I'll be there. I have no life. -
That's actually quite true. From what I remember, the park was in the black - very small profits, but in the black nonetheless. The owner had been expecting so much more in the later years, but it never developed into the cash cow he had been hoping for. When Chaos opened in the late 80's (early 90 maybe) it was a HUGE capital investment (7m+) and it took several years to recover from that as the ride aged, people weren't exactly having to go back to ride it again. (Big spiral in a box with a soundtrack!) It took until '95 (the last year I went) for the finances to recover enough to install another major ride, Hangman. (Now Kong at SFDK) The profit margin never got as fat as had been projected. The repeat business just wasn't as high as been hoped, and when tourists head for (and think of) Nashville, the thought of hitting an amusement park doesn't readily come to mind. When the proposed buyout of the park came, the offer was "too good to be true" for the owner. He finally got that cash in hand and ran. That's what I remember, 15+ years after the fact. So yes, I took some liberties with the mall/amusement park thing. (AND I enjoyed it!) But, I have grown an almost hatred toward HRP/FMP/xxxPark as myself and others have said before it was built, it will not survive. Period. Kudos, though, to the people making money off failure. If it works.... JJ (and NO Guy, xxxPark is NOT a real possibility. The x's are there for any future acronym that may be used by the owner's of that plot of land. So, don't get your hopes up!)

As always, fantastic photos Hanno!! -
I'd say less. Far less. Since the beginning, many people (including myself) have said this park would fail. And... it did. Twice. It's plain and simple: the demographics for the area WILL NOT support a park of this size, at any price. Granted, it *may* open again (which I highly doubt), only to fail a third time. Guaranteed. If Myrtle Beach Pavilion, could barely break even in its last 2 seasons, operating in the heart of Myrtle Beach, there's just no way that this could work. It seems like a scary parallel to Six Flags New Orleans: An empty park, with an owner and/or investors who are still looking for someone to open/manage/operate a rapidly deteriorating park. I'm just surprised that I didn't see Danny Rogers name in that article. JJ

Most Overrated coaster?
OldJJman replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How can you say a ride is overrated if you have never been on it??? Lately, I think people are confusing the term "overrated" with "popular". Especially, if that ride is popular with the GP. At the beginning of this thread, it was about coasters that ranked so highly in different, even skewed polls ((aka: Discovery Channel)). While a coaster may rank highly with the GP and DSC polls (among others like USA Today etc...) most enthusiasts would disagree with those polls anyway. This thread I'd more liken to those who have disagreed with the rankings done in Mitch's poll. Which is fine with me, everyone has their own personal preferences, and opinions. I seriously doubt though, that a few of the coasters mentioned on the last few pages would rank highly anywhere except with the GP. Especially, an SLC. JJ -
Actually 6, as it did for quite some time. Including the preview days and opening day, (when the park was damn near empty). Problem was, they had quite a few problems with the staters overheating, causing stacking in the station. Their first solution was to make 5 trains the norm on heavy days (as it is now) which helped for a time. Eventually, they installed the current misters on the staters, to keep them from overheating and creating a shutdown (not necessarily an e-stop). JJ

Theme Park Review in JAPAN! 2011
OldJJman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cool. I thought it was a really nice place anyway! Our hotel was about 3 blocks from the JR station, on the opposite side of the tracks from the 6-story Akihabara -

Just curious. Did you guys stay in Nagoya during that run? That's where we stayed when we went to Universal (and other places) in 2007. -
