Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DirkFunk replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, if it isn't for 2017, that means it is for 2018, which means....maybe next July or August? -
The TMNT on the entrance gate looks like he's been frozen mid-plummet to his death. Nickelodeon is dark AF. (btw unrelated but notable - I recently learned that the kids book series Animorphs is all about committing war crimes and they even go in front of a tribunal and at one point turn handicapped kids into animals so that they are killed and that was possibly the wildest thing I'd ever heard. so bring on the Animorphs theme park obviously)

There's plenty of budget friendly motels in the area. Breakers being revamped and turned into something closer to what it was originally intended to be a century ago - first word in luxury beachfront property on the Great Lakes - means sometimes it'll cost a lot. We got "spoiled" by the place being a dump for most of our lives. Instead, just realize it is supposed to be more like the Inn At Bay Harbor than a Best Western now and is priced appropriately based on dynamics. If you're the kind of person who only stays in $50/night rooms, it just isn't gonna be an option for you any more. It certainly isn't somewhere I go as much either now because I can't justify it either when the Country Inn and Suites or Motel 6 Sandusky Huron are so cheap. -

I'd also stay there if I was planning a long weekend around being at the Point where I wasn't just hitting rides. To some degree, I miss the Bon Aire rooms because as mediocre as they were, they were cheap, had flat screens, and were right by the Magnum entrance. I just plan differently now (and honestly, I spend less). -

They're all suites rather than standard rooms. I dunno, I'm not that shocked by it? -

How. HOW. Tivoli doesn't make the list and it spanks EPCOT hard. No big deal. Don't lose sleep over it. -

How many nights did you select? They show the total price for all nights combined, not the per night price. -

I recently had someone try to explain to me that the DeLorean was misjudged by the media as a sports car, which led to it being misjudged as bad since it can't get up to the 88MPH famed in Back To The Future without being pushed or dropped off a building. I asked him how many seats it had - he responded correctly with "two". I asked him who designed it: he knew that too and that the guy is most well known for designing supercars. I asked him how much it cost when it came out: the equivalent of $65,000 today. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, probably going to be assumed to be a duck by the public. Same goes with a 150 or 200 foot tall water coaster. No ride with that big a drop is going to be marketable as a family attraction. If I had to guess, having a more shallow drop may allow rolling friction to keep the speeds down for when it hits the water. But that's purely a guess. -

Because they are made for families. Nearly 200ft drop, 52 in height requirement, yeah, Divertical definitely is one helluva family ride. -

Yup. Plus it isn't like it was some heat of the moment thing. The shooter left the park, was seen apparently mulling it over, and then went back to basically commit something akin to a drive-by before abandoning his car some distance away. Imagining the world a kid lives in which that option becomes the best one is pretty horrifying. But it happens a lot. Way too often. -
Yes. Awesome! Thank you so much! Actually, now that I think about it, they'll tell you if this is not the case. There may be a ride that you're given a specific time frame for and only one ride, but otherwise, it should be unlimited (unlike Hershey and Kennywood). Someone will correct me soon enough.

Knott's is pretty rowdy for Halloween, but I don't know anyone that's like "You have to go to Worlds of Fun!" -

My thoughts are that Cedar Fair paid them to write it. LOL that sounds about right. USA Today doesn't make it any great secret that they sell coverage. -

That's rock solid for a park of this nature. But like I said earlier, it doesn't matter what the attendance was because they were going to get closed no matter what. -
This is the best thread now. The best.

This is the same company that put seat belts on its ferris wheels. Of course it has to do with insurance costs. -

I've been in this stupid hobby for 20 years and there's nothing now about park employees that's any worse than it was in 1996. As an example, here's some guy's trip report from SFNE, back when it was Riverside - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/rec.roller-coaster/riverside$20park$20TR$2096|sort:relevance/rec.roller-coaster/55vw1xRKcxM/OeaXyAAVFiQJ In fairness, Riverside was considered a total pit back then, but yeah, nothing's really changed except that now there's no real barriers to entry for one to make money writing think pieces about what new generations are ruining. -

I'm firmly in the camp that suggests addition by subtraction at Knotts would be best in that case. -

For the most part you're right, but those pony coasters are amazing and I refuse to let anyone tell me otherwise. Ponies or GTFO I'm actually seriously excited for Pony Express on Sunday. LOL, well, congrats, you're the first in years. -
Lake Compounce Discussion Thread
DirkFunk replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The snapping referred to is the sound of the cables making that "CACHUNK" noise when the tub effectively stalls out during "flight" and creates slack on the wire. When gravity takes over and the slack of the wire is brought in taut very suddenly to make that, that's a "snap". So if you watch the video, you see the one tub that is clearly being manipulated in such a manner that it does stuff like nose way up at the bottom swings, then - snap as it comes back down. -
