  1. Nice report B&M, but, WHOA, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, Scorpion had the second train sitting there?
  2. Kennywood has a really neat atmosphere to it at night worth staying till dark. Staying in Columbus is a good idea. You will get the bulk of traveling from Kennywood to KI out out of the way. I used to live in Columbus and just about any motel/hotel brand can be found and can be gotten for a good rate if you look on line. From dirt cheap to expensive. From Columbus to KI should take only an hour to an hour and a half depending on your driving. A good food option at Kennywood (other than the potato patch) is a taco stand hidden in the middle of the park. We got a cilantro chicken taco salad big enough for two for 6.99, that was really good.
  3. That is where we had the most fun in the arcade last summer. (in the very back) Some of those old pinball machines were a lot of fun
  4. I agree, the building is very under used. Since I was a kid going there in the 70's , I always wondered why that big beautiful building just sat there. (other than the ground floor arcade, which now seems to be pretty empty of patrons mostly.)
  5. I did a little searching and found that originally the contest was held in Mansfield Ohio until the winner of the contest was from Sandusky in 1963. The contest was then moved to the ballroom at Cedar Point until 1975, when it moved back to Mansfield .
  6. well golly gee, it sounds like they are makin the fence out to be somethin like this......
  7. Cool, thanks for the info. Will be keeping an eye out for this one.
  8. A fun place to visit if you're in the Cedar Point area is Put In Bay on South Bass Island. There are several ferry lines that go there. There is a really cool old 1917 merry go round on the strip. The strip is really nothing more than a crazy party town of bars after bars in old time buildings. Also of note is Perry's Monument, a 350+ foot observation tower built in 1912. Kimberley's carousel photo national park service photo construction in 1912. kinda reminds me of a coaster. ntl park svc photo
  9. ^No, you are not asking too early. Heck it is almost March. I would be interested in this too as I have some free time coming up . Having never been to Dollywood, would love the chance to do this. So yes, any info would be appreciated.
  10. ^ Agreed, while I love the boardwalk type parks, you are right, they are costly. That' s why I usually only pick the couple of unique rides to enjoy, and mostly just wander around having fun soaking up the atmosphere.
  11. I've been there the last three years in march and it wasn't that busy, which was nice as it made for a relaxing day with multiple rerides on everything. Not sure how it falls this year with spring break etc, tho.
  12. I remember at one time the Miss Ohio pageant was held in the ballroom there. I dont know when they stopped doing it there or if it still is though.
  13. . Aaah gotta love NYC, where everything is expensive/
  14. RIP Hurricane. I always rode it every time I was in the area. Great layout, good airtime and it always ran smooth.
  15. ^ Cool photos. I kinda like the post apocalyptic / Mad Max theming that is Conneaut. You have to admit that it's the most unique theming of any park. not my photo. found on the web 1997 with working headlights.( not my photo)
  16. in my 4 days at the Point last summer, I was asked only one time to take off my glasses and that was on TTD at night. Sometimes I removed my glasses, but many times I just forget to as I am so used to them being on. I did however get asked by a rider in front of me once if I was afraid of loosing my glasses. Usually i just put them in a secure pocket.
  17. Oh why oh why does this thread always seem to be about boats, boats and more boats!
  18. By the way, those icy pictures of Valravn are just boatiful.
  19. Anyone from the Cleveland area remember the Giant Slide that was at the Mayfield Rd exit off 271 through the 70's until ? It was essentially the same as Cedar points slide. Very odd setting as it was in a parking lot and that was it. A drug store sits there now. I've tried to find photos of it but no luck. I did however find a photo of a ticket for it. As a side note, Mayfield road is a direct route to Conneaut Lake Park from Cleveland.
  20. We went last year in late august for 4 days and stayed at the Breakers. It was the last week of full operations and full hours. Schools are in session and the park stays open until at least 10 pm. Our first day was a tuesday and the park much to our surprise was totally dead. No lines at all. In fact, the whole week was very uncrowded, so there was no need for fast pass whatsoever. (even though we budgeted for it) Many times later in the day the trains on Gemini, Magnum ,etc only had 2 to 4 other people on each train. With the money we saved on not having to buy the fast pass, we got to have a bonus day at Waldemeer, and an extra night in a nice hotel which we had not planned on. Just dont go on saturdays, it'll be awful.
  21. For your trip. One part of the park that doesn't get a lot of love on the sites is Wallaby Way. It is tucked off in a corner, but it's really neat if you like kangaroos and wallabi. For a few bucks you can buy a salad for the little guys , that if you do early, gobble it up. It's really cool when they let the lil guys on the pathway. So cuddly. Actually, the salad looks really good, enough so that I want an extra order for me with a lil dressing on top. After encountering them you just might want to take one of those super cute fuzzy Wallabis home with you. The trajn can be neat later on in towards evening when the animals are active. We left from the Niarobi station and were told it would be 30 to 40 minutes to get to the next station due to the animals running around. Really cool as the train stopped because the white rhino was charging all over the place. I had no idea the could move so fast. Other than that, remember the Skyway is your friend, and ALL the coasters are good.
  22. Uh oh, things are going down fast at the point but all is not lost
