Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
PriestofSyrinx replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Why does this seem like it was a short term planning period? I mean 4 identical rides at their parks? I really think this was instituted at the end of last season! So what now happens to Ocean Motion? The Jet Ski rental booth? The Resort Entrance? All of these questions... -

Uhh... 400? 20^2=400 So its going to be the second tallest thing in the park... Over 100ft taller than Power Tower I dont think that the three years answer applies here... It seems to me that this ride is total filler, something hastily ordered to cover up the StR mess ... or maybe an omen of whats to come, i.e. Skyhawk before Maverick? -

Stratasoar Strata is the term coined by CP marketing department for dragster... along with Giga for Mellinium Force... and Hyper for Magnum... So 400ft tall does sound plausible! -
The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Launched/Diving coaster does sound like a feaseable option now that the CEO and COO could tap into the Chicago market more... Once againg, feaseable! Hmmm... it seems like they have stripped the ride when ever CF took hold... I would not be surprised if some small park in Asia would pick it up! 3.) Son Of Beast- is not going anywhere next year but will not re-open. Word is the timber will be 'recycled' somewhat and the layout will be re-profiled but not until at least 2013/2014. (side note-2014 would be 35th annv. of "The Beast"). This im taking with huge grains of salt. The timber on this ride is already shocked from years of torment! And the GP will still stay away from this rough rider! THats some good detailed info, for rumors! Can you find more? -

The Beast is on there because it is legendary. It had became so over hyped, so over talked about, that people like Paul, and other old ACE members hold it in High regard! Same with X! I remember the super hype X had when it debuted! And even when it went SBNO, there were still posters and shows about it! Heck im surprised Revolution wasn't on there! Due to its hype/movie tie in... The Media only cares about a few roller coasters: Cyclone, The Beast, X/X2, MForce, Kingda Ka, and formerly Son Of Beast You always should expect seeing Beast and X on any media top ten list, even if it was a letdown

I actually like the fact that part of the proposed Chang positioning is in the front entrance. I mean that it will become a star attraction, and people will get to see it up close and see it run over them as they enter the park, pumpimng up the peeps even more for the day. For example: Goliath at SFOG. The star attraction goes over the entrance plaza, pumping guests for the day and already making them happy before they enter...

^^ Anywhoo, i really dont think CP would want to install an unreliable Sky Swatt. Its just something that CP really doesn't need. I believe that Demon Drop was removed due to "future expansion" i.e. New coaster in case Six Flags wants to start the coaster wars again.. But then again, CP did install Sky Swatt's brother, Skyhawk. And it pulls a nice crowd... -
May he rest in peace. Long live Dio's impact on metal and hard rock!

Underrated Coasters?
PriestofSyrinx replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Vortex- Kings Island: My second favorite Arrow looper (Behind Nessie ofcourse). Very Smooth and great hang time! Tennessee Tornado- Dollywood: This ride is now overshadowed by its Thunderhead and Mystery Mine bretheren, but a smooth arrow with a short, yet very fun layout Wicked Twister: This ride I rarely see love for, but its just nothing but pure fun and excitement, and some of the most airtime filled rides out there Disaster Transport- Whats wrong with having an indoor ride with cheesy special effects? Almost always a big queue, I dont see why this ride gets such a bad rap! And its great family ride, a good transition before the bigger coasters! -

A delay mid season on a hot july/august day is much more cause for alarm, Plus the park doesnt get really busy till after Coastermania... so a little delay should be acceptable. If its open during Coastermania the yay! I get a new water ride! If it isnt, im not gonna piss and moan about it. And neither should the community that Cedar Point opens their park to each year. Also, Intamin is becoming a whipping boy! Hopefully they will have a smooth season after these incidents (I pray for I305) I also may be a bit of a CP fanoy, but thats a moot point -
RCT: The Movie! Starring: Dick Kinzel as the man who doesnt name rides and has trash cans on everysingle path tile! Mark Shapiro as the man who half-a$$es themeing and makes up with it with FIRE!!! Werner Stengle as the wacky designer! Will Koch as the medium park manager that does a great job! Stan Checketts as the "Too intense for Me" and Andy Dick!

There I believe were Shapiro's greatest Ideas for the chain in whole. I too liked Shapiro, He cut the fat and got down to revenue increases. Hopefully his good ideas will stay, while some new fresh ideas will come in. (hopefully no Son Of Beast gets built at SFMM/SFGadv) Im still sooo happy that Snyder is gone though!!!

Corporate Six Flags goes up as ... Six Flags over Georgia goes under! (water, again) I am happy that Six Flags now has less restrictive capital to use, maybe now we can see some of these re-themeing ideas hit all of the parks! Oh and ... NO MORE DAN SNYDER!!!!!!!!!! That alone is worth a toast to Shapiro and the bondholders!

True class right there. Everyone needs to hear stories like this from time to time to keep their spirits up! Only an HFE park would do this. That is why I hope they never go public stock option. We gotta keep some good in America! -

Poll: GCI vs B&M Invert
PriestofSyrinx replied to chadster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Now if you wanna spend that much on one coaster then I suggest going for gold with GCI or The Gravity Group. What I mean is $15 million can get you a World Record wooden coaster! It cost 8.5 to build The Voyage, and the new Timberliners wont eat up the track like a PTC will. So 10 to 15 million could get you a record breaking coaster, whether it be speed, height or length! and the GP will eat it up, just because it will hold a record!
