASM was still there... Also had a strange dream where I was riding that Cantilever designed coaster that was being planned a while ago... Had another dream where I was riding Corkscrew at CP, only it was a longer ride, and it that it had these HUGE OTSRs....
  15. I was recently thinking, who remembers Batman and Robin: The Chiller? Sure, it was a troubled ride with TONS of downtime...But what if, perhaps, we took away the aspect of power shortages? Remember the original plans for Lightnin' Loops when Batman was coming? Remember the idea of "Lightnin' Loop", a one-track version of Lightnin' Loops?.... Perhaps, to decrease the amount of downtime, Great Adventure could take the Batman or Robin side, and build it in another part of the park as a one-track coaster? Sure, it'd require TONS of maintenance as the original coaster did, but it'd be MUCH less costly, and would benefit the park better than The Chiller did. A little re-naming, re-painting and re-theming, and it'd be a perfect addition to another part of the park...
  16. ...No...No...NO... I already HATE Avatar...And now the biggest disappointment of a movie I've seen is replacing...The most storied attraction I've been on in Universal... I understand that there's a new age of fans coming, but you NEED to preserve the older attractions! You lose half of the demographic that way!
  17. Nah, it just seems that GADV's new coasters are incredibly prone to not being open on it's tenative date. It wasn't JUST Viper or Shockwave, also included are Kingda Ka, GASM, El Toro, B&A: The Chiller (Which was, admittingly, excusable) and Batman. Not saying they need to do a better job, just saying that USUALLY, new GADV coasters don't open on the day they're predicted to, which is understandable, but seems to be a curse.
  18. I KNEW IT! I knew that SOME sort of shuttle coaster would be put into Laser's spot! Nice to see Invertigo getting a nice new home, especially at one of my home parks! Hopefully they'll change the name and color, because 2 yellow/blue coasters will look INCREDIBLY bad right next to each other...
  19. Good to hear. It's just that, GADV has had a bad problem with opening coasters EXTREMELY late from their original project date. For example, Shockwave was PROJECTED to be opened on Opening Day. Nope. Memorial Day Weekend, nope. It opened about a week or so AFTER Memorial Weekend, I think. Same thing with Viper, but that was a POS. But yes, HOPEFULLY the same delays Shockwave experienced won't happen to Green Lantern.
  20. It's gotta be Nitro and El Toro for me. I just wish I'd be able to get on Kingda Ka ONCE...The thing breaks down whenever I get on line...
  21. I enjoy theming, but it doesn't change anything about the coaster...A terrible coaster it still terrible, even with theming... ...The Dark Knight, for example.
  22. Got a 2011 Season Pass for Christmas! Will definetly be hitting GADV quite often this year! Just recently, I passed by Jackson to go to my parents house. Seeing Kingda Ka poking out above the trees, I decided to try and drive around to see if I could find a SMALL spot where I could spot Green Lantern... I ended up discovering: - The entrance gate was locked (And I mean LOCKED) shut. - The area around the entrance was completely deserted. - Green Lantern is looking great! It really does tower over the parking lot! I just hope the Memorial Day predicted opening is true. I hope this doesn't end up like The Chiller, where we had to wait A WHOLE YEAR to be able to ride it.
  23. If they want it ON THE STRIP, it'll be tough. If they're talking about near, say the South Point, then yes, that'd be a perfect spot. Not alot of City Center is opened. I was there last year, ALOT of it is still under construction. Why all the hate for the NYNY coaster? Some days it's rough, some days it runs great! Sure, a removal of the OTSR would be nice, but hey, it's still a classis coaster.
  24. It is a nice idea, but honestly, Las Vegas is NOT an ideal place for an amusement park. I've been there for 4 years straight (5 straight this year ), and with how little land is left for development in Las Vegas, the VERY MOST they could fit is near the South Point hotel, or heck, maybe near the M Hotel, ALL THE WAY at the other end of Las Vegas Boulevard. Also, I see financial issues coming in as well. The Las Vegas City Center project has been put on hold for 2+ years, and I really don't think amusement parks is exactly the biggest focus of the city... Besides, Las Vegas has an EXCELLENT selection of roller coasters. Speed, the New York New York coaster, Canyon Blaster and Desperado. Maybe if financial developments improve, I could see this as a tenative project. Right now, though, this looks to be a lost cause.
  25. Yikes! It's not very often that you see a Six Flags park getting flooded... I'm sure the park will drain soon, a week at most...
