Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
GigaG replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You could probably fit an entire themed area with a new RMC woodie inside Mean Streak without even touching it! Do that, and Cedar Point jumps up a few notches in my book. The next big addition should be back there, if for no other reason than to get rid of Mean Streak... and also disperse the crowd away from Maverick a little bit. Well, I thought that the construction of Eden Musee (which cut the queue capacity to a fraction of what it used to be) was a sign that it would not be renovated, but I still hope for RMC. Mean Streak is not that huge that you can fit a new coaster in its infield. Maybe they could build Space Spiral II there when they retire Eden Musee's building. Of course, MS is kinda unpopular, so I see it as one of the next coasters on CP's chopping block - either a complete renovation or a new coaster. I imagine a newwoodie will go up soon after that, as the RMC treatment or demolition of MS would reduce CP's woodie count to a puny 1. -
Favorite Roller Coaster of Each Park Chain
GigaG replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Robb, where is Maverick in terms of Cedar Fair coasters? Second, third, etc? Honestly, I don't remember liking i305 that much, but I wasn't quite as coaster nerdy then and it was Intrimidator. I can't wait to give it another chance. I've never been to any chain but CF and SF (and Disney, but I can't remember that - too young!) CF: Maverick SF: El Toro (probably) -
But isn't the chain for X2 the same as any other list chain? Every type of coaster is probably designed to latch onto its own lift a different way, not to mention the length of the chain has to be spot-on. For example, most B&Ms (with the exception of Hydra, Nemesis Inferno, and I believe Griffon) have to travel at the same speed to engage the lift (notice the drive tires before the lift), most Arrows have to run onto the lift faster than the lift is going (on Arrows that exit the station onto the lift directly and don't have drive tires like most Arrows, the lift runs really slow at first to let the train on - think Flight Deck/Bat at KI), and others like some Eurofighters (I think at least DDD does this) have to come to a full stop and wait for it to catch like a continuously looping cable lift - which is yet another different system used for lifts. As for rolling back on YOLO, I saw it roll back down the loop into the station during tests. Each launch was progressively faster, so they were probably testing the right launch speed.

No I would think that the sensors on the lap bar would trip and tell the attendant that the restraint is not closed enough. I am thoroughly convinced that the seat belts on Goliath are in place only for covering Six Flags should anything happen. Honestly, the seat belts are not required, especially on a ride like Goliath with not much airtime. Just make sure the restraints are over the thighs and close, and not on the stomach. Problem solved, no belts required.

With all the wind from the lake and CP's sensitivity to wind, along with the PolerCoaster being a new concept (albiet using a tested type of coaster), I don't think that it would fit CP. It would be cool, but likely closed a lot. -
Screamscape retweeted NL developer Tom Zeliff (@ride_op) who said this- And also, he said that YOLO's second train is stopped in the tunnel This seems like an unusual breakdown for SFMM, because it logically should be that the ONLY train running got stuck. Back to Goliath. While I understand seatbelts and think they are good backup safety devices if the ops can minimize the delay between dispatches, having to go through two separate restraint checks is overkill and frankly, a load of crap. Is this an America-only thing, and how do safety checks go in other countries? I think I read that they don't even do the checks on Expedition GeForce, but that was a long time ago.

But Ninja was manufactured in 1989, five years before the first SLC. I have noticed that Ninja's layout is like a warped SLC layout. The butterfly is kinda like a roll-over, the Reverse Sidewinder is obviously a reverse sidewinder, and the corkscrews replace the barrel rolls.

Maybe it was intended for an accident where there was immediate danger inside the capsule, such as a fire (like the Apollo 1 tragedy.) -
I saw KK use them in 2005 (opening year). Didn't see it last year when we were back there. People also seem to forger that X2 also has separate load/unload stations that are never used. Yeah I noticed that too. I remember when I came back after riding it around opening, I thought "Wait, didn't you used to get off here?" When I went, I thought that that back platform should have been used to unload. Then again, this is SFMM. Oh well, the current system is BETTER THAN NOTHING!

As for things I've ridden- Cedar Point- Wildcat - Didn't ride it much Disaster Transport - I have more experience with it than Wildcat, but why not? White Water Landing - It was a family tradition when it was there and although its replacement is likely my favorite steel coaster, I'd love to experience this classic flume again. Chaos - One of my favorite flats... Kings Island- Son of Beast - It sounds crazy, but I want to experience this massive (though bumpy) ride one more time.

YOLOCoaster's capacity is now comparable to a poorly run Wild Mouse. Wow. Again, why can't they train ride ops better? Eventually, the GP are going to realize that the management sucks. One of the problems may be the ops but honestly I blame the people who can't listen when the ops clearly tell them to not pull down the lap bar. Every single time a train was in the station the ops would tell them before boarding to not pull down the lap bar and they still do. Thus forcing them to recheck the entire train. As an op I would find this very frustrating if people can't listen to a simple request. The other problem lies in how the seat belts where put on the train once you pull down the lap bar theirs no way for the ops to check the seat belt so the request of not pulling the lap bar is implemented. And yes the slow down is probably the result of the ops moving slower too. Cedar Point used to have a rule not to pull down the bars yourself on TTD, but they don't do that anymore and besides, I don't think they held up the whole dispatch to recheck if somebody did.

Most Intense Waterslide Type???
GigaG replied to dropzonefan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even though I've never been there, Der Stuka is not a trapdoor slide. The Bomb Bay - the slide next to it - is. DS: BB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXZLpE5oyTg -

^Awesome! Anyways, does anybody know who made the east slides at Soak City (besides Dragster H20, obviously)? -

Cedar Point's old speed slides had good airtime (but got replaced by a racing slide) and body bowl slides are kinda crazy. However, I've never been on a trapdoor drop slide. -

You mean Iron Dragon? Well, its more intense than ID, but shorter. As for Ninja, I don't really remember it that well. -

Can you compare the negative Gs to other small-but-powerful coasters (Mega-Lite, Maverick, etc.) -
I would love it.. Except for that capacity. 8 passengers per train? Really? As if EVERYTHING ELSE in the park didn't have bad enough capacity already! Twister II is the second most popular ride in the park, with Mind Eraser being the top. Everyone here loves Twister II so it'd make no sense to replace it. All in for a new woodie, though. An SLC is the most popular there? Is it a good or bad one?

While the Superman clones are cliche, short, and rather repetitive, the pretzel loop is intense. If anything, that part is NOT a snoozefest. -

The next two things wil probably be refurbs of T2 and Twisted Twins. However, the Twisted Twins refurb, if it is an RMC all-around makeover, could be like a new coaster. -
Goliath - Never has had an ejection incident, only one fatality was medical-related. YOLOCoaster - Never has had a fatality, seems to have tight lap bars. Colossus - Has had an ejection incident, but I believe the MCBR was added in response, and I think the trains were different then. YOLO is out of the picture because it is new, but Goliath has never ejected anybody and Colossus was a whole different ride when it ejected somebody. I am getting tired of Six Flags' new seatbelt-happiness and stapling, but now this is in law in California, for a ride that was designed to be perfectly safe without seatbelts to be forced to have them? By the way, how many rides have been a victim of the California government? Revolution - Cannot have OTSRs removed without totally new trains. Windseeker - Missing ladder, if I'm right. All coasters in CA with lapbars and no seatbelts - Now will have seatbelts.
