Ahh so we have a coaster enthusiast newbie on our hands eh? To answer your question about the splashdown, a splashdown is generally a pool of water placed at the end of a drop on a water ride, normally used to slow the boat/log/whatever down.... Now I would suggest starting here if you wanna look at real coasters first... http://www.rcdb.com/ I also recommend using Google/Yahoo/Wikipedia if you wanna find some information regarding coaster design firms/designers themselves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolliger_%26_Mabillard This is B&M. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intamin Intamin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow_Dynamics Arrow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gravity_Group The Gravity Group http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Coasters_International GCI Watch POVs (onride videos) or ride actual coasters if you want to get a feel for the layouts. Lurk around enthusiast message boards (like this one) to gain a bit more knowlege about the industry itself, parks, coasters, and their design companies. Look at other people's RCT parks and learn from those as well. Hope this helps... Be sure to have fun! EDIT: Some splashdown pics... cb_splash_905.bmp Water splashdown on a B&M coaster. Wanna see more, click the "Theme Park Artwork" link in my sig [/shameless plug] Water splash is on the right of this pic after the drop... *Drawn by me* Taken from Great Adventure History - Splashdown is to the left. TG is getting a SF rehab sometime soon. And I've heard from some sources that TG has been running better this year than in previous ones... Mean Streak was "ruined" because the ride was tearing itself apart so CP had to place trims throughout the ride to reduce maintenance. These coasters were huge, which probably led to high maintenance costs. Not to mention these parks really aren't known for having the best maintenance teams in the world. However, I'm not really sure about that. -

Somebody needs to go down there and post pics... BTW: I read on KD Fansite that they're possibly tearing out the concrete waterpark and bringing back Lake Charles. http://www.kdfansite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=545 This is very exciting... Now they should bring back Rebel Yell's old entrance... -

1. I just PMed a bunch of people. Please reply... - Three people have reserved their spots for the PCW postcards as of today. I'm still looking for one person to make their offer on them... If you're interested in the PCW Wonder Mountain postcard and/or the PCW Top Gun postcard, you'll have to wait behind three other people. - I'm still looking for donations for the brochures I lost on Monday. Does anybody have extras they're willing to give up for a cause? - I've really reconsidered this hiatus and I'll probably push it back because so many people are making offers right now. I have enough envelopes for six trades. I have... Brochures: 2009 BGW x6 2008 Ocean Breeze Waterpark x2 Extra: 2009 BGW Event x1 ------ Reserve your spot... 1997-1998 PCW Wonder Mountain postcard** 1997-1998 PCW Top Gun postcard*** 1997-1998 Toronto's Centre Island postcard* 1999-2000 New York New York postcard Jan 1988 Space Mountain picture * = number of already reserved spots... -

^ You wouldn't happen to want to donate some of those would you? I have about six envelopes left so I can do about six more trades before quitting. I'm thinking about delaying my trade hiatus because of all these awesome offers going around... Dan - The moment I stop trading is the moment everybody puts up offers. There's gotta be something wrong about that - Nguyen -

netdvn replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry for the double post, but I feel like doing the next one... Hint: - This is an American park. - The park is defunct. - This park was part of a major park chain. - It didn't really last very long. Any other hints would probably give it away... Can you guess? -
^ I lost my prescription glasses not too long ago and I was pretty mad since those were expensive. ^^ Everybody has an opinion on "everything" as long as they've experienced it whether it's food, video games, theme parks, cars, cities, cruise lines, hotels, sports teams, movies.... you get my point and yet we still listen. We read reviews of products online before we try them and read/watch movie reviews before we see one. Opinions are everywhere... Heck you even stated your opinion on other people's opinions.

Mom Angered By Prize At Oaks Park
netdvn replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I knew what symbolized meant when I was 11. ^ I don't think an 11 year old would want a prize with the Playboy bunny on it "just because its cute". And I'm not that surprised that these parks give away adult-themed prizes because they want to appeal to the older set as well as the younger set. I'm pretty sure they had other "age appropriate" prizes that would appeal to an 11 year old, but he didn't want them. I said this once and I'm gonna say it again. The 11 year old probably picked this prize to freak his parents, or maybe he did it on a dare, or maybe he wanted to look cool in front of his friends. -

^ I wish my parents would let me keep all my maps/brochures. If they hadn't thrown any of them away, I'd have tons of brochures/maps dating back to 1992. Now all I have is a Space Mountain picture from 1988, a DL's 40th toy from 1995, some postcards from 1997-1998, and about 14 brochures that I've gotten in trades.(1999-2009) -

Its gonna be difficult to trade any 08/09 SFGAm maps/brochures since a ton of people are putting them up for trade. Are there any Wisconsin Welcome Centers near your house that you can stop by? Could you stop by one on any trips to SFGAm and pick up some brochures? Dan - Need some brochures!! -
The Brochure/Map Trade Topic
netdvn replied to Reality15's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^ Jerry has a whole stack of SFGAm maps/brochures that he's been trading to just about everybody who collects maps/brochures in this topic (and on Coaster-Net) so it would be extremely difficult to trade out any SFGAm maps/brochures from 2009 here... Do you live close to the Dells? Can you get brochures/maps for any of the local hotel/waterparks, regular waterparks (Noah's Ark), Timber Falls, and Mount Olympus? If so, I would be glad to step out of my trading hiatus to help you increase your brochure/map collection. I have a bunch of BGW 2009 brochures, 2 Ocean Breeze Waterpark brochures, and a BGW 2009 event calendar brochure that I'll be willing to offer you. I also have some coupons that I'll offer just in case you head down to Virginia within the next few weeks. My collection isn't that big because of my anti-brochure parents, but I'll be glad to increse yours (and mine) if you're interested... -

Aside from some modifications, your coaster looks almost exactly like a mirror image of Turn of the Century/Demon at both Great America parks. Is that where you got your inspiration? -
RCT2 Huron Park
netdvn replied to Lucius's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
- Will you be using custom scenery or just stuff found in the game? - Are you going for realism? The Good: - The theming on the splash boats is good. - I love the Enterprise building. The Bad: - The park lacks atmosphere. - The B&M doesn't seem realistic. (Ignore this comment if you're going after a fantasy-like feel to the park) - The splash boat layout doesn't seem realistic either.. Suggestions: - Add tons of scenery to make the park look nicer. Trees, flowers, and theming go a long way (especially around rides) - Use a different type of coaster for the B&M. B&M normally doesn't design coasters like that. - Add a splashdown to the splash boat for a more realistic feel. - Don't forget to add food stalls and bathrooms. Overall: - I can see this park going very far. The lack of scenery is my biggest issue. If you're going for a realistic feel, try looking at pictures of actual rides and designing them based on real ones. If not, the park looks great overall. Dan - Sorry for sounding too harsh... -
Mom Angered By Prize At Oaks Park
netdvn replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I remember reading this on CB not too long ago An 11 year old who doesn't know what Playboy is, must be heavily sheltered by his parents. Heck I was sheltered by my parents and I knew what Playboy was when I was 11. He probably knew what Playboy was and thought it would be fun to freak his parents out with the prize he got. Sometimes I think that kids these days have it so easy and other times I feel sorry for them for having to deal with overprotective, conservative parents that never let them have any fun. -

^ OMG! I'm really tempted to start trading again just for that offer. I have an extra SFGAm 2009 map that I got earlier thanks to Jerry. Interested? - Dan "Sorry Jerry, I just need some more brochures" - Nguyen -
^ Because everybody's entititled to their own opinion... For example, nobody cares about bashing SF because experience shows that SF parks are dirty, have lazy employees, horrible operations, dirty pathways, and expensive food/drink/goods/fluffy overmedicated bunnies, etc. But you try to defend SF for improving their image and everybody attacks you. Same with parks like Knoebels... Nobody expects other enthusiasts to bash the smaller, less corporate parks because it's not normal. Maybe the kid had a horrible ride on Phoenix and prefers to ride the coasters at KD. Or maybe he is one-sided and prefers KD to every park in the world. When somebody bashes Knoebels for having "boring" rides, I'm pretty sure other enthusiasts would jump all over them, calling them a fanboy or ignorant, etc... Another example... Everybody loves BGW, but I think it's overrated. Aside from the roller coasters and water rides, there's really nothing else left to do. Sure Da Vinci's Garden is pretty and there is atmosphere in some parts of the park, but its mainly a park filled with generic carnival rides and flowers. I rarely spend a full day there because once you've seen all the shows, and ridden all the coasters a million times, there really isn't that much left to do there... [/long winded rant]
