Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread
Zack44 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like that Kentucky Kingdom gets to have a second chance in a similar way to Geauga Lake sort of way, but not completely because I imagine that they will keep what remaining rides they have for a while. Best case scenario: Kentucky Kingdom still remains successful as an independant park (a la Darien lake, Great Escape). Worst Case Scenario: We have another "Hard Rock/Freestyle Music Park" situation. Either way, I will be interested to see what the future holds in store for this park. On another note, which park do you think that Road Runner Express will go to? I'm hoping it goes to SFA since they haven't gotten any new coaster in almost a decade and they never got to properly replace Two-Face? Do you think they'll have it at another park by next year as the parks' big 2011 attraction? Will it have a new theme and name? Any suggestions? -

I'm going to laugh so hard if it turns out that Chang won't be replacing Scream Machine next year and that "major attraction" just turns out to be that 5D thing that hasn't been mentioned in a while, or just something completely different and unexpected. But the chances for Chang net year are very high in comparison to the other Six Flags parks, so.......yeah. If Chang comes to Great Adventure next year however, I just hope they give it a completely different name, theme, and color scheme than the old Chang. I was thinking a good color combination would be either laser-green track with black supports or white track with dark/burnt orange supports. As long as they don't use either blue, yellow, or red, which pretty much dominate most of the coasters' paint schemes in the park already. Anyone else have any suggestions for color schemes?

I'm very saddened by this news, but also relieved at the same time. On one hand, it is very sad that the park is losing one of its oldest and more historic rides (once being the tallest & fastest looping coaster ever at its opening in 1989), especially for myself since this was the first major coaster I ever rode at the park and I've ridden it at least once during every subsequent time I visited. On the other hand however, the park is making a celebration out of the closing, which is pleasing since Chiller was unexpectedly removed a few years ago. It also makes us more anxious for whatever is coming to the park next year, be it Chang, the 5D thing, or something completely different. Rest in Pieces, GASM.

Pictures: Sing it with me now: AMERICA! F$#@ YEAH! This one was taken by my sister Don't worry, with the power of 3D, these deer can be right in front of you! Don't ya just love group shots? Did I mention that my sister's friend has never seen most of these animals before? "Just roll up that window and I won't have to use these horns on that car of yours!" *cue shriek #37 from my sister's friend* Now THESE two have the right idea! Another one from my sister... I hate it when animals moon us. *cue "awwwwww..." #183 from everyone else in the car* Gee guys, thanks for the extra reminder... "Hmm, yeah, what about baboons?" This one taken ONE second after one of the babies tried to climb the fence. I don't know what's more sad: the fact it was closed or the sign's *cough* makeover. The Big Wheel was also closed in the middle of the day for no good reason. I can't believe I've never taken this shot before. I hope this isn't the last time I see the Boardwalk like this... Eh, why not? I just had to see it to believe it. Our two woodies. At least this one's not going anywhere any time soon. 100 points to the one who sees the 2nd train in this shot first! For once, this coaster is completely empty. No construction, as you can see. Thanks for reading! -
Report: I've been wanting to post this for a few days so I'll try to be brief. I went to the Safari and the Park this time with my mother, sister, and her friend who had never visited the park before. Saying that my sister's friend was excited by all of the animals in the Safari would be an understatement. Anyway, we went to the Safari at about 9:30 and entered the park at around 10:45. I headed to Nitro first, but it was closed for the first few hours of the day, so I decided to go on Batman, The Dark Knight, and Skull Mountain, all of which were either walk-ons or had less than 5-minute waits. I took the Skyway to the western side of the park and rode Runaway Train (walk-on), Kingda Ka (three trains including the Karate Kid one), El Toro (two trains including the Stride gum one). Superman was still closed by the way, although there was no construction on the supposedly-sunken-in pretzel loop present on that day. We all had lunch outside of the park at Burger King at around 12:30 and by the time we got pack, the crowds were starting to increase. Nitro had opened up when we got back and the queue was already 90% full, so I decided to ride Fling for the heck of it. Then I headed over to the Boardwalk and was kind of surprised of how empty(er) the section seemed with Superman closed. Houdini, erUPtion, and Twister each had one-cycle-waits, and then I rode GASM (which operated all day and was COMPLETLEY FINE by the way ). I later went back and rode Nitro after the line died down to a 15-minute wait. Then I met up the rest of my party and we (except for my sister) rode El Toro (even snatching a re-ride on a completely free row in the back), Rolling Thunder (both sides were open, but the right side had both trains while the left side only had one train running ) and Bizarro. We all left around 6:30 because we all had tests/work the next day, plus I was surprisingly more tired than I have ever been before because of the heat. Overall, the day was alright. The crowds got hectic and summer-like during the middle of the day, but fine during the rest of the day. I'd say 5 out of 6 Flags. Ride List: El Toro 3x Nitro 1x Kingda Ka 1x Bizarro 1x Batman: The Ride 1x The Dark Knight 1x GASM ( ) 1x RT (Right) 1x RMT: 1x Skull Mt. 1x Fling 1x Houdini 1x Twister 1x erUPtion 1x Skyway 1x

I'm kinda lost, so riddle me this: Didn't Mark Kane himself say a while ago that Chang is NOT coming to the park? Since when has the plans for Chang in Great America in 2011 been changed? What about the ongoing conflict between Six Flags and the Kentucky State Fair Board about the fate of the rides since Kentucky Kingdom closed (even though I know that Chang was dismantled prior to that)? Why do people say that GASM will close within 2 weeks if if was running just fine for the past 2 days? I went to the park on the 21st (which reminds me, I'll have to make my PTR) and GASM was operating smoothly all day, and even had a line! Plus, even if this is true, what the heck was the point of getting us excited with the 5D project and why did they close down the 4D theater in the first place if it will not likely be "renovated" for next year? Right now I feel like a grade-A newbie all over again.

I'm looking forward to the big 2011/5D project, but it'll be a shame that the Right Stuff Theater will most likely go as a result. It also makes me wonder if the Go-Karts will also be removed since the 5D building will likely be much bigger than the 4D Theater we have now. But if this is confirmed, the park will have to do something about the capacity. From what I've seen online, like concept videos of the 5D rides, it looks like it will only hold a small amount of people for a ride/show that goes on for at least four minutes. And lets all pray that the Theater won't be covered in ads for Stride and Snickers. Anyway, I'm possibly going to the park on Tuesday and I need some advice. Should I go to HH, the regular park, or HH then the park? What do you think the crowds will be like? Etcetera, etcetera...

I've been a huge fan of the Lakers since the "glory" days of ten years ago (I even have a personalized gold jersey with my last name on it), but I didn't pay very much attention to the last time the Lakers and Celtics duked it out in June. I'm predicting it'll be the Lakers in seven, both teams have really capable, even underrated players, and whatever's left of this series is sure to be a spectacle for any b-ball fan.

Six Flags Great America 5/29/10

^That train looks a lot better than what Great Adventure did with that one El Toro train...(shudders) Anyway, I love how the park decided to incorporate the coasters history into the "theming" and I love all of the new signs along the queue. This looks like it will be very popular with children, families, and anyone who ever rode the Little Dipper before this summer and hopefully for the next few years. If you ask me, bidding on this coaster in the first place was probably one of the best decisions the park has made in the past few years. -

I would try to add a search category by the coasters' color/paint scheme, even though it would be hell to put it together. -
