New B&M trains on Steel Dragon
vacoaster09 replied to Trevor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would love to see Mamba, Wild Thing, Steel Force (which used to be a top 10 coaster btw remember the 90s coaster countdown shows), Steel Eel, Superman (Mexico) get these trains (min the leg guards and seat belts). I prefer the open air seating and comfort and freedom of B&M trains. It would be a great way for these massive coasters to get some new marketable edge within their respective parks because they are great rides. I think these trains would enchace the ride experience. I purposelyfully left out Phantom and Magnum because Phantom doesn't have such obstructive trains and Magnum doesn't need anything new as its just a classic and still as popular and from the reviews gives some awesome rides in a certain seat. Edit: when I say popularity, just saying some ride slike Steel Force used to rank high in polls. Of course within their respective parks they might still be relatively popular. -
That's with Superman not running at full capacity though... Which is not its full capability... Yolo at its full capability will be worst (especially if you anticipate stacking... Superman can't stack). I guess this will give you plenty of time to gulp down your coke freestyle drink in line while you eat your "Yolo"Wings and your "Cray Cray" Burgers, and Sweet Brown "Ain't nobody got time fo' dat" fries.

The sliding station system would work for a continuous circuit coaster as well. However, I agree that it would not alleviate stacking... I was more concerned with the ability to have more trains. Also I can't even see SFMM having 2 trains on the course at a time. Realistically, the green light to launch a train would only come after the train has cleared the crest of the top hat which is pretty much when the train has started to enter the magnetic breaks that slow it down during the descent (thus the ride is practically over before the next launch begins). Yes, the concept video shows one train in the loop as the train is going over the top hat... but such a case is completely un-realistic because in the worst case scenario if the train did not clear the top hat it would roll back to the tunnel which is short while the other train is heading into it. 2 trains is terrible (even though 3 cars for a total of 18 each). However they can only dispatch a train once the other is done with the entire course. Yolocoaster will be the number most hated line at SFMM. With a sliding station they could have 3. Sliding stations would work because you can still achieve a launch from the station whereas the only other option would be to have a double long station but with the space constraints that's difficult. Jim seay in an interview when asked about the possibility of doing sliding stations for S:UF at SFDK he said they could do that if the customer wanted... so I can only assume that Six Flags (for whatever reason *cough - to minimize costs - cough*) only wanted 2 trains. Lines are going to be atrocious!

Thank you! So that confirms what I was thinking happened. They must have installed a separate and secondary pully system at the top of the tower and carefully strung the cables down the tower so to not interfere with the cables for the gondola. I guess when they want to use the evac system they will attach the evac truss to the cables (which I assume are fixed the tower when not in use so to not sway). I would assume that this system is manually controlled by a winch instead of a couterweight like star flyers. Very interesting indeed! However, I am with the others... I rather be left in those seats than to be standing in that basket wobbling in the wind. They can feel free to use the evac system to bring me some water but I doubt they could convince me to slide out of my seat while at 300ft in the air. The only thing worse than having a mondial windseeker stuck 300ft in the air is to have a mondia windseeker with a mondial evac system(basket contraption) stuck 300ft in the air as well.

Since they technically will only be able to have one train on the course at a time.. and considering this is SFMM with large attendance, it would've been nice to see Six Flags opt to have the sliding stations (a la Mr. Freeze) so they could load two trains at a time allowing room for 4 trains vs. 3.

When I rode X-flight I did not notice or have an issue with the constricting feeling until the brake run. I started to get that claustrophibic feeling and remember hoping that the train would not stack. Great America was great at not staking the trains so we just rolled right into the station thankfully. Unfortunately, I don't think this is going to change at all. I prefer the I305 style vest as they do not tighten. -
