Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not wanting to add too much to the hype or overrate it, but it is my favorite indoor roller coaster, and favorite coaster in the park aside from Diamondback. -
It's only time until they add a bungee jump to one of these. Whether it's via a catwalk/plank walk to the edge (like a pirate ) or using something like that observation lever. By the way, what about the balancing of the ship when theres a large crane full of people hanging off the side of it. I assume it could very slightly tilt the ship to one side whenever they put it to use?

Movieland Studios Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to DragonKhan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That looks absolutely sick! The one thing that seems like would top it off would be a long, straight river section where the boat could be put to full speed and speed off. But even without that, it still looks amazing! I wouldn't second guess on riding it at all! -
Awesome ghost train in the cellar anyone ?
Midgetman82 replied to GeorgeT's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll second that! I don't really like going through haunted rides (because I'm a wuss), but that looks really neat! -
I agree SFOG needs a shooting dark ride, but they may already coincided Monster Mansion as a dark ride. Therefore they could also say that they don't need a dark ride. Another indoor ride would be wonderful, actually. With that, allow certain places in the park to get AC (or air flow) as well. Last time I was there, the queue for Batman: The Ride was a sauna. It wouldn't hurt the park to implement something like a shooting ghost dark ride, wherever they could put it.

The Rise of Intamin
Midgetman82 replied to coastercrazy216's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^I remember when was shocked learning that thing was 300ft as well! I assume Intamin also had an advantage in being able to push the envelope because their designed tracks and trains were more flexible and able to take on more harsh elements and forces. A B&M train couldn't be rocketed at 120+ mph without a much more powerful motor to launch it, I assume, because the trains look heavier. I'm not so sure which other company is also able to pull off such quick transitions like what's seen on I305 at KD, without it being too rough on everybody to the point it really hurts. For the latter, I remember the barrel roll the tried to install on Maverick at Cedar Point between the rocks, but took it out because it was too much. I think one of their sparks is like what TPDave said, they've pushed the envelope in coasters. -
"Out of Fashion" Ride Styles
Midgetman82 replied to josephcissell's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There'd been times when companies have recycled old elements, and used them in different ways or bent them in a slightly newer angle. That banana roll seems like the in-between of a cobra roll and a camelback. My idea revolves around those 95 degree drops some coasters have, but instead have them going up a 95 degree vertical spike. Not sure if that'd make a huge difference, other than a little more airtime from flying over the top. -
^^ I think the layout's too small for something like that. Plus, a fresh refurbishment like that would cost way too much since they'd have to alter most of layout like they've done for the other coasters they've refurbished. I'm really glad to hear that things are still somewhat rolling along with the park, even though I'm a little sick of hearing about it now. I don't know about any of you, but I also kinda like how they're being sorta silent about what they're doing, rather than what was going on before with the promises that were being made for the park. It makes me not have as high of expectations for when the park gets closer to opening, because knowing they could be putting in a brand new roller coaster and greatly expanding the water park sounds great, until comes time to open the park and having the disappointment of only being able to fulfill less than half because they've realized before that "we needed to put more money into refurbishing everything else in the park rather than putting in new attractions." Just a thought.

Better Theming or More Track
Midgetman82 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Most of my favorite coasters I've ever ridden are without theming aside from the colors of the track. I love a great coaster with an amazing layout, but I'm more for being immersed in a setting than amazingness. So I'm for theming over layout. I'm pretty sure everybody can agree a great coaster has both aspects, which is why I have a special place in my heart for many indoor roller coasters. -
Amazing S&S towers
Midgetman82 replied to Dinnwitted's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The one in Huntsville was my first S&S tower ever. I couldn't stop re-riding after that on that day, I loved it so much! The last time I was there, summer 2010, there were so few people at the museum that I had to have at least two other people with me so they could even operate it. When there were people around, I was able to hop-on and off it over again until I got a total of 5 re-rides. Others I've ridden was Dr. Doom's Fear Fall at IoA and Liberty Launch at Holiday World. Liberty Launch, a double shot, turned out to be much better thanks to the two-times ejector airtime at the top. -
Build It And They Will . . . Forget.
Midgetman82 replied to GrapesLie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dare Devil Dive for the last time I visited Over Georgia. Sure it's one of those coasters that's hard to miss if you turn left when you enter the park, but being that it practically sits "under" a 200ft B&M hyper, people forget that it's the park's newest roller coaster. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I shall obtain a T-shirt like that (or one of Mammoth... or both, why not?) and will possibly be at Holiwood nights. Family might call me crazy for going a third time in a row, but I'd rather go local again than have to travel to Sandusky for a 1 day event in which I can only bring one person with me in the event, and the rest will complain about having to wait in regular lines all day... so yeah. (Can only choose one for financial reasons.) If I go, expect a trip report, though probably not as long as my previous ones unless there would be major changes (aside from the new slides). -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is usually what makes "my" kind of coaster. I love out of control rides, and absolutely love Flight of Fear because of its layout. (A coaster of the like include Spongebob Rock Bottom Plunge.) This could very well be the first coaster to get me more nauseated than my first few re-rides on Montu; if I ever get the chance to ride it someday. -
I couldn't be more excited to know my family is going to take a trip to London this Spring Break. Sucks to know Thorpe Park will be closed until the day after we leave. The good overwhelms the bad, obviously. But still, no first foreign coaster credits to rack-up. >.< Oh well.

I do recall bumping into a Twitter account that makes tweets linking to a Facebook page with loads of park memes. Never clicked on the links, but I have now and a few made me giggle. Link to Coaster memes Facebook Page.

I think most of our expectations have been lowered considering this would be the third attempt at negotiating with the state and state fair board at reopening it. I'll obviously support it, being that it's the closest amusement park to me, but even I'm doubtful. Luckily, I still have another wonderful amusement/water park just an hour away from KK.

TPR Harlem Shake on a Roller Coaster?!
Midgetman82 replied to tbear212's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The ones where people shot-down (as in stopped) the other people attempting to Harlem Shake, those got my attention. Especially since this was the third one I've ever seen: [youtu_be] [/youtu_be](I know, it's obviously staged. I don't even know why I'm adding on to this thread.) -
Photo TR: Vtafro Photo TR's
Midgetman82 replied to Vtafro's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice pictures. Looks like a pretty cool event, all-in-all, and the Canadian pride shows well in this TR! I hope to make it up to Canada someday to do this or head to Edmonton. Thanks for sharing.
