  1. I thought the show was terrible. During the Hades segment, they showed clips from Noah's Ark, Timber Falls and Riverview into their description of Mt. Olympus. I thought that was really crappy, and I'm sure the officials at Mt. Olympus didn't appreciate it. Also, they didn't go into any real description of why Mt. O is a great place to drive Go Karts. They have some really unique tracks, and they showed a few clips of them, but didn't explain any of the cool tracks (like Medusa's Drop, Posideon and Trojan Horse comes to mind). Also, I hated the graphics for the #3, #2 rides/parks, and especially the winner graphics where they kept flashing the Golden Ticket across the screen. It almost gave me a seizure...Not really, but my head did explode... All in all, I thought it was the worst amusement park-related show I've seen. I was sorely disappointed in the Travel Channel's poor effort. The only good thing was getting to see some love for Hades and Holiday World's awesome friendliness.
  2. Comedian Demetri Martin (Daily Show contributor) rearranged all the words on the back of a Rolling Rock bottle and made a poem out of them. Pretty funny. http://www.slate.com/id/2101150/sidebar/2101284/ent/2101283/
  3. Both Thunderhawk and Phoenix are outstanding on the "Schmeck Seat", which is front car, third row. If it rains when you go to Knoebel's, make sure t ride Twister right afterwards. I've had some of my best roller coaster rides ever on Twister right after afternoon showers. As for Storm Runner, make sure to ride both front and back...the airtime will vary between the two and form an opinion for yourself. Both are pretty sweet. I prefer the front because of the wicked air going into the Zero-G Roll.
  4. "Caption Game threads almost hurt my head worse than this POS coaster!"
  5. I ate at White Castle...once. I learned my lesson. Also, a shout out to Robb for the great serial killer face in that pic from the BTR queue. -Bryan "Culver's is a Waaaaaaayyyyyy better place to stop at across the street from SFGAm" Wood
  6. Utah State is a great shooting team-I wouldn't put it past them to beat Washington. So far, my picks of WI-Milwaukee and Wichita State (my surprise Sweet 16 team) held up. This Pacific/BC game is fantastic! Anyone else using the free internet broadcasts from NCAAsports.com? I'm loving it!
  7. Because CP is sort of a cheap park-outside of spending tons of money for one ride. I was shocked when they added that big "yard sign" a few years back near the causeway and Cleveland Road. I have to say, that's a pretty neat entrance. Even if I wasn't a park nerd, I'd think it's pretty cool.
  8. Tickets are already sold out. That's going to be a busy weekend. -Bryan "I'll wait until El Toro opens" Wood
  9. The restraints sort of look like B&M Speed-Coaster Clamshells, is that what they're like?
  10. Easy there, big guy. I can see how many post could be interpreted like a slant against Intamin, but that was not my intention at all. Title-ing my thread "Another Intamin Death" was simply stating that another man died on an Intamin-built ride, I was not placing blame there. The thing is that a lapbar ride is more prone to ejections. They allow free movement of the torso. It leaves a gray area for ride operators (especially inexperienced ones) for larger riders as to whether they can ride where as Over-The-Shoulders (even on Intamin rides) would eliminate. Whether from people being idiots on rides (the Raven and Triple Hurricane incidents), to operators allowing people too large to ride (S:RoS, Perilous Plunge incidents), lapbar rides seem to have more ejections than rides with OTSR's. In fact, the news today is that the man was killed because operators started the ride before the man was secured and did not check restraints. -Bryan "not trying to slander anybody" Wood
  11. http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/theworld/2006/March/theworld_March123.xml&section=theworld&col= I know this ride has lapbars...could they be to blame again? -Bryan "These are always so sad" Wood
  12. I'm so happy Crash won. I thought that movie or Good Night and Good Luck were the best movies of the year. I'm glad the Academy made the right choices in a lot of categories...Resse Witherspoon and Wallace and Gromit were the best in their categories and got the nod. It's a shame Amy Adams didn't win for Junebug, however.
  13. Welcome to the forums. Here's a tip, use the search function up top. It works wonders and it will reveal a thread where we've discussed this before: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22086&highlight=batman+sfdl
  14. Heck no! We have Jones all over here in northern Ohio... I love jones. I also loved Surge so Im anxious for Vaults appearance up here. I thought the same thing...but Vault is nothing like Surge. Vault tastes a lot like Mello Yello, and that's not a good thing.
  15. RC and Squirt is nationwide. Best. Soda. Ever. I'm gonna pick up a ton of it when I'm in Charlotte next month. They wanted to roll it out nationwide in bottles as a specialty soda, but it never happened.
  16. From a Canadian news website...this was posted a few hours ago: -Bryan "Maeby this is happening after all" Wood
  17. All she would've had to do is declare war on them and they would've automatically surrendered! Seriously though, it's always sad to see things like this happen at a place regarded as the happiest on earth.
  18. http://www.whirlin.com/spin.html Here are all the themes those family spin rides come in. -Bryan "Bring on Chilly Willy" Wood
  19. Gotta love Sellner rides...they're always crazy! (unless Cedar Fair operates them)
  20. I had an issue, too. I had this forum bookmarked under tpr.com/forum, and it prompted me for the same thing. However, I updated my bookmark to tpr.com/forum/index.php and it gives me no problems.
  21. http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2006/02/24/1405348.htm A much better article of what Shapiro wants to do with parks like SFA.
  22. This is exactly why Shapiro does not want to unload parks right away, he wants to see if they'll turn profit under his guidelines for improving the family experience.
  23. Just because the land is valuable doesn't mean they'll sell it. If they can turn a really good profit this season...they might be inclined to keep it around.
  24. A big shout-out to Arthur Levine of about.com for landing an interview with Mark Shapiro. http://themeparks.about.com/od/sixflagsarticles/a/shapiro2006.htm The interview clears up some misconceptions (mainly started by some "all-knowing" enthusiasses), and I have to say I'm impressed with where he wants to take the company. It's going to take some time, but we're all better off with him at the helm as opposed to the old guys.
  25. Moreso than the Corkscrew is the "Batwing"...the anti-Cobra Roll. It used to be on a lot of Arrow mega-looper coasters (Vortex, Viper-SFDL, Steel Phantom), but like Arrow Coasters, aren't showing up anymore.
