  1. Same here. Also doesn't KD have a train? That would probably be in the top 5-6 there.
  2. Conneaut Lake Park has reported in bankruptcy court a $388,330 net profit loss on operating revenues for January through July of 2016. In other words, Conneaut Lake Park has grossed $388,330 less than they have spent in upkeep and general operating costs for the current year. This does not include costs incurred with the ongoing bankruptcy process, but simply what it takes to keep the place operational. Link. Not because I think the number is wrong, but because I want to read the report and see how much of it is debt service.
  3. Canada's Wonderland has a disgusting flat ride lineup - Giant Enterprise, UFO, Top Scan, Cliffhanger, Sky Roller, Jump2, Revolution, Windseeker, Swing Around, Calypso, and now this. Some of those only have 1 or 2 other examples in North America, if at all (that Jump2 is the only one ever built).
  4. ????? People try to rationalize with what they know.
  5. Yeah, and Ouimet did a lot of really basic, common sense things well. The stock price is dramatically up since he took over, and that's not an accident. Kinzel had a great mentality for a specific time period and now that times and the industry changed, he didn't change with it. Kinzel's vision tried to get Cedar Fair sold for $11.50 a share to a private equity firm. They'd probably be flopping around right now like SEAS if that had happened.
  6. Yeah, about that. Hopefully it ends up in the Entertainment book.
  7. Save a few bucks on insurance. Trains are just about the only rides without 'em in the chain. I'm including ferris wheels.
  8. I don't think bringing in visitors from overseas is a realistic expectation, but bringing in additional revenue for those making the trek down from Ottawa, Kingston, or even Montreal probably is. They're not gonna build a 600 room hotel resort - they'll build something probably akin to a Towneplace Suites but with Canada's Wonderland branding. It seems entirely reasonable to me.
  9. Knoebels Facebook They seem to love bringing in a carnie ride for that. I remember the year they had a Spidermania over in front of Phoenix.
  10. Oh, they DID do something...and it was ABSOLUTELY F**KING HILARIOUS in the most pathetic way possible! LMAO It still makes me laugh to this day to think there were people insanely stupid enough to think they could have moved an entire roller coaster with some locals and their pick-up trucks! I would have LOVED to see a picture of what would have happened when they loaded an NAD train car into the back of a Toyota Tacoma! LOL http://www.savethebigdipper.com We were sadly prevented from seeing such a wondrous moment. But at least then it would have been a real effort, even if it flopped dramatically and with many LOLs.
  11. Paradise Pier is a 30ish year old hotel purchased by Disney and refurbished to be the "bargain choice". It also has an epic walk to the park gate because they closed off its entrance to DCA. I think you're at least as well off or better off staying at something like the Fairfield Inn across Harbor.
  12. On the upside, if Cedar Point botches your renewal, you can get if fixed right away and then maybe split to Kings Island for a park that's got a couple weeks under its belt. Seriously though, opening weekend is a consistent nightmare and should be avoided at all costs.
  13. The lawsuit looks like it doesn't have much merit and the guy making it apparently has litigated against Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Cheesecake Factory in the past. My guess is that he's hoping to use the suit to obtain a settlement and get some cash. Here's him asking Anon for help a few months back: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:xQwLuhrJckUJ:https://www.facebook.com/ArmyAnonymous/posts/648449135311036+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us
  14. Someone will be disappointed and upset and I look forward to laughing at that person.
  15. I can see why people would be bummed, but angry is different than bummed. A lot of keyboard warriors out there talked big about trying to move Big Dipper and none of them did a damn thing.
  16. However cold it may be to say, when Cedar Fair bought the park, they bought the rights to do whatever they wanted to it. What was inherited from Kinzel's mistakes (and he made 'em just as much as Six Flags) wasn't anything that could be repaired. However, and this gets to the heart of what's happening here - there are some people in the coaster hobby who are loud and boisterous and very angry still at the company for what happened. Dick Kinzel is probably guzzling a fifth of scotch, sitting on his balcony in Sandusky, thinking for the 293rd time how stupid Luminosity is. He and his team hasn't been in charge for a long time, and it was time to move on awhile ago. Because of that fringe, the legit opinions get kinda pushed down.
  17. Why are you convinced that they're going to announce what is happening with Mean Streak in the near future? Why are you convinced they're not? Serious question! The Kübler-Ross Model, also known as the "five stages of grief" is as follows: 1) Denial 2) Anger 3) Bargaining 4) Depression 5) Acceptance We are currently in stage 3: Bargaining. At some point well after hitting 5, we'll start on a new hype cycle, perhaps even a very long and extended one like Kings Island's for Mystic Timbers. Then perhaps all with relation to Hurler will be revealed. Or perhaps not, because maybe they have no actual plans for it right now.
  18. Why are you convinced that they're going to announce what is happening with Mean Streak in the near future?
  19. KD's not gonna call a press event for their park's 2017 announcements and leave out the major capital expenditure for next year, especially since that expenditure would be desired to be open in 7 months time and nothing has happened there as of right now. Like I said before: As long as Hurler is standing, any number of things can happen to it. It can be RMCed, it can be GCIed, it can be torn down, it can immaculately ascend into heaven, it can be transformed by a wizard into gold or a mountain of weed. All are possibilities.
  20. Here's something different: Has anyone ever noticed that you can use Google Street View to put yourself on the dirt road that passes by the KD graveyard? There's a fantastic mix of junk there.
  21. People are convincing themselves that this can't be it and that Kings Dominion is just trying to get them even more hyped up for RMC Hurler. So absolutely not. FACT: There is NO proof, anywhere, that RMC Hurler isn't still happening at some point. In fact, there are some very legitimate, FACT based reasons, to think "there's really more coming." So, those who believe it may still happen, have just as much reason to think so, as those who don't think it's going to happen. Again... This thread has become a travesty because of people on both extremes, and neither one being willing to just accept the other as having a valid place in the conversation... It could happen as long as Hurler stands, but if it is going to occur, can we all agree it isn't for 2017? And that there is no announcement imminent in relation to this?
  22. Suggestion: Start authoritatively claiming this. Do it enough and it becomes true, like "Leviathan was intended for Knotts and switched at the last minute!" Who is to say that it isn't a fact? Facts are whatever you believe, man. The chinaman is not the issue. They're a Michigan company. Actually really surprised to see them in Canada. The mountain can and has fit rides and attractions. The Eiffel Towers can't. Also - projection show at night. Mountain wins in a landslide. SUCK IT HATERS.
  23. People are convincing themselves that this can't be it and that Kings Dominion is just trying to get them even more hyped up for RMC Hurler. So absolutely not. Just one. Poor madmax, we barely knew thee.
  24. They definitely used some of that cash for Breakers (and other things), but that wasn't because they had to. Multi-national corporations with ~$5 billion in valuation can find credit. They chose to not put that debt on the ledgers. It was wise for many reasons.
