  1. The world's worst coaster, alledgedly? I've never been on it, but I've been on some SLC and Boomerang models. Those are OK for the most part, though they can be a bit bumpy. I didn't get to go on Ninja at SFOG, but I probably will next year.
  2. Someone needs to begin using Anton's designing methods on newer coasters. Why doesn't anybody make coasters this intense anymore, or the intense coasters all go to China?
  3. Off-topic, but does this mean that the old restraints from B&M have 16 locking positions?
  4. That is horrible - they only clone the crappy rides. Maybe they could clone a small, but good ride, like Balder? Or a Mega-Lite - oh, wait, they're already cloned, but the GP would think they look like kiddie coasters.
  5. I was actually slightly disappointed by the drop. It wasn't bad in any way, but I was expecting it to be brutal and I ended up getting less airtime than I get on B&M hypers (although it might just have been the seats that I took, though). It already has the length and making it vertical wouldn't harm it at all, I think. Try sitting in the back. It isn't sudden ejector. It builds up to the point where for a bit, you feel like you'll fly up to Canada.
  6. The 1920s Musik-Express got its operations permit at a time were restraints were not enforced by law. Even while newer rides needs restraints according to current law the old operations permit contunues to be valid as long as this rides exists. This law concept in Germany and later Europe is called "Bestandsschutz". This status is lost if this ride would get for example a new faster engine. Another example are original VW Beetle which have no seatbelts in the back and if you buy one you do not have to install them. So its essentially a grandfather clause? I was thinking somebody would mention "weak, sue-happy Americans" like with Mega-Lites. Did you know that heat lightning, the way most people think of it, is a myth? There's no such thing as lightning in the absence of a thunderstorm. "Heat lightning" is simply lightning that's so far away you can't hear it, since light travels further than sound. Well I thought that was interesting anyway. But yeah, that sounds like a pretty awesome ride. Nothing adds excitement like actual physical danger! Yeah, about heat lightning, I think I heard about it being a myth. Also, it wasn't raining at the time, so the storm wasn't that close.
  7. How is that allowed? Check this one out-
  8. Sounds like a really good plan to me. I would also make the first drop vertical as I thought that it didn't provide as much airtime as it could. The first drop of MF is insane. It doesn't need to be modified at all, maybe only slightly if it does. I wish they did this, but the GP wouldn't give a crap. Maybe if they did, MF would deserve its famous #1 status more.
  9. We all know that rides are extremely safe. However, have you ever had a ride experience that just seemed out of the ordinary and a bit dangerous? -On Mean Streak, despite having checked the belts, my friend's seat belt came undone during the ride. -On Magnum, we heard thunder one night before a Maverick ride night was scheduled. My friend's excuse was "heat lightning". We go on it, and as we climb the lift, "BOOM". Normal thunder and lightning. We end up getting a trimless ride with lightning around us and a pitch-black Lake Erie. My friend later described the incident as feeling like "a train to death." -On Kingda Ka (my first ride on it, if I remember correctly), we experienced what seemed to be a block violation. We seemed to advance into the launch position before the next train fully crested the tower. If that train had rolled back, I don't know if there would be anything to stop it, it might have slowly bumped into us. I would imagine it could stop early, but I don't know if there are physical brakes on that segment. Anyways, we launched after a few minutes of waiting.
  10. Cedar Point just posted a Christmas video. What I'm interested in is around 0:56 or so.
  11. If I'm not mistaken, Alan Schilke designed Magnum for the most part, but Toomer got the credit. Not saying Toomer was lazy - Arrow pushed the envelope for its time. Of course, you can't forget classic designers like Allen or Traver, or the modern designer Werner Stengel. That's just a few.
  12. I've never been on those. However, Raptor, Maverick, and other rides that are either old B&Ms or are rides by other manufacturers that are very intense are still popular in America and are not considered dangerous.
  13. Theming - Timber Mountain (KBF) and Monster Mansion (SFOG), and probably more that I rode long ago Ride experience - Most long rapids rides
  14. While Shockwave and Mindbender still have the good old lapbars. I blame California.
  15. The thing is, RSR is a highly complex ride as where X2 is simply a roller coaster. You would think it's the other way around. X2 is a highly complex roller coaster (as far as coasters go), but AFAIK the breakdown is not due to an issue with that, but with the chain lift (a component of almost any coaster), although the design of the chain lift and trains could have contributed to this.
  16. The fact that an addition that would prevent a highly unlikely accident (whichcould already be prevented with good training) could have a huge effect on insurance is ridiculous. Would better training for ride ops have an effect on insurance?
  17. I've only been on GK. I find it fun, although somewhat forceless and unexpectedly bumpy. However, it is definitely one of the most beautiful coasters ever.
  18. Steel - Kingda Ka Wood - Son of Beast (no loop) Wood (not defunct) - El Toro
  19. I don't think Cedar Fair subscribes to the quantity thing anymore, but not the Disney model either. Kind of a cross - they build huge record breaking rides, but spend long times between them to make improvements. They used to be like SF is now.
  20. It is a bit rough, but it beats you up in the best way possible. It is probably my favorite coaster, and it seems absolutely crazy that you would put ID, Woodstock, etc. above it. Are you really tall or something or just sensitive to headbanging?
  21. Just a little question, what restraints are worse on larger people - the NTAG/iRat restraints with seatbelts and new safety rules or El Toro's restraints?
  22. Then why did PTC have a virtual monopoly on woodie trains? Why didn't anybody come up with a solution (any by this I mean not as proprietary as the Millenium Flyers.)
  23. I wonder why they didn't scrap it or thoroughly overhaul it (to the point of being 90% new wood) after it was damaged, instead of opting to keep it running. I'm sure it was not profitable to run, considering how bad people say it was.
  24. As far as I know, the bad reputations of GIBs are almost exclusively their breakdowns and other issues, not the ride experience. I've heard they are intense, but I've never been on one. Hopefully I'll visit SFNE at some point - the Invertigos are not bumpy and IMO, Boomerangs are tolerable and a great waste of time when other rides have big lines.
