  1. ^^^ IMO it looks like you might be trying to push an agenda, as a quick google search showed 9 of 10 results to show images or material related to cheetah's hunting their prey, not being hunted. The point to the name being you are the cheetah on the hunt. So what if the domain name was just registered, do you not think there are nerds like us checking on new name registrations on a regular basis? They've kept it a secret, and if they changed the name, so be it, it's their ride, their millions, and their choice. search results
  2. So here is my 4 cents on this totally wicked attraction: 1. Inatamin's OTSR's really don't bother me all that much, so I could care less 2. Cheetah Hunt, it's a name, not sure it's a cool coaster name, but that's what it's called and it describes what the ride is all about as do several coaster names like "dueling dragons" or "Mean Streak", so I'm fine with it. 3. three launched sections; needs no commentary, speaks loudly for itself 4. If they would've named it prowler, not only would the real prowler had come down to kick it's ass, it woulda brought an intamin cable to do it with
  3. From the WoF Facebook page about an hour ago: I had a funny feeling they were going to do something up front, I'm guessing a more permanent building as festhaus is used everyday and don't really see them putting in a ride at the very entrance to the park.
  4. I found comical that " Investigators will be looking at whether the Pony Express track featured an anti-rollback mechanism or a zone protection system designed to keep trains running on the same track separated" shouldn't they have done that prior to permitting the ride? link
  5. I have to ask, does this ride use the foam facades that it is commonly used today on many shopping centers, office buildings, and some casinos? If so, just ask the Monte Carlo, they got real lucky it didn't spread... Yes, I took the picture! Foam goes up in flames quick! (Building codes have been changed to prevent new construction with this type of setup)
  6. so let me get this straight, based on the theory of air pressure being required to close a break as has been suggested, then the break would no longer be fail safe as any cut in a line, loss of pressure in the tank, cut in the bladder, would then cause a serious failure in the system. A semi truck for example, uses air pressure to hold the breaks open, any loss in pressure, line cut, or bag cut, clamps the break tight, hence, fail safe. Just imagine the loss of air pressure during breaking after a 65mph run, the results would be devistating. Air compressors can fail, lose electric, line connections blown apart, etc. etc. the failures using a system that requires a break to have air pressure to close are almost endless, but not usually a reality, which is why I prefer the breaking used on patriot and prowler, plus its way smoother than hitting a hard break run. So in this particular setup, I'm trying to figure out where the 100% fail safe point is, that's all. Patriot has two magnetic breaks that slow the train before the breaking near and on the transfer tracks which uses a traditional air powered caliper style break. When the computer senses the ride has slowed enough, it retracts the mag breaks to allow the ride to continue to pass then puts them back in place for the next train. Prowler appears to be using a similar, but not exact, type of system. I'm hopeful that the advances in technology will allow this type of breaking combination to be used on all new designs, plus I would imagine it would be less wear and tear on the ride. all of that aside, and I'm not saying anyone is wrong, then the calibration on this style of break could have been so far off for the ride to not stop, that even an estop might not have helped. Here's a cool site to check out
  7. saving money < saving lives, hopefully SFGAdv will rething their decision especially after this as the "<" is currenty pointing the other direction in their case... just sayin, shame on them.
  8. well boys and girls, Worlds of Fun posted this out on the facebook page a few days ago... Titled "Not for Planet Snoopy! Construction starts soon! Like really soon." with an image file name of "safe_image" could it be that we are about to see where CF is going to spend some of the rest of their money? No date or any other info was given, checked the blog, nothing their either...not to mention I didn't see any flags last weekend, anywhere, so that makes me think water park maybe?
  9. Thanks! Titan has it's strong points, I feel more G's in the center of the train than anywhere else and rather prefer sitting there vs the front anyday. Shockwave has some surprising air time and forces in the loops, a quality ride still today. Mr Freeze is equally awesome, especially soaring the sky and getting pushed up a few feet, you get the feeling like you might go off the track, the front is money on this ride, and don't forget, they have a dark coaster too!
  10. based on the photos of the breaks that were posted here on the launch side (I have not ridden this ride, but will be there on the 25th if anyone wants to skip work and come out, tho I imagine I won't be riding this particular ride) it's to my understanding and knowledge they operate in a fail safe capacity. In other words, it takes something like air pressure, plunger, etc to open the calipers to allow the fin to move through. So, if power was cut, in theory, any open calipers would be instantly closed as the valves that let the pressure flow to the calipers would also close as it takes an electric signal to open the valve, no electric, valve closes, brakes close.
  11. Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it! One of these days I am going to make it that direction, until then, I'm like you, I can only look at the reports, and it just makes me want to travel more! Maybe next year you can come over and ride the new Texas Giant, it looks amazing!
  12. yes, thank you, I must go get my scrip refilled now
  13. much like herpes, this thread is the gift that keeps on giving. Many days later, a complete, well put together explanation by Wes, and some people STILL don't get it. Amazing. I've watched a couple of wooden coasters methodically be taken down over my lifetime, and helped out on one of them. These people do realize all they are buying is, well, the frame, system, and trains right?. It's virtually impossible and impractical to save the track bed. So on top of a few trucks, a storage building, and 300k, they are going to need an engineer, designer, contractor, and lots and lots of money and wood to put humpty dumpty back together again. I mean look at the little dipper in Chicago, I haven't seen that one in person, but followed the pictures posted around the community where there appeared to me that a nice portion of the wood structure was completely replaced for one reason or another. (If I'm wrong on that one, let me know) Just because you got the thing for less than 10k, doesn't make it a good investment, especially with no plan, no experience, no land to put it up on, and no money. Maybe the museum folks down in Arlington will appreciate the donation of a train and a piece of track for display purposes...just sayin
  14. Adam, you are very correct, we should blame Prowler for being far superior to anything else and causing this accident. Heck, even God was mad at it for being far superiror and took out is mainboard a few months back with a lightening strike.
  15. this thread is like the energizer bunny, unlike the donations on the .org site which seem to be running on eveready...just sayin
  16. ^^^ don't let the door hit you in a$$ on the way out, come to think of it... *edit, dang it, you guys post fast
  17. ^^^^^^ youobviouslyhavenoclueaboutthepointbeingmade. just saying.
  18. All I have to say is the past few days have been fantasticly fun (and funny) and I hope the new owners have taken notes and will put those notes to good use, otherwise, they will just continue to set themselves up for tremendous failure and the end result will be the same as if they wouldn't have bought the darn thing. so to Wes and Robb, many many thanks for the entertainment, I will now be changing my bank accounts, credit cards, paypal password, drivers license, and social sercurity number
  19. I'm guessing not, cuz like their project, they haven't figured out how to run the site yet, just sayin
  20. just goes to prove robb can dish it out and take it in! i don't know if i can handle two full days of comedy or not, I'm worn out from laughing so hard yesterday, and today, it just gets better. He can dish it and take it in? hahaha Sure. when you put it that way it sounds kinda kinky....but i think I made my point, at least I hope I did. So anyway, I was looking out in my back yard this morning, and thought, it sure could use a wooden coaster, just wish I had friends with trucks and 300k to help put one there... *edit* and then when just as I was honestly trying to get back to work and search for something on google, I see this LMAO!

  22. ^^ considering that Prince Desmond's efforts have landed the save the big dipper effort at the top of googles search lists, including other forum sites, just goes to show how a little effort can go along way. The Prince's efforts have drawn in the curioisty of people running across the ads and then in turn they run over to the .org site. If they really had a plan in place, I imagine they would be all over the Pepsi grant money in the same fashion as the blue streak. The Prince is even on fflickr google
  23. i think they hit a home run with these trains, I think, however, that it would be totally crazy if they added a mechanism to roll the "windows" down when the train left the station and then roll them back up when it hit the brake run, but then, for sure, someone would claim they got hurt when the windows rolled up....
