Mass ride removal trends
KI Kidd replied to megametal's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not operating as in completely dead. Sorry for the confusing wording before. They stated that it will be removed from the park map (as of now it is still visible there) before the start of the season. Here's the text from the email: Pretty sad to see this go actually. As stated before, it did have a nice setting, and was a very fun ride (especially before the ride cycle was shortened last season). Hopefully that patch of land will be home to a new ride for 2013. -
Mass ride removal trends

Didn't quite know which forum to stick this in, since we don't appear to have a Michigan's Adventure discussion thread, but I did get an email from the park today confirming that their Falling Star will not be operating this season. -

^The ride wasn't made to be operated outdoors. Even the water effects that the ride oringinally had caused problems for it. -
The L.A. Times has posted a story about the proposed coaster which they say would indeed be from GCI... http://www.latimes.com/travel/deals/themeparks/la-trb-californias-great-america-wooden-coaster-02201215,0,6148224.story After a decade of difficulty and uncertainty, California's Great America has dusted off plans for an oft-delayed wooden roller coaster in hopes of reversing the Santa Clara amusement park's declining fortunes. Scheduled to debut in 2013, the Great Coasters International wooden coaster would send riders whirling into a one-of-a-kind twist around the Star Tower observation deck near the park's entrance, officials confirmed. The 3,100-foot-long ride would include a terrain-hugging S-turn, a high-speed station fly-by and a series of zero-G camelbacks and bunny hops at speeds topping 50 mph aboard Millennium Flyer trains. Originally scheduled to open in 2009, the 108-foot-tall cloverleaf-shaped coaster was repeatedly delayed over noise concerns, a contentious football stadium proposal and the pending sale of the Bay Area amusement park. In December, parent company Cedar Fair announced plans to remain as the long-term owner of California's Great America after the sale of the park fell through. A month later, Cedar Fair signed an agreement allowing construction of the San Francisco 49ers' new football stadium in the amusement park's overflow parking lot. That leaves the noise concerns of neighbors, which could resurface on March 7 when city officials begin reviewing plans for the proposed coaster. Last year, the park received an extension of a previously approved height variance for the ride, according to Screamscape. California's Great America has removed three coasters in the past decade, a period when the park added no new coasters, according to Roller Coaster Database.

Is anyone else getting a "File Not Found" error when they try to open the detailed listing? -
In regards to the fastpass issue; there is very little overhead (assuming that it is implemented in the same way it was at KI this past season) involved so it only takes a limited number of people buying them each day to make it profitable. As I am sure you all know, there are always people that will buy things like this, even on the slowest of days.

The new website is up. Few things of note: - Opening day is April 28th - The park is open from 10 to 10 on the Fridays before daily operation starts - The Crypt is not listed on any of the rides pages - Three new shows for 2012 (British Invasion, Charlie Brown's All-Stars, and Yesterday Once More: The 70s) Link to new site -
Help plan SFStL, HW, WoF, SFGAm trip
KI Kidd replied to megametal's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Raven was running two trains last year so I'd be shocked if that weren't the case this year as well. As others have said start your day in Splashin' Safari and get in line for whatever ride is at the top of your list (I'd assume Wildebeest or Mammoth). The lines for all three coasters usually die down significantly around lunch time so that is often a great time to ride. Have fun sounds like an awesome trip! -

This year I traveled 103.320 miles by roller coaster. Almost a fourth of that (24.009 miles) was on Diamondback. -

2011.. What was your highlight?
KI Kidd replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I took my first cruise in January, which was just amazing. I then got to go to Universal and IOA for the first time for a couple days afterwards. It was pretty much the perfect way to kick off the year. -

Great report! It is awesome to see him getting started at such a young age. I actually used to call myself 'Bean' when I was little, apparently I thought that was how you were supposed to say 'Vince.' -

Looks like this will be fantastic addition to the park. It is awesome that they are keeping the height restriction the same as the ride being removed. I wish more parks thought along these lines when replacing/removing/adding attractions. As for Voyage, there is no question that it has gotten extremely rough the past two years. However I find that in the front row the ride is still very enjoyable.
