Six Flags Over Texas (SFOT) Discussion Thread

I wonder how she ended up with only her top half on the tunnel. Did she fall on a support or sharp edge at a velocity that could have caused such a gruesome injury? Anyways, I wonder why the ride op never tried to get the ride stopped. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

It would require some sort of forehead strap or something to make it comfortable. Plus, its not that necessary. Not to say it wouldn't be interesting - maybe turn part of the train around a la Swarm? -
^Probably because a floorless coaster is easier to market to the GP and has little difference.

I call it a pretzel knot. That's what it is. It crosses over, therefore it is a pretzel knot. -
What should be the next Six Flags clone?
GigaG replied to Woodie Warrior's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Racing El Toro... sounds... interesting. LOL. We might get a racing RMC if SFMM keeps both sides on the rumored Iron Colossus. As for clones, there's a lot flying about X-Flight. I don't know. You never know what SF will do. They tried this already. Six Flags Astroworld - Texas Cyclone Six Flags Magic Mountain - Psyclone Six Flags Over Georgia - Georgia Cyclone Six Flags Great America - Viper Only two of them still even exist and only one of them is even rideable. I think this experiment proved to be a FAIL which is why they finally stopped cloning them! Robb, which one do you consider rideable? I've only been on GA Cyclone which, while rough, gave some great rides! -
That's a really good one... I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned more. That's horrible and stupid. People shouldn't be throwing stuff off of trains. Do you think if Dragon Challenge was in Europe or somewhere other than the US, it would still duel? On another note, as for g-forces, what about this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonsault_Scramble

Actually, Georgia Cyclone's 4th drop had some great ejector airtime in the back when I rode it in the rain (repeatedly.) I think its trims were off. Anyways, it sounds weird, but I loved that thing! It could use a bit more topper track, but I think its a good woodie. The airtime literally felt dangerous. Like, literally, dangerous if your lapbar wasn't quite down enough. Of course, that's why most coasters with loose lapbars have seatbelts.

Revolution was mentioned. I must agree, that was one of the most neutered rides I've been on. It crawls through its layout. I didn't find the OTSRs that rough, but it was nevertheless a mediocre ride.

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
GigaG replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Mine train to standup coaster? While I know it was a new concept at the time, it seems completely and utterly stupid and idiotic today. -
Do you have any evidence that whiny GP got the ride trimmed?
-
What are the worst "neuters" on rides? Mean Streak - Take an already somewhat boring (with just some potential) ride and trim it to death. That's Mean Streak for you. Green Lantern (SFMM) - Apparently, its Swedish cousin spins more or at least used to (Insane might have gotten neutered too). Its also loaded so it doesn't spin. Still a fairly fun ride, but also fairly painful. According to the ride op, the reason that the cars are loaded in a balanced way is that if the vehicle comes in upside down or sideways and can't be rotated, maintenance must be called. That reeks of bull feces to me. You're saying that Intamin's systems to right the car (it DOES have a system for that, right?) plus ride ops that can spin it can't work? Colossus (SFMM) - After what I believe was an ejection incident a long time ago ago, this ride got airtime hills replaced by a block brake. Not like that block brake is needed - since when does Colossus ever run 3 trains? I never saw it running more than 2 while I was there, and I am not sure if they even have 3 of the same colored train! I'd take a seatbelt on this for a more intense ride - its a fairly smooth woodie for its age, but it is just boring. Any others that you can think of?

Best and Worst Arrow Mine Trains
GigaG replied to bgwfreak777's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is simple. And Gemini can be counted off to the side - it isn't really a mine train. What are the best and worst "genuine" Arrow mine trains that you've been on? For me, best is almost certainly Adventure Express. It has fairly good theming (for Cedar Fair, especially - at least they kept the theming after acquiring KI) and is speedy and rather intense. My one or two rides on SFGAdv's mine train were good, too. I also found Magic Mountain's interesting. Worst is harder - CCMR is boring and somewhat repeats itself, Dahlonega is boring but fun, and based on videos, Carolina Goldrusher (which I went on forever ago) is just weird. I've never been on Thunderation (isn't that one the better ones?) or many other ones. What is your opinion? -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
GigaG replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I feel like there is a contradiction here. If they have Iron Dragon then they aren't lacking it. They also have Gemini, Blue Streak, Mine Ride. How many more starters do you need? I just don't understand the point that was trying to be made in that post. You obviously don't understand what we are talking about from a parental point of view. All those other rides you mentioned, Gemini, Blue Streak, Mine Ride all have a height restriction of 48", which is the same as Millennium Force and Magnum!. Iron Dragon's is 46" which means it will cater to younger kids sometimes a year, maybe even two years before they will be old enough or tall enough to ride those other ones. This is actually a complete different discussion (and if you guys wish to discuss, I'll throw this out there) about how I feel Cedar Point REALLY needs to take a closer look at their height restrictions and have a better balance for their rides that will cater to younger riders. Let's just take these four rides in question - Iron Dragon, Blue Streak, Gemini, Mine Train. IMO there should be no reason why these coasters aren't in the 42" - 44" height restriction range. Ninja at SFMM has a 42" height restriction, so did Big Bad Wolf. I'm pretty sure Top Gun at Kings Island did also when it first opened. If rides like Phoenix, Twister, GASM, Screamin' Eagle, Judge Roy Scream, or Tremors can have a 42" height restriction, why can't Blue Streak? And the Mine Train? Big Thunder Mountain on both coasts is 40" and even a more intense mine train like the one at SFFT is 42". Why is Cedar Point's 48"? Gemini is the only one I would say that is *maybe* questionable. But what about something like 48" to ride alone or 44" with a parent? This has been my one big issue with Cedar Point is that unless you're 48", you're stuck with kiddie rides, antique cars, and a few flats. And that's sort of a bummer. I really would love to see Cedar Point take a close look at the height restrictions of some of their rides and make the necessary alterations to bring them down a bit just so that some younger kids will have more "big stuff" to do in the park. --Robb I do want to point out that SFMM's mine train is 48". I would say that CCMR is slightly deserving of its restriction - it has extremely loose restraints from which a curious child could squirm out of, and needs new restraints that come more on the lap - the current ones are not quite accommodating for larger people, but seem rather loose. SFOG's mine train is not very big, and has no seatbelts (rather, it uses a tight lapbar), and SFMM's is similar (although SFOG's is 42" and SFMM's is 48") Blue Streak is a fairly intense coaster for its size (sudden bumps of airtime), but 48" is a bit much. Iron Dragon could use a decrease in restriction. CCMR could use new trains. By the way, CF does have rides with lower restrictions than their Six Flags analogues. Bizarro is a ride where you have to be 54" tall, while the similar MF is only a 48" restriction. Likewise, Vortex as KI has a 48" restriction, while its big brother Viper at SFMM has a 54" restriction. I am also happy that Gatekeeper is 52" as opposed to the usual B&M 54" (although 50" would have been nice), and if I am correct, Banshee will be the same way. By the way, has anybody noticed that by the time you are 52", you can ride the freakiest rides at CP? While Raptor and Mantis are intense coasters, and Witches Wheel is an unusual flat, most of the rides with shock value are 52" restrictions. This includes which is, in my opinion, likely the best steel I've been on - Maverick. Finale - I'm actually going to try to write a letter to Cedar Fair about my experiences, problems, and suggestions. I will include CF's dreaded reride and height restriction problems in the letter. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
GigaG replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My exact thoughts. Personally, I'd like to see it get some love, some upgrades, and lower the height restriction to 42" like all the other non-Cedar Fair Arrow suspended were. I think it needs 3 trains again (what's stupid is that they removed the one because people were being "rushed onto the ride".) Also, I think floorless trains would do wonders (imagine flying over the lake with nothing below you.) Finally, I agree that the height restriction is a bit high. Although, you should be happy it isn't KI's Bat/Flight Deck, another CF suspended. That has a 48" height restriction, if memory serves, which is pretty much a load of shit. -
Nigloland! New Coaster for 2014
GigaG replied to msep003's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think I read Nigoland originally wanted a Mega-Lite, but it was too expensive. Could Mack be plainly ripping off the Mega-Lite? By the way, that first hill looks like a Stengel dive. -

I like Iron Streak. It works. But, if CF did RMC, they might be able to come up with a name outside the trend.
