Mystery USA GCI Project?

ok ok, I will let you all off the hook. A few years ago I hit pay dirt in the stock market (before the colapse) and I bank rolled the money into short term CD's. I bought 40 acres out in the middle of nowhere, USA, to build a house on and to satisfy my love of Prowler when I wanted it, I called up GCI and said, design me a Prowler, but make it longer and faster. They drew one up, put together a model and a computer simulation, after which I handed over 10 million. They broke ground last week. -

thanks for the pics, they are by far the most detailed I've seen of a pull thru -
If rattler's running good this year, I'd hate to have ridden it last year, two rounds and done for me. Could have been I wasn't expecting what was next, but it sure put a bruisen on me... I have to say, even though TG won't be a ground up attraction, I think this will be the big ticket item everyone will be seeking next year, not too many new coaster announcements for next year thus far, and while I hope that changes, I see the coaster boys and girls flocking to Texas and Tampa, FL next year for sure. I am really excited about this one, just hope they put it on the flashpass.

I agree they are more expensive, I paid 105 this year, and in 2011, knock of 20% for visiting 5 times (i just hope they don't raise the price 20%, lol) And in the grand scheme, SF's doesn't have much in the pipe for new attractions, but, they are re-themeing, and revamping old rides and cleaning up a bit which you have to give them credit for.

The only other rides I can think of is Superman Power of Tower at 313 feet, and the Drop Towers at Kings Island/Dominion at 305/315 but then that's a drop tower and not a swing. All of which are tower height and not drop height, so, not too many. I wonder if this is the type of ride BGW is looking into, hmmm. -

well boys and girls, looks like everyone is slated to get a stratosoar that's making an announcement today, so that makes it 4 CF parks in all, wow, talk about putting all your peas in one pod, lol. -

I actually find the ride quite tame, and have never experienced any head banging, and actually could do an hour or more of ERT on it, no problem. I'm average height, I suppose those who may be shorter might experience some discomfort but really don't see how....but in the end, I guess not everyone can have the same ride experiences -

watch it be a sky coaster, feet, diaper, 64 riders a day, airtime, okay, its a reach but I couldn't resist. -
^^ it was a different type of ride, same principal. I believe Steve operates an acutal real genuine sky coaster, the one the girl died on wasnt the real deal, was swung off a crane type structure if I remember correct, and the operator had so many previous and current violations, you'd need a semi truck to haul them to the courthouse. They weren't allowed to operate in the state for several years after.

Did a quick search, didn't see anything on this, but Cedar Fair pre-sale season is around the corner (Worlds of Fun over Labor Day Weekend) and they've slightly upped the cost of the plat pass by 5.00. Not that big of a deal especially if the rumored cheap/free drinks comes to light. I'm not sure of how many platinum passes they sell in a year, but don't see that increaseing their bottom line too much when looked at on the grand scale, but every penny helps to pay down debt I suppose. The cost of the regular passes for 2011 look as if they will remain the same. Not seen anything yet for Six Flags.

What area really needs a theme park?
chadster replied to let1gre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oprah had a park in Nashville? On the vegas front, they have reformulated their tourism plan to shy away from famlies and gear more towards getting drunk, losing money, taking in shows, and of course, getting lucky. They scrapped wet-n-wild, and I never seen much traffic there after the resorts such as Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand built lazy rivers, wave pools, etc. Plus, being vegas and that they charge what, 15 bucks for a ride on the manhatten express, they would surely charge 75 bucks for a park the size of magic springs. If frontier city in OKC would add a decent big ticket attraction it might be a park worth of visiting more often, however visitor count isn't what it should be, even with the new family suspended vekoma (about 50 second ride cycle, no joke), so I would say Oklahoma needs a nice mid scale theme park. the closest decent parks are WoF and SFOT, Magic Springs is a decent park, but no new big tickets that they can keep running in a while. -
My first coaster was on a wild cat cookie cutter, not too intense, but for todays times somethig like this http://www.themeparkreview.com/parks/photo.php?pageid=1&linkid=2430 might do for the scardie cats, but something like this http://www.themeparkreview.com/parks/photo.php?pageid=1&linkid=2438 should be plenty enough for the thrill seeking kid to want more and more...

this only makes sense, I'd wrote a few weeks earlier that I thought this would be the case as the giant still has a wood frame which must be inspected regularly, if it were a solid steel structure, there wouldn't be much of a need with the exception of a few key areas, glad that has been cleared up once and for all.

Ok, so here is the scoop. Starting this fall they will start construction on the parking lot side of the river (it's more like a stream, but hey, if river makes them feel better, so be it) with shops and restaurants so as to mimic the riverwalk in San Antonio. That part will be open all year and no admission charge. Eventually the river boats will take people back and forth and what not. Also, as I recently attended their first ever BahnCon, we were sent a survey about future attractions. They ARE going to add items for next season, though I'm guessing just a few things. The survey indicated an upcharge train ride from the parking lot to the water parks, and up charge indoor sky dive, a better master blaster, a new water tower with 3 or 4 slides, enclose torrent river for cooler days (roof can be retracted)or a second rapids river with a conveyor belt that takes you from one river to another should you desire. At the moment, you have to get out of the pool by the master blaster and walk up to torrent river. After that phase is completed they will begin work on the lodge and indoor water park. All in all, they will end up with 8, yes count them, 8 master blaster slides. Their website lists some of their plans but is somewhat outdated vs what we told at the event. At the moment, the park is small, but you can have a really good time, the food prices are reasonable and staff friendly. I can't wait until it's finished as they are trying to make it as awesome as the flagship park, and maybe even out do it!

the "red tape" on the ride for me won't hardly do it. With all of the modern technologies out there, an additional safety mechanism should be in place. The operator is in full control of when a person is dropped, as in this case the operator failed to pay attention to the net height prior to release. I'm curious how much sleep this person had as it sounded like he was in robot mode, bring rider over, release the rider, bring next rider over, release, oh crap, opps, my bad. So what additional mechanism am i talking about? For one, sensors placed in the area deemed at the acceptable height for the catch net. Second, a device is attached to the release mecahnism that prohibits the device from being activated (button pressed\cord pulled) until the sensors are tipped AND a person on the ground pressing another button signaling the rides computer and "drop master" that everything is good on the ground. Another option would be a trap door that slides out of place, (not folding down as to prevent head injuries and other issues) that can only be pulled back once the sensors are tripped for the netting. The door would be secured via pins triggered by an actuator or hydo, that would release and secure. On multiple jumps, the door would have to be closed before the netting could be lowered preventing an opps for a second, third, or fourth drop before returning to earth. While some of these attractions have the netting attached to the gondola and lifts as the gondola does (a place acorss from Speed Zone in Dallas has this safety feature) more can and should be done to prevent needless injuries or death.

come to think of it, the park might not be a bad investment after all. What one needs to know is how much steel is in the park, which shouldn't be too difficult being as all of the coaster track is weighed prior to shipping as are the other rides, then, do the math on how much you would get for all of it being as steel prices are still on the rise, and finally make sure you get the park at a steel of a price to account for teardown, and watch your money grow. Then you could easily turn the remains into a community center and donate it to the local government, let them worry about it after that.

i suppose we will have to see who shows up to the bankruptcy sale since it looks like thats where the owners want it to go after their latest court filing. So the only question is, who will want the rides the most. Honestly, after watching all of the programming on tv and articles written on how hard it was to build the spin the bottle coaster, i wouldn't even consider disassembly, removal, and reassembly of the ride, it looks to be a maintenance nightmare and not worth the trouble. Cool idea, bad execution. the remaining coaster should be able to find a good home. with the beach adding a new fun house and gigantic ferris wheel, i doubt a park that far from the tourists will have much success a third time around without some serious money injected into additional infastructure, marketing, and transportaionn system to and and from the park. A nice trolley *might* help...

well, this character pleaded not guilty, pre-trial hearing set for 8.27, will be interested to hear how that goes, better yet, I'll walk over to the courthouse just to see this nut in person.
