  1. I wouldn't sell it if it had been in my family for over 100 years! PS: Oh and thank you for telling me that I am childish for having an opinion- I needed a good laugh during Finals week.
  2. Is it just me? It seems as though the current generation of the family are out to make a quick buck instead of having to put years of hard work into making money like their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. before them had done. Its like these people who try to get their parents commited so they can get their hands on their inhertance earlier! I think that this sale is the current family slapping all of their ancestors squarely in the face.
  3. ^^The Netherlands was (were?) at 1 park to 820,000 residents. Denmark wasn't one of the 12 countries I sampled. I am slowly working on a few countries based on Robb's comment but the figures are not as easy to get on ask.com as population was.
  4. I didn't rank them in order- but Japan was 1 park:just under 1.1 million residents.
  5. Which has never sounded right considering they have a ride called Demon Drop and another one named after a gun.
  6. Attempting to pull a ratio for a paper I am writing for school I used rcdb.com to count the number of parks in 12 different countries in addition to five different US States. I then got the total populations of all of these locations on ask.com. I then divided the total population by the number of parks and found out something interesting... The UK has the largest number of amusement parks per capita in the world (at least out of the 12 countries I sampled). There is one amusement park there for every 727,840 residents, versus the US where there is only 1 amusement park for every 2 million residents. It should come as no surprise that Florida has the highest per capita number out of the states I sampled= 1 park for every 869,850 residents. Every European Country I sampled beat the US for the highest numbers per capita. I got the information I needed for my paper and thought some of you on here might be interested in the results.
  7. I am asking this as a serious question: What do you think the odds are that I could convince my college to give me a few credits for one of the overseas trips? It would be exposure to a new culture and customs and such and we would see some historic sites- just curious if anyone could bend this more for me to even consider submitting for consideration. Thanks!
  8. ^Try restarting the former Mr Toad at MK- you had to push the station location buttons in the right order to get it to restart. It was playing that game Simon with the flashing lights and beeps.
  9. Just curious, just a suggestion- have you guys ever thought about doing smaller 2-3 day group trips in a small geographical area so that us poor college students can join in sometime too?
  10. Forgive me for bumping an old topic in but I just wanted to let anyone/everyone know that they have updated the BTM simulator so the crowds move in much quicker now and it keeps track of your numbers and a few other improvements.
  11. CF started removing A LOT as soon as they took over ownership. They axed like 5 or 6 shows and all of the animal exhibits went bye bye. They simply have not put back into the park what they took out and the fact that they seem puzzled why no one wants to go there is baffling!
  12. I called this on another post a few weeks back that CF would gut the park and sell the rest and people told me I was crazy. It was the same when the former owner of Great Escape ran Fantasy Island for one summer to get his hands on the Comet- no difference. I think that this was in their plans for some time to be honest. The thing here is this- not every park needs to be a headlining flagship park- many parks that I like I like for the fact that they are small unknown parks (like Fantasy Island under Martin's ownership). It was a stupid move by Premier/Six Flags to combine two parks. When it was GL and Sea World people would spend two days and do a day each- when it became one park people just visted the huge park once and people that don't like theme parks but like animal parks just stopped going. It seems that CF is interested in selling off this "prime lakefront property," on the now former rides side and I have seen several sources that claim they are seeking condo developments there (just what the Cleveland metro area needs- not) and I am wondering who is going to thump down $250 K for a view of a gaudy water park across a lake that looks dirtier than Lake Erie? And yes I will say again that if they destroy the Big Dipper I will never again patronize a CF park- its not just because I like it but also CF has no respect for history. CP is well over 100 years old and they have nothing to show for it- their oldest two rides were brought in from elsewhere- and one of the grandest old buildings is not even open to the general public (the ballroom). I seem to be one of the only people who will miss the Big Dipper- I don't know maybe I just caught it on a off-good day or maybe its my size because I used to like CP's BS (Blue Streak) but now I don't. My 1st ever wooden coaster was destroyed back in 1989- Crystal Beach's Giant- often referred to as the Yellow Coaster- if it were operating today it would be the oldest "side-friction" coaster with a train (as opposed to Leap the Dips' individual cars). Maybe I should start playing the lotto and then maybe I can buy it and give it to KG or something. I will close with saying that I have no doubt in my mind that I will never again get to ride the Big Dipper as such I have already erased any though of ever riding Maverick or MF (it was closed the past 3 times I was at CP). 13. I have my opinion and you have yours. I'm sure there are coasters that I like and you hate, but I don't go around saying things like that and wishing pain upon people. You're messed up man. Thank You! Um.. He's saying you're screwed up dude. Try re-reading his post again. I know that- duh!

  15. ^^Anyone who would blatantly insult a classic coaster deserves all of the pain they receive. I don't know why I like this coaster- when I rode it in 2005 it was just awsome- a top 10 woodie for me. While when I rode Blue Streak (CP) it fell out of my list- which together with Mean Streak gave me the idea for my handle- i.e. what is left in your pants after riding either of the --Streak coasters (or for those rich people who can afford them- what is left in your underwear).
  16. Mark my words- if Cedar Fair does not find a home for Big Dipper and instead just destroys it- I will NEVER go to another CF park again!
  17. Thus totally eliminating my ever needing to buy a CF season pass again. It was worth it having a park right next to me and another one not too far away- but hey if this is the game they want to play- Kennywood is not THAT much farther from me than CP is.
  18. Boston is also a division of Bausch & Lamm- the eyewear company
  19. The interesting thing about these polls is that they do not require you to have visited these parks in the past year so many of the voters I am sure just pick their favorites from years past as in "Well I remember SRoS being fun when I rode it 8 years ago so I'll rate it high," even though the ride may have changed since then- I mean for all they know the ride may now end with a splash into a septic tank!
  20. ^Well that is the reason that corkscrew (loop) is called a corkscrew.
  21. Ever since CF announced Maverick, I've had the following image in my head. Anyone else know of other same name pairs that are funny? Once just a cheap brand of cigarettes, now it has its own ride!
  22. And get some better trains for it while you're at it. The current ones suck for taller riders. Really? I am 6'2" and I love that coaster- its still in my Top 5. As for the comment about why would CF aim to sell the park after adding WWK- Water Parks are not that expensive to throw together- if they just removed everything and tried to sell it they would get nothing but by adding 50 cents worth of carbon copy water slides they could sell the area for more.
  23. My prediction still remains the same- That CF bought this park for the same reason that the former owner of Great Escape bought Fantasy Island- to remove all of the rides that they liked and then sell the park. In retrospect, Martin's buying of Fantasy Island had great results, however I don't think that the same will hold true in regards to GL. At this point if they remove Dominator my only concern is "find Big Dipper a good home" and torch the rest!
  24. That really stinks- the countdown went down to 0 and nothing happened! I had to hit refresh a bunch of times and then exit the site and go back in to find out what was already posted here- oh well the start of school today is reward enough!
