Let's Go Back In Time - Pacfic Ocean Park
BrownStreak replied to alexinla's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This park totally looks like the type of place that Mystery Machine would happen upon in an early 80's episode of Scooby Doo. An old seaside park that was done in because some guy in a shark suit scared everyone away. -
About this same exact time last year I had to do a small Excel Spreadsheet Project for a class. The assignment was fairly easy and open-ended and simply had to deal with the stock market. I chose to list five theme park related companies: BUD (Anheuser), DIS (Disney), MGM (MGM-Mirage), FUN (Cedar-Fair), and SIX (Six Flags). Even then FUN and DIS were listing at $23.45 and $34.99 a share and SIX was down at $3.34. It is not surprising to me that in a crisis a stock that was already in trouble a year ago would have HUGE problems. FUN has dropped 32% as has DIS. Oddly the biggest drop was MGM falling from $97 to $11!

The Great State Race-AND THE WINNER IS....

Ah...the OTHER CSU is representin'...I changed the computer wallpaper in the Student Government Office from out CSU logo (Ohio) to yours' (Colorado). I'm in Ohio so I'm sure you've already got that covered unless you need a postcard from the "city of rock n roll that doesn't have a decent radio station" -
I totally agree with you. That was the one major advantage to heading all the way out to Vegas to gamble was the rides, over-the-top themes, and the lights. Take all that out and I might as well just drive 4 hours to Windsor or Niagara Falls instead of flying across the country. Speed was my favorite ride in the Southwest and I can't see myself going back to Vegas more and more hearing stuff like this. I guess if you want thrills and gambling together we still have Atlantic City?

I don't fully understand from reading their website: Are all of the rides going to open as well? I would definitely make the trip to ride Blue Streak again and have a first on their gravity powered dark ride (Dante's Inferno I think its called), though I am not much for Halloween houses- too much gore and not enough true scare.

The Official "TPR Europe Trip 2008" Thread!

Two questions about the coaster in this picture. Are those farm animals grazing in the turnaround? And whats with the six identical cars parked on the side of a dirt road to the left (there are more of them visible in another pic of the ride)? -

I had the same problem with both NoCal Parks when I was there a few years back- on many of the rides the ops were VERY slow and often engaged in conversations amongst themselves instead of hustling to get the queues moving. -
Cedar Point TR
BrownStreak replied to BrownStreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That was our exact reason for going on a Tuesday- we thought it would be slow- we had originally planned on going that Friday. As for the hours being extended...keep in mind that the employees that are left are mostly working Open-Close and many don't have a day off any more and they just came off of a solid 2.5 months of 10pm closings and were looking forward to the 8pm closings. But coming from the otherside of things as a guest- yes it was nice to extend the hours- they couldn't stay opened until 10 the day we were there because of Big Bash. -
When we arrived at the park at 10:30am on Tuesday August 19th I was immediately startled that there were supervisors working the admissions gates (I worked at Cedar Point from May - July so I know who's who) and thought "this is going to be an interesting day." The park was PACKED which I think has a lot to do with the fact that gas prices had gone down about 50 cents in the area. Raptor had over an hour wait until we rode it as the last ride of the night around 8:45pm-> they extended the park hours by one hour- though we were told the day before they extended them 2 hours- which from talking to my friends who still worked there was causing several employees to quit. Iron Dragon never had all three trains on the entire day and I felt so dirty actually waiting almost a half hour to ride it. Same goes with Disaster Transport which wasn't using most of the queue so they could fix it up for Halloweekends. We never did get to ride Maverick- full queue all day long- though I did get one ride in on my favorite- Mil-Force with just an hour wait despite 1.5 hours being the posted wait time. Only 3 of the shows were still playing and my favorite had already closed for the year. We rode Gemini in the first car and me and my two friends got mild whiplash in the end-helix and oh...Gemini was only running one side all day long. I did notice that every kiddie ride was opened and mostly dead so I was thinking "why don't they pair those up and put some ops on the coasters and such." Paddlewheel was closed for Halloweekends set-up- anyone know why? (I know you do). I also found it interesting that even Mine Ride had a 20-minute wait and Gemini had over 30 minutes and yet Mean Streak was walk-on and was sending empty trains-> Why don't they take a hint and torch it! Off of my complaints for a momment and onto the big news= Due to certain connections I made, I was able to ride Ripcord and Skyscraper. While Ripcord was fun, I still liked the one at SFGAm better because you actually flew over stuff, but it was still fun. Skyscraper is OMFG! It was one of the best rides I have ever experienced! Though I have a feeling that multiple rides would detract from this. We were going to ride Thunder Canyon and Snake River but none of us had change for the lockers, none of us wanted $20 in loose change in our pockets, and none of the area stands would make change. All in all we did have a great time though there were a lot of rides we missed due to how busy they were vs how understaffed they were. I wonder if someday CP will figure out how to treat their employees mid-season so they last to the end. I was asked if I wanted to come back! Rumor Seed= All throughout the summer when I rode the train from the back to the front I would notice orange markings on trees off to one side near the "junkyard" and they are still there...

I figured I'd place this in the roller coaster games area and see if anyone has opinions... I have been considering purchasing a video game system and was wondering what people thought was better Xbox or PlayStation. I've been playing PC games for several years and haven't played "video games" since Colecovision when I was a kid (yes I'm old).

Those of us coming from colleges within an hour or so of the park won't be arriving until later this week- we have finals this week. -

Don't get too excited- the Pre-Opening Ride Nights are usually the less popular/easy to learn rides. When I worked there in '99 one of the 1st nights was Chaos/Trioka/Ski Jumper thingy and Power Tower was later on. Raptor in the Dark was a few weeks into the season. Its mostly a matter of its harder to learn the bigger attractions. Later in the season they have a night party in the water park. -

Do any of the CP guys (or gals) know that the Pre Opening Week Employee Ride Night rides are yet? I won't pop up until Thursday or Friday (8th or 9th)- work wise as I have 1.5 finals left next week and I am working at least Mon & Tue at my campus job. -

Maybe we should have a CP-TPR Member Social or something- there's already five of us who have replied as working there. -
Hi all, Just found out my assigned ride this summer is Demon Drop- ya'll stop by and say hello (and see that I am not as odd as some on here think that I am). Note: My nametag will say "Ray- Cleveland State University" not BrownStreak (gawd- why did I choose that name?). Anyone else from the site working at a park this summer that would like to let TPR readers know their locations?

Floorless Coasters....Great or Hype?
BrownStreak replied to ChrisFL's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I disagree that the floorless concept only works in the front. The fact that you have nothing under your feet is still fun disorientation and you don't get the full force in your feet the way you do on inverts. I think a six or eight-across floorless built on a narrow track would be awsome- nothing underneath you and nothing on top. -
Has a waterslide ever scared you?
BrownStreak replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There is a small water park which is part of Fantasy Island (near Niagara Falls on the US side). Their two main slides have a really weird way of entering the splash-down area. One of the chute walls ends and one keeps going and you slide onto the rounded thing in the water which causes you to flip into the water at odd angles which is very disorienting the first time you ride it. I would encourage anyone that is going to be in that area to definately hit up this tiny park with very little coverage- the Silver Comet is awsome and since GL's Big Dipper is SBNO it has moved up into my top5 favorite woodies! -
Cedar Point - Photo TR - 7.29.07-7.30.07
BrownStreak replied to Theme-Park-Urge's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I have a quick question about Cedar Point and rather than start a whole new thread for a small question I thought I would just throw it in here with your wonderful photos. On CP's website I was looking at the webcams and one of them is facing towards the lagoon end of the skyway- out towards the big wheel and such. On the ground is a big white line starting off on the main midway and bending to run under and beyond where the cam is. What is this? Anyone know? To give you a better idea where the cam is (in case they move it)- Corkscrew is barely visable to the left and Space Spiral and MaxAir are on the far right with their Wicked Whatever also in view. This line runs down the opposite side of the midway from the pagoda and bends to run down towards the Million Dollar Midway (anyone besides me remember it being called that?) -
Disneyland Mark VII Monorail Discussion
BrownStreak replied to bflag's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Are the new trains going to have that "classic" horn that you used to hear in some of the older footage of the monorail on the Wonderful World of Disney park specials?
