  1. I was wondering why this thread looked so active yesterday. Oh, the ride was officially announced. Duh. Definitely sounds intriguing, and I'm always glad for more inventiveness in the realm of hypercoasters. I'm now happy I was "able" to wait to visit the park, even though I would've jumped at the chance to go even in past years. I'm a little weirded out by "Cannibal" really being the name, but at least it's getting people talking, and the purported explanation for it is cute.
  2. "Turn the Heat Up" - Shemekia Copeland Love her. She really gets it.
  3. I haven't ridden Mantis since 2011 (and I was last there last year). No loss. And yes, I did enjoy it, but it didn't really, well, stand out among the other stand-ups out there.
  4. Just bought two tickets for something...or at least, that was my intent. I failed to comprehend that the tickets were being sold in sets of two, so now I have two extras that no one will want. Oh well...
  5. I don't care who you are, you can't use the word "spendthrift" incorrectly and expect me not to notice.
  6. "Resolution" - Great White Was not expecting to like this album ("Elation") at all. I was wrong; great vintage-sounding bluesy hard rock.
  7. "Rambling On My Mind" - Rory Block She interprets Robert Johnson in the most amazingly haunting way. Spot on, yet fresh and different.
  8. ^^I really like your wood list. I also really need some night/rain/marathon rides on Ravine Flyer II.
  9. Tentative update. I can never get over feelings of awkwardness and uncertainty about various particulars of my rankings, but it's all good. If I do switch things up, I'll make sure everything's good and settled for my Hawker ballot. Wood 01. Boulder Dash 02. Coaster (Playland) 03. Voyage 04. Phoenix 05. Giant Dipper (SCBB) 06. American Thunder 07. El Toro [changed] 08. Timber Terror 09. Outlaw Run 10. Tremors I rode Boulder Dash, Voyage, Phoenix, and El Toro this year. Voyage and Phoenix in particular were impressive enough that I wanted to raise their rankings, but considering their competition, there isn't much room for them to move. Being a bit lower, El Toro had room to finally move up. I used to place it slightly yet decidedly behind Outlaw Run, but there's a level of simplicity and pure fun that really came through during my El Toro marathon this year that can't be matched by anything other than a few of the best more traditional woodies. Steel 01. X2 02. Maverick 03. Iron Rattler 04. New Texas Giant 05. Phantom's Revenge 06. Top Thrill Dragster 07. Lightning Run [new] 08. Aftershock 09. Medusa (SFDK) 10. Tatsu I rode NTAG and Lightning Run this year, and several others in recent memory. While NTAG once again proved itself to me after its involuntary absence from my life, it's still in neck-and-neck competition with iRat. As with several other rides that have ended up favorites, I had one or two underwhelming early laps on Lightning Run that left me baffled. Soon it came through with the ejector airtime and other forces that make it easily better than most other rides.
  10. Disney: Disneyland > DCA Universal: For this thread, I'd say USF marginally > IOA. Generally, I rank them collectively as a complete package, unlike Disneyland and DCA which feel more "separate" and distinctly different from each other to me. Six Flags: I am honestly not interested in even trying to rank them. (I have visited all except Six Flags Mexico.) Cedar Fair: Cedar Point. It's easily in or just out of my top 5 parks, and I love the resort as a whole, haters be damned. As with SF, I don't care to rank the others. (I've visited all except Canada's Wonderland and Michigan's Adventure.) Herschend: Flip a coin. I officially like SDC and Dollywood about the same. SeaWorld: Busch Gardens Tampa Parques Reunidos: Kennywood is the "best"; IdleWild is the most pleasant. Independent: Knoebels Wow, I just made this way less fun than I think it was supposed to be, haha.
  11. With that in mind, I suddenly don't have a problem with either name.
  12. So basically, Laff Trakk without the roller coaster? Sounds like a decent addition.
  13. That awkward moment when I realize I've seen that band live (they're called AJR).
  14. I caught a brass ring today!!!
  15. Outlaw Run, I writed on her. She was very moist, and it was hard to find a spot on the wood for my pen's output to go up as intended. So yes, I did a touch-up in Paint to highlight the text of my heartfelt message. The raincoat pictured was proffered to me by SDC maintenance staff! pic4posterity, as I plan for this post to soon be rendered nonsensical in relation to my avatar.
  16. Thunder Run and Timber Wolf. Mean Streak is, unsurprisingly, low on my list, and I can't stand Georgia Cyclone. It still astounds me how something so similar to the irredeemable Hurlers can be such a competent ride. While not blown away by Thunder Run, I was decidedly impressed, mainly by a few strong pops of air. I agree with the consensus that it's best in the first or second row (shame it can only run one train), as it was both rougher and more underwhelming in other seats, especially the back. It's settled tentatively in the top third of my woodie rankings.
  17. Lovely addition! Love it when parks go all-out with theming, and of course SDC doesn't (and won't) disappoint.
  18. Seems like an awkward, if mildly clever, theme to go with that name. I'd think the more expected circus theming would be more fun, but what do I know?
  19. Corona Cobra Coaster @ Fantasy Forest at the Flushing Meadows Carousel.
  20. EL TORO!!! Fifteen of the most amazing rides I've ever had on it.
  21. Skyrush. Back wing once for old time's sake.
