Dorney Park or Six Flags GAdv?
chadster replied to vrf19977's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am partial to Dorney, SFGAdv IMO is geared more to the 14+ age group and and mediocre flat selection. I actually like Dorney Park better than many of Cedar Fair's other properties, it's small enough, but large enough, has a very good coaster selection and plenty of new and old school family attractions. You could easily spend the better part of a day there. My pics of the park from earlier this year are here. While they focus more on the coasters, you can get a good idea for the feel of the park. -

I bow to you sir. Bookmarked and will be used as a guide. Thanks for your hard work putting together your wooden adventures, it is much appreciated eye candy! -
^^ Thanks! ^ From what I understand, it was S&S's first double space shot tower, so my guess is, part PR, part they were just getting started. It's still a good ride and really jerks you back down, the cables actually come off the top wheel about three or four feet on the up shot before settling back down and bouncing a bit. I think we've all just got spoilt to getting shot all the way up on their other rides. So, in all reality, I just give them a hard time for it. *edit* I should also note that it usually has no shortage of riders

S&S Sansei Discussion Thread
chadster replied to Coaster Joe's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've always been a strong cheerleader of S&S products (minus the towers at W0F). But an air launched suspended coaster? Lets just take this all the way with an air launched mine train. -
Post 4 of 4 gorilla on his back blurry, yes, sorry, but it counts as a ride pic viking entrance, ride pic coming up in a few i think they got a heck of a deal on all this fake spider webbing, it's everywhere, serious, it's everywhere, but, it's also cool and this flying hydro contraption festhaus is looking festive at this point, I've made a full loop of the park hitting the majors first, now we look at the flats, and this, a wet ride on a cold day. i refer to this as the super round up, it has a different name, but i like super round up, so there. ferris wheel noted! a shot for skycoastin steve on my way to the cloudpoofer 2000 #1 wipeout ride, sorry Kemah, your's is good too, but the effects, ceiling, and awesome ride program make this one better. carosuel look, it's a real spide web! train ride time! bumper cars we pause for a brief commercial to bring you the forgotten, le taxi choo choo, and this ride, that should really be in the kid section, maybe it will get moved? @$$*^!#$^(#$*^!#$^ sun and finally on this train ride, my new favorite boomerang pictures. Train ride lasts about 5 minutes and is quite nice. can't forget about this boat swing and finally, my final rides of the season on Prowler, simply the most aweseome coaster built in a while. See ya next year Prowler, Patriot, and WoF! Thanks for an awesome time!!!

Post 3 of 4 So here we are at this haunt attraction where once again, i tried something with the sun, and failed opposite entry of the haunt and last one of this haunt outdoor theatre, honsetly, IMO, this needs to go, a nice S&S Screamin Swing, Huss Frisbee (not a cheap knock off), or a Eurofighter would look good here, so WoF, if you're reading....for 2012 please! Rock Band Live Haunt starts at 7pm, and to go with the 7 theme, drinks are 7.00 so the rapids were having issues, but quickly fixed. NOTED! oooo scarey Mamba sign nerd shot! NOTED! after Mamba, the rapids were open, and look what's floating around on my way to the boomerang thang scareeeee Prowler??? PROWLER!!!!! meow. outside station shot nerd shot and classic shot 3 trips on prowler thanks to short lines, quick ops on one train, and on to Zulu finished with spinning, it was down the path to the octopus and sea dragon, but i can't get out! then i look up and what do i see? none other than a flying sperm octopus walking towards the sea dragon just what i was hoping for! this is one pissed off dragon, just look at him and finally, yes, another nerd shot, nerd. More to come, including a ride on the train, and the rest of the rides

Post 2 of 4 this would have been way cooler had it been in front of thunderhawk so walking out of timberwolf we have carnevil so if you have ever been to a bar and said, this is the coolest thing ever, then, seen the bar in the day with all of the regular lights on, well, this is what it would be like. Literally, night and day they have shaved banana's, unlike SF's who do not shave their banana's sigh, i wish they had the himilaya back, however, patriot is a perfectly fine replacement. i wonder how many quaters they end up with in this thing? so out of carnevil and out on the midway walking towards Camp Snoopy, I captured Mamaba. one last visit before the transformation, and I have realized I missed another ride, opps. i gave up fighting the sun, and then tried to use it to my advantage to try and create a ghost like effect, i failed on this one. mini train giddie up ride and cage wheel thingy in the background and we can't leave with out giving some love to the worm i'm sure the big apple tunnel thing will disappear, maybe a giant snoopy to repalce it? that would be cool going back up the hill from the worm one last canoe trip noted so as we leave camp snoopy, we head over to dominator, and I must say, S&S should not be proud of this one, perhaps the only one they shouldn't be proud of (yes, I heard they recently had an ownership change) but still, a perfectly good waste of an extra fifty feet *edit"* I've learned it was their first double shot tower, so I'll give them some slack, but still, I'm spoiled to going all the way to the top, just sayin, not hating next we headed over to the scrambler, a must have if you don't have a himilaya. I mean serious, look at the guy in the car closests to you, the ride hasn't even started and his ready to loose his lunch! Ok, so now we head down the path towards Mamaba and check out a haunt in the daylight on the way. Coming up....Next.

Greetings Ride Warriors, and welcome to my last visit to W0F for the season on 10.3.10. The weather was chilly, the crowds were light (until around 3:30pm) and the coasters were running great, albeit all with one train operation, but that's really all the needed early on. Prowler and Mamba could have used two trains by the time I left as crowds were beginning to roll in after the NASCAR race and the weather started to improve. I have also included what would be my last look at Camp Snoopy before it's transformation to Planet Snoopy next year. This is a much needed and welcomed addition (I don't have kids, but if you've never seen the area before you will see why it's in need of an enhancement, its good, but older, and when done will be a huge draw for families of small children next season) I think I was able to capture photos of all the rides, (a few were blurry, but so I can say I captured virtually all the rides, I'm throwing them in!) If you can figure out the ride I'm missing, you win the prize, tho, not a prize really, just bragging rights more or less. And since this is a mega post, I'm breaking it down to several posts scattered throughout the day as I have time. Hope you enjoy, as I did. Worlds of Fun treated us great during their annual enthusiasts event and continued to do so on this day. Staff was pleasant, the park was clean, and all but the Thunderhawk was in operation (motor, again) So sit back relax, grab a beer (or soda) and let your mouse do the scrolling. And to Larry, if you want to add this post or any of the pictures to the index, feel free. Post 1 of 4 Awww, yes, it's Patriot!! I've been dreaming about you! you can always tell when you have arrived at a Cedar Fair park when... you encounter an army of trash cans! The season pass center is ready for Haunt The area leading to ticketing is ready for haunt the landscaping is ready for haunt and ticketing is ready for haunt as is the pricing, so, it must be haunt! Unfortunatley, today there will be no haunts, it's a scare free Sunday! so, without further to do, lets RIDE ON! past the entry way and over the bridge we go.....to Patriot that is! the spinning dragons, a quality Gerstlauer production. The sun will play havoc this time of year on picture takings, ugh. michael jackson, one year later. mmm, Patriot, love this ride, in my top ten behind Prowler, and look, Mr. Bones is here to greet you! so after 5 spins on Patriot with non existant lines, its off on a journey to find the Timberwolf, and on that journey we run into Jack. wtf? man, that cow has got be tired (and full) sitting there waiting for a dead man to milk her, not quite sure I get it, but is amusing. as per usual, the entrance to carn evil is next to the entrance to Timber Wolf, we will take a daytime journey through there in a minute. hello timber wolf. your track work has done you well, just don't sit in the back Shockingly, you could re-ride if no one was in line, more shockingly, people were in line to ride (ok, it's not THAT bad of a ride, layout is so so, but it's not really that bad) Car Two, Row 1, Seat 2 I have found to be the best experience for me. Just sayin BOOOOOOO.... thunderhawk was closed in August too for similar issues, haven't rode but once this year. It sports a kick a$$ ride program which I imagine isn't good on the equipment, this thing is a heavy beast of a ride, and heavy + beast = increased parts usage, at least that's my story and I'm going with it for now. So up next, a daytime visit thru Carn Evil + my last look at Camp Snoopy before the remodel

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

^ Plus, if lightening was in the area, indoors or not, I don't want to be on a steel death trap during an electrical storm. That's why I don't ride TTD in the front row, don't like the cable cooling water hitting me in the face. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
chadster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
yeah, but usually by the time maintenance cycles raptor a few times to remove two trains, cycles TTD to remove 4 or 5 trains, etc, etc, the rain most of the time passes, then, you have to shut the ride down to add trains, cycle around, add another train, so true, they will run them with one train op, but is it feasible to go through all that trouble each time it rains? Nope. SF's runs multi trains in the rain, CF can do it, they just seemed a little scared to. -

Why do wooden coasters have seat dividers?
chadster replied to vrf19977's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I must find more classics with no dividers with no "partner rule" sounds like fun -
^^ I think you're right, the marketing department's just doing their job. While some count racers as 1 coaster, technically they are two seperate tracks, thus two seperate coasters. So, unless they are re-theming something else (not likely) they would be counting superman as two and the kiddie to = 3. We can dream can't we? In all reality, we can't be too picky, they are revamping or exapanding ride selections at all of their parks amid a still unstable economy, and just shedding the bankruptcy weight, so we have to give them credit. In fact many parks across the county are expanding or revamping rides this off season outside of SF's, so people are obvioulsy finding value in season passes or one off visits or they wouldn't be bringing in the capital needed.

Dear Title Fairy, Thanks so much for my title, I honestly just noticed it and found it to be quite comical, and the best part is, I didn't even ask for it, it just appeared, like money under my pillow!

Why do wooden coasters have seat dividers?
chadster replied to vrf19977's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
<< Will only provide love to FEMALE booty's. My first trip to Kennywood was this year, and like skycoastinsteve, I was a single rider (tho only 180 pounds ) and had to spend 10 minutes waiting for another singler person as my original "partner" chickened out. I was cussing the whole time (to myself) saying it was stupid, I don't care, let me slide around, etc. Man, after that first drop and turn, I was like, yep, now I know why I had to have a "partner", my legs and side would've been black and blue for days! After failing to find someone after what seemed like forever, a ride op who was coming on shift volunteered to ride with me, thankful for that, the line to find someone was longer than the line for the ride! I rather enjoyed it, but would have much more enjoyed it had it of been a female sitting next to me -
So I read over at screamscape that the tigers will not return (BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO) AND to further cut costs, they are disbanding their on site Fire Brigade, now, I have to say the park is in a slightly remote area and they are reporting a potential 20 minute response time. I would imagine that the fire department is not utilized all that much for fires and most likely more on the medical side, however, the one time you REALLY need it, and it takes the local guys 20-25 minutes to reach said location, then management would be kicking themselves in the ass. Photo Setup/Trip Report: Tulsa State Fair
chadster replied to chadster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, here we are on opening night. With gate admission for the GP at $1.00 for tonight only w/coupon (or free for me and my party) the place was packed. As usual, parking was a complete nightmare with some people waiting over an hour to find a spot. Luckily, I found a nice spot by freak chance on the horse track (made my own) which would allow us to easily exit the facility. All rides except the sky ride were in operation with none closed by the OKDOL. All ride operators were also certified and are subject to random checks. Any ride op deemed incapable of performing their duties would be immediately removed and the ride closed by the OKDOL until a suitable replacement found. You can see the transformation from Monday, only a few pictures as the place was so packed on the midway you could barely move. Proof positive that Tulsa needs an amusement park, badly. overview shot from the east side. Two rides were not allowed to be setup, the super loop and one other, the public excuse was they didn't leave New Mexico in time....however, the midway operator sends OKDOL inspectors at his expense to the New Mexico fair to inspect rides prior to their arrival, which also allows the operator to know well in advance what won't fly, sooo...form your own opinions... people we buying these, looked, well, disgusting. lots and lots of people amung all the smoke insde the Expo, IPE, QuikTrip Center (you chose the name) from the east, looking west. This is the lower level from the above pictures. mmmm. fudge. remember that big open space from the above pics, well, here it is, all filled up. Comet II had NO line, repeat, NO line. I think due in part it was NOT on the 2.00 ride night list, and they upped the cost to 8 tickets, roughly 6.50. zooooommmmmm lost of people the line for the drop tower stretched 1.5 blocks. Tulsa REALLY needs an amusement park. the sea lions would pose for pictures. prices ranged 15-25 depending on the size. Basically, they were pimping out the sea lions, but they were really entertaining to watch and one of the highlights of the fair this year IMO sky ride closed. I heard some noises like a bearing going out on the wheel last night, but not sure what the cause of the closure for sure is, it could have been wind, gusts were at 20mph time to leave. My date had the cheese curds and pineapple, non diary, non fat, non edilble in my book (but she liked it), and I had my traditional funnel cake. Overall, their selection of vendors and layout this year is one of the best I've seen in quite some time. Just wish they had some higher quality rides. Overall, fantastic for the community, both economically, and as something to get out and do! -

Sept 29 - 24 hours prior to midway opening. Ride inspectors aren't letting anything slip, and they sure hammered the kiddie section to hell with violations. Got all the details in the pics including pictures of the "to do" list on several rides. Only one more update left, opening night tomorrow. sky thing ready to go, and walkway wrapping, they took a page out of the six flags book! over 100 effects, in a 5 x 12 trailer, thats amazing! so, here we are at the dragon wagon, what did the inspection sheet say? it said, no go. all of the kiddie rides are now in place and put together in their own section on the west side. this is a VERY worthy cause, they send packages of donated basics to the troops, postage is outragous and the are regularly in need of monetary donations to send care packages, so go online and send them a twenty! a kiddie himilaya ride, so, survey says... opps. this is one the wheels they were erecting last night, one of the last pictures of my last post a kid tums approved ride, but.... look close, the bar is covered in yellow duct tape so it is not OKDOL approved. couldn't get a shot of the sheet on this one, but, the orange tags were abundant, said something about rough trims, I chucked a little see? orange=no good, and the trims are tagged i thought all gyros were greek all of this was not here yesterday noted! walk thru, one of about 4 i've seen onsite another one being put together noted! suddenly the ticket count raised on this ride by two overnight.... extreme, beware ride thru ride thru cars yet another walk thru, very popular this year. not inspected yet spare parts stored in the hitch put together finally must keep the rides clean this all popped up overnight crap to win not sure what this thing does other than spin, but it won't be spinning yet... orange = no good, lots of orange on the gondola's waxing his poll pricing this thing has had orange tags on it over half the ride for the last many years, you would think they would get a clue thought this was going to be a carousel, i was wrong, its a swinger! double hung banana with pubes! our friend the wacky worm is still being assembled, and it has a magic carpet section!! testing the cheese driller has started supposed to look like this when done double noted! tripple noted! it just looks slick a pink fire truck??? (its for breast cancer awareness) they had like 12 officers working on this for three days, tax dollars at work. and finally, the bandit doesn't have a chance. opening night pics Friday morning! -

^ Why so negative? I do agree tho, the fair is not what it once was with Bell's gone and all, but they are really trying to grab hold of quality exhibits to make the experience better. Anyway, on with nightime pictures of last evening (9.28.10 @ 8:30 PM). I would say about 60 percent of the rides are onsite, the others should arrive sometime today. It was amazing to watch how fast they were being put together. In the hour I was there, two large huss (knockoffs perhaps) were put together and ready to begin testing. Putting together the Ferris Wheels was also an interesting spectacle, within a few hours, the chasis was built and cars being added. Some of the pics are a little blurry, didn't have a flash with me worth having and no tripod. Will be onsite tonight, the transition will be remarkable yummmm...... so here we are at night time, pulling the rides off the trailers, if you never seen this done in person, it's crazy how fast they can setup this stuff up bumper cars himilaya brackets being laid in place not 100% sure what this is as it was still compacted in the trailer starship 2000 as they begin to unfold the walls adding the cars to the drive brackets walk thru giant wheel going up and getting its last section added before the gondolas sky ride getting fresh queue paint nerd shot one of the many exhibit halls on site, art deco style coke machine army paint ball the ford display outside coming together one of three carousel's sky scaper is almost finsihed and the drop tower being erected tomahawk the ride I am calling a top scan kiddie coaster #3, a wacky worm, with on ride photo the nicer of the carousel's another exhibit hall for "Made in Oklahoma" and the crap inside it drop tower is still flacid wtf? kiddie rides from earlier in the day have been put together still duct taped 3rd kiddie coaster, the fair can say they have 4 coasters now! 3rd carousel the 2nd ferris wheel to go up, this was neat to watch, hydro's raised the tower, then the drive motors slowly rotated the structure until it was all put together. its erect!@!@! scarmbler, they rotate the top 180 degrees and it falls in place the best funnel cakes ever, no joke, beats ANY theme/amusement park, and they only do this once per year what is this mess?? it's an ACE buffet!! i still like the indoor ford display for some reason indian nation and finally, incase you were worried, the butterflies are here -
Very nice, I love all of the rides available in Europe that aren't found in the States, one day I need to use all that German I learned in Middle/High School with a trip to Oktoberfest or the likes. Thanks again, great job.

Ok guys and gals, here is installment 2, occuring on Sept 27, 2010. A little progress has been made since Thursday as you will be able to tell. The rides are not yet on site. in case you were worried, the Comet II is still here the platform has been assembled for the sky scraper, the motor is also ready to be attached. food vendors are going in BEER GARDEN!!!! the power that will operate most of the attractions. The fairgrounds invested heavily in infratructre to avoid as many generators on the midway as possible. midway is still bare, where are rides you ask? Well, they are East Bound and wound, truckn' down the highway, they gonna do what we say can't be done...safely anyways, ha ha seriously, all rides are stingently inspected by the state, they don't let anything slip by, seriously, I am not joking, duct tape is not an accpetable fix in Oklahoma believe it or not. ford will have outdoor and indoor exhibits, they also sponsor all of the barns, which by the way are some of the most state of art in the country, especially the super duty barn Cars to be displayed during the fair have to have special not for sale designations by law exhibits are going in, including spas spas Ford exhibit going on, this is going to turn out to be really cool looking. and the girls they have working on it are really cool looking too more spas food as you can see, lots has been going on over the weekend people working, or taking a break the swing sets are finished no butterflies yet, but soon, real soon -
Greetings fellow TPR followers! Tonight I will post the first of several installments on what goes into setting up the Tulsa State Fair. This year, the fair featues the Comet II, a Schwarzkopf wildcat model advertised as the largest portable roller coaster in the United States. The coaster itself was erected about two weeks ago, long before the other rides, attractions, and vendors would show up. The only other location this ride has been this year was at the Wisconsin State Fair. I have permission from the Fair's Manager to be on site to document the work being done. Hope you enjoy! This post will document what occured on Sept 22, 2010. You will see that things progress slowly on the setup side until Sept 27 when things kick into full gear. The fair opens Sept 30. The Comet II, it used to reside at the Texas State Fair In 2002, it was placed in storage by a Kansas Company who would eventually refurb the ride. to my knowledeg, this is the first year it has operated since 2002 the midway contractor has stated recently that he doesn't know if it would return. The ride really isn't all that portable afterall and requires several weeks to assemble and disassemble. here lies part of an extreme ride, I believe called the sky scraper rides, food, muisc, beer, and games will line this stretch in a matter of days The sky ride is also being prepped ready for inspection this is where they will take your money a few rides on site, the ones used here are coming from New Mexico. The Fair there ends on Sept 26, 2010 inside the Expo (QuikTrip) Center, electrical is going in. Did you know this building is one of the largest column free span buildings in the world? 354,000 square feet of column free space to be exact. This building was previously used by the International Petroleum Exposition. this area will house all types of crap for you to buy and look at you can buy a portable building lots of empty space here. Ford will set up a huge display here amung other things 5,000 butterflies will live here, I'll let you count them all outdoor play sets and mobile homes in case you forgot who is sponsoring the building congrats!!
