The detachable ones move through a mechinism that releases or rejoins the clamp on the wire. Occasionally a lift of this type needs to travel backwards when I clamp hits the point where the long wire is joined to itself. More modern lifts like Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort's Gondola move on a conveyance system after detaching and move slowly through unload/load, while the older styles found at most theme parks the buckets have to moved manually around the corner. Its kind of like the bucket has a hand on top of it and when it moves through the mechanism it either grabs hold of the wire or lets go of it. The more modern ones speed the bucket up so when it attaches to the wire its a smooth transition, while the older ones start with a jolt.

Cedar Fair's "Maverick"
BrownStreak replied to MJHammer1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was at a cocktail party last weekend and I meet a guy who works for Cedar Point Planning & Design and I jokingly said "So what's Maverick," without missing a beat or cracking a smile, he said "Its a name Cedar fair has trademarked for an attraction at one of our parks," and then remarked how shocked he was that people had so little to do that they discussed things like that online! Here I thought I was being impresive showing him that I knew somthing and he was such a jerk! -
I am a good uncle I think, but I never know what to get my neice for her birthday or Christmas- my nephew is easy- he likes trains. I have thought about adopting any animal at the zoo for her birthday- you get a stuffed toy version of the animal with the adoption- would she be old enough to appreciate this gift beyond just the stuffed toy?

I have been to a few parks early in their season only to find half the rides not open yet and I was wondering if this was at all the case at Dollywood? I am probably the world's worst "topic searcher" so if this has been discussed, forgive me. I don't care that the water park will not be open, but want to do all of the coasters, the Slidewinder and their high tech log flume thingy. I've noticed the park goes immediately into almost daily operation except Tuesdays (poor Tuesdays) and I have Sunday/Monday off each week. Any tips/info?

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
BrownStreak replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hmmm, well the last park I was at was Kings Island during Pride Night and the last coaster of the night was Top Gun. Suspended/Swinging coasters are the only arrow coasters that I Love! -
Video Clip: INSANE SPINNING DELLS RIDE!!!!
BrownStreak replied to Nrthwnd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Back during her original burst of fame, there were some of those rides themed to Strawberry Shortcake. Which brings me to this question: Any one else but me notice that Plum Puddin used to be a boy and now is a girl?! -
Which is worse?

I have been on at least one boomerang that was not an exact clone- but every SLC I have ever been on has been so rough it was no fun. Darien Lake's Boomerang seems taller than most and has different cars on it. -
Its just odd that I've never heard of the rides! I thought that most carnivals just traveled with the industry name for a ride

I will be in Cleveland at the end of April for an event (I am actually moving there this August for school) and I found out that the IX Indoor Amusement Park will be running then. According to their website they will have a top spin, Freak Out (what is that?), a Skater (what is that?), Down Draft (what is that), and a Spinning Coaster (anyone know what kind?). Has anyone ever been to this event? Is it worth it? I went to an indoor carnival at Sky Dome two years ago and besides being an absolute zoo it was also quite lame- and there were no functioning ATMs inside!

Your favorite coaster tunnel
BrownStreak replied to chavslayer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Seabreeze is absolutely tiny, but everytime I have visited, I have had a blast! And seriously, if you have never ridden Jack Rabbit there the last drop is an incredible surprise in the dark, which in and of itself is made even cooler (more cool?) by how old it is. Add that to their adorable wood-support wild mouse sorta thing, their ancient log flume complete with rapids(!), and sveral good thrill rides, this park is my favorite in New York! Oh and their spinning coaster gives incredible views of Lake Ontario. -
Re-Imagineering
BrownStreak replied to Rockman89's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
"Walt would..." Walt would be 105 years old now! Yeah he died "early" in life, but I don't really know if I'd want to visit a park designed by someone who is 105 years old! In some ways he had it easy- its easy to be innovative when there isn't much else out there. -
Your favorite coaster tunnel
BrownStreak replied to chavslayer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As much as I think Magnum is over-rated, I do like one of its tunnels! Near the end you are going over a few bunny hills that are about the same size and your body gets into this rythym, kinda. Then you go into the tunnel and go down and keep going down when the "rythym" is telling you that you should be going up- does that make sense? Also the Tunnel at the end of Seabreeze's Jack Rabit which holds the hidden drop! This could also be viewed as the BEST AIRTIME WHILE RE-ENTERING THE STATION! -
My former roommate and I went to Geauga Lake on a Sunday in late August last year and the place was empty! We were able to walk right onto to many of the rides. Early in the day we rode two coasters by ourselves. I think we waited maybe 10 minutes for Dominator with the only wait being 30 minutes for their Vekoma SLC (My roomie had never been on one) because they were only running one train. We did several of the coasters twice (Big Dipper- 3 times) and still ended up leaving around 4 or 5pm.

RCT2 Shut Down!
BrownStreak replied to BrownStreak's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I uninstalled and re-installed the game and it still happens I have not downloaded anything as of yet into this game. And also it is no longer just happening on the 6 Flags Scenerios- its happening all the time. I have not even installed the 2 expansions yet, I wonder if that would help. I don't remember having this issue when I originally played the game. -
I was playin' the game, "The Movies" and a set of credits pop up and go on forever. I was noticing that some of the NPC characters from the game were named after some of the designers so I was actually reading the credits and what name should I happen across? Rob Alvey! Is this our dear Theme Park World Tour Guide's real life job?

RCT4?
BrownStreak replied to coasterdude5's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I think the main problem with RCT3 is that everything is too big! The tracks being so large makes them look less realistic instead of more realistic and the peeps- don't get me started on them- they look stupid! The little duded (I always will call them that) from RCT2 were actually more realistic looking than those freaks in RCT3! If they just took RCT2 and improved it a bit and made a few of the rides the actual right size (the top spin with only 8 seats for example) and brought in some of the cool rides from RCT3 it would be great- I don't need full 3D "realism" to have fun- the 3D effects in RCT3 make it look cheesy anyways- oh get rid of those idiotic VIPains! I would not design a real life park just to suit a celebrity's tatse- why would I want to do it in a game! If they were to return to their RCT2 and improve that I would at least like to be able to ride my rides, but I would also like a return of the RCT2 Ride Window to watch each train manouver the course. And one last thing- just because there are no looping water coasters in "real life" why can't we build them in the game?! More elements on more coasters- come seriously wouldn't it be cool to come out of a loop into a water splash!~ -
Okay so looking at all of your cool RCT2 parks has made me want to dust of the disk and install it on my computer. Unfortunately the PC that I used to play the game on is no more (overrun by a virus no one could detect or remove) so I am starting from scratch. I am playing the game on the same PC that has RCT3 on it- over than moving slow in parks with some scenery I have not had any problems with RCT3. However RCT2 keeps giving me an "unknow error" and closing itself in the middle of game pkay- oddly it seems to happen the most in the 6 Flags Scenarios! Anyone know how to fix this? And by the way, I hope to recreate some of my awsome parks from memory and post pics here in the near future!

Odd that the Tokyo Castle is Blue- I don't know if anyone has ever pointed this out. I was told that the florida castle was blue to cool people down and the pink-ish castle in Paris was designed to make people feel warm in the winter- seems that the Tokyo Castle would be a warmer colour seeing its open when its snowing...
