Simple: The park isn't making as much money as it should, and needs a new ride to boost attendance, or needs more to compete with other parks. That's how you could justify it. It's just like Kings Dominion getting a Giga Coaster, while Cedar Point is getting a water ride doesn't mean KD is Cedar Fair's most profitable park.

What makes a rough coaster?
MrX8991 replied to spacemtfan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I remember reading somewhere that Arrow's problem was that they heartlined their track incorrectly, and their "heartline" is actually near the rider's knees, thus creating a rougher ride on the head. -
Mystic Point is starting to look really interesting, and that's now the part I'm looking forward to the most. As for the Grizzly Mountain Coaster, I sure hope Vekoma can finally figure out how to make a ride that doesn't become rough in 3 years. Expedition Everest is already beginning to shake down the course, and I already see it being really bad in 10 years.

What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
MrX8991 replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Millennium Force (Don't care if it doesn't have much airtime, it's just plain fun) 2. Maverick 3. California Screamin' 4. Raging Bull 5. Space Mountain: De La Terre A La Lune (None of that Mission 2 crap) 6. SheiKra 7. Top Thrill Dragster (It's a one trick pony, but it's one fantastic trick) 8. Manta 9. Viper (Great American version) 10. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Paris) (There's about 5 coasters that could just as easily fit in this spot) -
I like that thread, but always want to punch myself in the face when one of those situations arise.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
MrX8991 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I saw one video (Top Ten Coasters at Great Adventure) where the guy didn't go the "taller is better" route and placed Kingda Ka 4th (with El Toro, Bizarro, and Nitro as 3, 2, 1 respectively), and most of the comments were "ur wrong the Kingdaka is the best." One person even said that since Kingda Ka wasn't his number 1, he must not have ridden it. -
It looks like it's done now. Thanks for the quick response, guys!

You forgot a Batman clone at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. -
List the parks you have visited in 2009
MrX8991 replied to Groteslurf's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Magic Kingdom Epcot Disney's Hollywood Studios Disney's Animal Kingdom Universal Studios Orlando Universal's Islands of Adventure Sea World Orlando Busch Gardens Tampa The last two were first time visits. I've visited more parks this year than any other year. -
You're right...except it's not the first X-car coaster, it's not the first coaster with a vertical lift, it's not the first coaster to play music while you ride, it's not the first coaster with light-up trains, and it's not the first coaster to film you and sell an over-priced DVD of the film. The touch screens allowing you to select your song are the only parts that are new, and those weren't the things that caused the most delays.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I disagree. I think all of the hype of the land clearing and the obsessive analysis of the clues is what keeps making them spit out even more cryptic clues. I mean, why would they even mention Togo if not to generate even more talk? It has basically become a joke on all of those who sit and try to connect dots when there are no connections to be made. -
I know some rides do have a "the" on the front. I don't like it when "the" is stuffed in front of a name that doesn't have "the" in it. As for models, that's fine. I'm really picky when it comes to ride names. I think it's because of the amount of times I hear "Fast Track" and "that there space shuttle ride" when I go to Disney World. After a while, it really gets on my nerves.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

Ordinarily, I wouldn't post a YouTube comment, but this one was really bad. This was on a video of the newest (crappiest) version of Spaceship Earth. "nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooo they took out the city at the end the one where thay say "we have gotten far on this rock we call home and some day we will go ferther and it all started with a little planit called earth" that was the collest part of the ride it was also what inspiered my uncle to start iventing whered stuff" -
Let me sum up my pet peeve using quotes from my trip to Cedar Point last year. "Let's ride THE Raptor!" "THE Maverick was fun!" "THE Blue Streak looks like a kiddie ride!" And from Facebook "Is that THE Millennium Force? I love that ride!" It's a minor pet peeve, but annoying once you hear it every 5 seconds.

I'd say pretty much every ride op at every Anheuser-Busch park I've been to. I couldn't do a worse job and look that disinterested if I tried.

Being both a video game fan and a roller coaster enthusiast, I must say that Spin Gear looks amazing! Of course, an Intamin accelerator would have been a better Sonic coaster: It's fast, the way up represents Sonic's rise to fame, and the way down represents the spiraling nosedive in quality. Still, the park looks like a really good version of Disney Quest.

THANK YOU! Seriously, all anybody ever wanted was basically another Intamin hyper, and now that it's here, "It has OTSR so it sucks." That is, at best, a minor complaint, not a "totally destroys the ride" complaint. Plus, you're talking about a ride being painful before it's been built! I think I've banged my head more reading this topic than this ride ever will. -

Apparently, even though they're wrong. Can't wait to get a nice chop to the shoulder through some of those transitions. Should make for some interesting bruises. I'd say so. You pull the restraint down over your head, and there is a bar on your lap. Enough said. Small problem, there are those two pesky blunt rubber objects positioned over my shoulders. Not sure how anyone could call those anything other then what they are, over the shoulder restraints. Sorry, I should have clarified: I meant the "overhead lap bar" description was correct. The second half about "not being OSTR" is incorrect. I think they're just trying to show how their restraints are different than typical OTSR. Plus, I found Maverick's restraints to be better than B&Ms: Instead of head banging, I got neck banging, which I must say is significantly more tolerable as it didn't result in blood-red ears. -

For the same reason Superman flies over New Orleans in Six Flags Great America, or Stitch's Great Escape, a prequel to a movie that takes place in the present, and Monster's Inc. are in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom: Nobody bothers with appropriate theming anymore. -

Whoa, for a second there, I thought I had gone crazy when I saw that most of the posts of the past 2 hours were gone. Anyways, I think it looks like a Millennium Force/Maverick hybrid. Definitely a great ride!
