  1. I don't know, but what is interesting is how Disney is really one of the main trend setters of the industry and how they have this and other parks don't. And some people like to say "well, Disney rides aren't as extreme" but I can carry anything I want to on Rock N Roller Coaster which launches to 55MPH in the dark and goes upside down several times. I really wish other parks would follow suit, especially a certain competing park that not only won't let you carry on any loose items, but makes you put EVERYTHING including your phone in a fluffy, fluffy bunny filled with medicine and goo, go through a metal detector, and even get wanded like you're going through TSA. Want to know how much fun it is to stand in an hour long line when you're not even allowed to have your phone? Not fun at all. I refuse to ride another coaster where I have to walk through a metal detector in order to ride. No coaster is worth that volume of stupidity. To me, the clear reason as to "why" is that Disney spends more on insurance than everyone else with the idea that it brings them happier customers. Seems to be working. As for that "other park": The metal detectors are straight up why I didn't book a trip this year. That you have to pass through them twice to get on a coaster at minimum (once before entering Citywalk, again at each ride) is frankly outrageous to me. I've heard people give me a justification and it is still BS. If you're worried about weapons being brought on board, that does NOT validate the decision to ban all loose articles from the ride. I would have happily dropped 1500-2000 dollars this year on a long weekend there. They got no money and I ended up going to Europe instead where I encountered metal detectors a whole two times and only once at a park.
  2. Saturday was good (you could even crank out some rides late last night even with the crowds), but today pretty much sucked. Felt like Opening Day Part Deux with the number of ride and food booth closures. The general lack of deals as advertised for "Good Buy" day also felt as if that was a disingenuous move on their part for promotion. I suppose they advertised nothing specific, and so by offering almost nothing for Sunday specific deals, they delivered. Still disappointing.
  3. Here's another question: "Summer 2017" definitely isn't opening day for Dollywood. So...when do these open?
  4. In case anyone is still confused on the manufacturer, Ride Entertainment just posted that they sold it on FB. They're the broker for Funtime in the US.
  5. I'd agree that HFE would buy an Intamin ride if there was a product they produced that they were happy with and felt was cost effective, but Gerstlauer and B&M aren't cheaper companies than Intamin. Pound-for-pound, they're pricier.
  6. A) The national U-6 unemployment rate is about 2 points higher than the lows of 2006/2007 but still dropping. That's the "real unemployment rate." B) Does your brother place people with felony convictions at any of these places? If the answer is "no", then are they sitting around "gaming the system" or are they unable to work? C) Paying overtime is always cheaper than hiring and training new people. Overtime pay doesn't require health benefits or 401K matching funds. The issue then becomes of productivity, which typically begins to fall off after a certain point. But you knew that, because you have an educated opinion on the internet. Also, you knew that if they did the hiring, those people currently making $55,000K/year wouldn't, since that pay is reliant on them working in excess of 40 hours a week.
  7. Roughly as many people were murdered in Chicago this summer as in Australia last year. 4 people dying at one of the country's biggest tourist attractions is a very big deal. If 4 people died at Disney World, half the Sentinel the next day would be nothing but coverage of that.
  8. Here's who manufactured the vehicles: http://www.masterglass.com.au/project/theme-parks/ The ride has operated nearly 30 years without major incident; maintenance will likely be looked at very strongly.
  9. Note: Intamin may also have acted as the broker for the attraction but not manufactured it. A lot of "Intamin" rides are that way prior to the late 90s.
  10. POST REMOVED: The ride was NOT from Intamin. Please do your research before making posts or assumptions about an accident.
  11. Unless they significantly increase the lift, launch the train at some point, or give it steel wheels, it would never make it back to the station with that layout. It really shouldn't be that tough to keep it running decently as is. The entire ride is almost all straight lines. Outlaw Run has steel wheels.
  12. You mean like having a closing ceremony for the ride and burial procession led by a character with the initials RMC?
  13. Because "locals" weren't the only people going to SeaWorld. If your theme park is reliant on attendance from out of the area and loses/never obtains that support, then you fail. Furthermore, if your rationale is to combine the two gates to drive an attendance increase and longer stays and that never happens, then you may still fail on the basis of not meeting the required amount of entries even if you were to have maintained the previous high attendance figures.
  14. Because it takes no advanced thought whatsoever.
  15. What I've learned from this thread is I need to break kayfabe and hang out with boldikus sometime IRL.
  16. It is astonishing in every way possible. Its like you're shooting at cardboard cutouts of stuff drawn for Sports Illustrated for Kids. They should hand you some sort of collectible miniposter at the exit featuring sports stars of the mid 90s like Clyde Drexler. Your life is poorer for not having experienced it.
  17. The most relevant talking point/argument with regards to Cedar Fair's ownership of Geauga Lake is simple: Did they act in a fashion that gave the park the best chance at survival? Blaming customers for not buying a substandard product is a thing conmen and crappy businessmen too.
  18. The capacity is ass and there's a ton of expense to power the ride compared to a traditional lift hill. There's also Firehawk, which is the worst full size coaster in the park and somehow more pathetic in terms of capacity. Cedar Fair has been axing stuff like that in favor of having good/reliable rides, not getting rid of attractions which are still popular and eat people. Might as well just bring up the Beast again.
  19. Kings Island is open a fraction of the time of SFMM's calendar and gets more people through the turnstiles. There's no 10% attendance increase to be had. Nor is there any real reason to ditch the Racer and all the capacity it brings to the table. If they're gonna go through the trouble of replacing a ride at that park, they'll replace the money sinks and capacity nightmares one can only access walking through Racer's structure.
  20. Honestly guys, when the RMC opens, I'm expecting a ride or two max opening year like I am with Valravn. You'll find me enjoying the short lines up front with Valravn and Millennium Force (and probably Dragster at opening too).
  21. At this point, no one is changing anyone's mind until probably Winter Chill Out. If/When there's no announcement by then, I just sincerely hope the "2017!" doesn't start venting their frustrations for Cedar Point not fulfilling their desires precisely as hoped. I know that they will, but it would just be nice for a change if that didn't happen.
  22. You're gonna need to use a car ride of some sort eventually, because there's no public transport to the park. I just did a quick search and Bus 102 runs late; closest stop is Pine and Emmett in Bristol. Buses depart from there at 10:23PM, 11:23 PM, and 12:23 AM.
  23. I love how in a matter of hours, we've got people proclaiming that it is definitely for 2017 because RMC is putting all their resources into it, while, in a totally unrelated thread, T-Rex track apparently appears at Silverwood. Too good for words.
  24. http://www.state.nj.us/dca/divisions/codes/codreg/pdf_regs/njac_5_14A.pdf Plenty of laws which make no sense are on the books. That isn't one of them. Whatever it is that is actually the cause for the delay, the fact remains that the ride was announced 14 months ago. They've had over a year to deliver the goods and managed to completely and totally miss their operating season. They weren't building a giant themed indoor attraction with a bajillion animatronics and projectors. Universal managed to get Transformers in Orlando done in less time than a small footprint single train launched coaster. Now they're promising to try and get this thing open even if its December 10th and sleeting. LOL indeed.
  25. Even if there's only 15-20 full timers, that's enough to staff a ride for one day. Probably the least of their problems. Anyways, boldikus hit most of the major parts. I'd add to that one additional item: Wildwood has a convention center which winter events can take place in. Ocean City does not.
