  1. This article is slightly more clear in suggesting that the "balloon" either hit the riders, or in my thoughts, tangled with the train casuing an abrupt slow down. http://www.wvec.com/news/local/Passengers-on-rollercoaster-hurt-during-storm-100090544.html
  2. Hopefully she had an acceptable amount of clothes on
  3. the ride has scrubbed off so much speed by the time it hits the mcbr that I just can't fathom anyone getting hurt on it, even if it wasn't a gradual stop and the brakes were clamped closed when the train arrived. Someones looking for a payday (and not the candybar)
  4. ^ Subject: I like Crap more than I like Donkeys Subject: Crap makes the world go round Subject: Nothing like a smelly bag of Crap I'm sure the name of the thread works too or the subject that might get your the bag of crap. I got a bag of flamming crap on my porch once, so now I have nightmares about anything that says bag of crap on it, LOL!
  5. The article doesn't say if the contraption became lodging the wheels or not, but right now, I'm just not seeing how people would've gotten hurt unless this thing slapped them all in the face at 50+ MPH, cuz the second true hill would be the MCBR which if in estop wouldn't cause many injuries as the train's already slowed down quite a bit....curious minds want to know.
  6. I feel sorry for Dan's aol account, actually, I feel sorry for AOL, especially during TPR trips, that mailbox has got to get hammered more than TPR at a keg tapping!!
  7. ^^^I think you are forgetting that your body's reacts differently when traveling backwards, at no time on dragster are you traveling backwards, therefor you really don't know what types of forces would be placed on the human body, only a slew of scientific tests would do that. You would still need ots restraints going up the tower backwards, regardless, it would be like going up a boomerrang backwards with nothing more than a lapbar, and we all know how much our bodies lean against those restraints going up. But when it all comes down to it, thats not what they are going to do with the ride apparently, so I suppose I will shut up.
  8. the forces of take off on a backwards running car would play havoc on the neck and upper body and require a custom restraint to assist in holding everything in place. For those who've been on Ka, or Dragster and sat in the back of the train, when it takes off you are plastered to the seat and can feel it throughout your body, now, imagine that backwards, you would be bent over so far forward you'd for sure pull a few things in directions they weren't meant to pull. If I were the park operator, I wouldn't want to take the chance of someone claiming a back and/or neck injury just so I could have something that a few people thought were "cool". After all America as a whole has slowly become lawsuit happy, in other words, the risks outway the benefits. Now, if they pulled you to the top of the tower, then shot you down towards the station at 100mph, turning the car backwards from it's current configuration would be acceptable with the proper restrains.
  9. < Pulls up a chair and watches the discussion.
  10. Not true, parts are still manufatured and readily available if a park wants them. Arrow wasn't bought by S&S for their expert ride creation, it was bought for their lucritive parts division This ride was ultimately scrapped due to metal fatigue. When the mechanics are welding on it every week, it's time to go.
  11. I think it's starting to get deep in here in regards to that flyer rumor. Serious, with the wide and varied locations of the utility markings, it is doubtful they would need that much room for that type of ride or need to relocate a crap load of stuff to dig a deep hole in the ground for a tower support.
  12. i was pretty sure they had an international work program, and I was right. In all actuallity I suppose its smart for CP to do this as they are pretty much assured these kids will stick around all summer. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/jobs/summer/international.cfm
  13. This is discouraging to hear, they must be sponsoring kids from over seas or something. Had a similar experience at Morey's Piers, only difference there was that the kids who didn't speak english well were relegated to entrance queue or loader duty only, they weren't running the rides.
  14. Whatever they do with it, lets just hope it's done right.
  15. I thought maybe it was some inside terminology that I wasn't aware of, glad to know I'm not completely in the dark. Thanks.
  16. WoF is getting some sort of new water attraction with a 40 foot tower, I just hope it's not a mini STR, and if it is, lets hope CP and CF get all the bugs worked out, I'd hate to think we would have take 2
  17. ^Ok, so since I'm a lover of the female, I must not be up on the lingo, but what is a "football bat" just curious...
  18. keep in mind the regular pass makes you wait the same amount of time as the advertised wait on the ride, effectively holding your place in line while you ride other things. Expect around an hour wait on Bizarro 30-45 minutes after park opening, and then watch it grow into a "why did I come here on a saturday just to wait around and stare at sky (or ladies) for a long #$% time" line. Chad "I don't go to parks on a Saturday unless it is a coaster event day and then leave between ERT Sessions" Carter **Edit, if you have a SP, you get 10 bucks off a FP**
  19. You have taken us on a fantastic journey Mr. Gator, I have very much enjoyed reading of your adventure and learning a bit of other cultures. Many Thanks!
  20. SFNE - Invest is a Gold Pass, you'll be glad you did. Can't speak for LC
  21. This is indeed a sad experience for the girl and her family. I have watched many a people patronize these but have never yet found the courage to try it out. In all reality there are only three rides I won't get on and this is one of them. I am honestly fearful the net won't catch me correctly or that I would land improperly and break my neck. I realize the breaking of the neck part is probably extremely unlikely, but, so is not being caught correctly by the net (i.e. speculation as to why contained in this thread). A few locations I have stood by as a spectator have had an airbag underneath as a backup, while others only have a mat for when they lower the contraption. As for the other two rides I won't get on. One being the famous intamin chop drop towers (superman @ kentucky kingdom incident) I just can't do it. Fear of a cable snapping and cutting off my feet?, no thank you. While there is no need for debate on whose fault it was or should've been, or whatever, the fact for me is that I won't get on one, period, no matter how much I really really want to, when walking to the line, I do a 90 and walk past. The only other ride I won't get on, Insanity: The Ride @ the Stratosphere in Vegas, sorry. I'll jump of the tower on their new contraption, but can't bring my self to sit in that thing, swing out, and spin around looking at the ground 950 feet down, no thank you.
  22. I think this just qualified as the classic quote of the week. loved the latest park on your journey. definitely something you don't see in America.
  23. As promised, here are pictures taken today of the sky ride and of what used to be Bell's Amusement Park. Enjoy This is the business end of the sky ride. The gondola's are stored here 50 weeks out of the year. You can see how far the ride goes back, about a 1/4 mile give or take. Closer view of the ride building, which also houses the motor. As you can see, they have painted the gondola's. and plastered them with advertisements of the fair and other businesses. this is the other end of the ride, on the west side of the fairgrounds. walk on in if you want to, I chose not to. Hello, Von Roll. hmmmm, what is this you say? why, its where Bells used to be. Now, it's a parking haven. Hope the neighbors are happy now. Winey, bitching, groaning, and going to court to get the park to close at 10pm and Zingo at 9pm. Jerks. See, we are no better than Six Flags, Tulsa invented wrapping rides! and finally a picture of the famous golden driller. He let us down on keeping a watchful eye out on the park, today, he just watches over the parking lot. So, just how famous is he? Google it and you will see.
  24. I'm happy it's been open for you, you are certainly luckier than I've been, on my 5 visits thus far, it's been down 75% of the time, anywhere from train troubles to drive line troubles to switch track troubles. Read on another site that superman is flying again. Looked from the pictures they had that the crane they are using on ka was the same crane they were using to get the gearbox repaired on the B&M. But I won't testify in court to that effect.
  25. ^These are the problems you deal with building the fastest, tallest, coolest, badest, and whatever "est" you can think of coaster, more wear and tear on the parts. Of course, has it really ever been the same since the lightening strike took out the motor and fried parts of the electrical? But in the end, better safe than sorry. Guess that makes three coaster down, and one for the count, or did they get the flyer back up?
