Coaster trip to east coast and more - ADVICE PLEASE!
larrygator replied to riddler67's topic in Ask Alvey
Waldameer is a half-day park on the way from Niagara Falls to Cedar Point with a new woodie opening soon. After Cedar Point I would skip Kings Island and head towards the state of Virginia stopping at Kennywood and/or Knoebels and/or HersheyPark. If you can only do one park in Virginia I would recommend Busch Gardens over Kings Dominion. -

Does anyone use RSS feeds?
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I use MyYahoo as my home page and get RSS feeds for: Major News events, local news events, sports news, advertising news, technology news. Yes, I would probably include a TPR feed if it existed. However I spend so much time on this site it probably wouldn't matter to me, but it would be more useful for your casual guests. -
What? Nothing? Have people not watched it yet? Although a slow episode it moved the story along. Sounds like Jack finds out that he is related to Claire (Says to Kate regarding Aaron - "You're not even related to him) I still think Jin is alive in the look aheads based on the way he told Charlotte to get "Sun and my baby on the next helicopter." I interpreted this to mean he knows he is not getting off the island. But who knows. I don't understand how the mercenaries got away from old smokey. The sound of the smoke alarm going off in Jack's hospital reminded me of the sound in the hatch when numbers needed to be input.

For work I'm read a lot of magazines. However, the one I always look forward to and enjoy the most is Smithsonian. The Week is very good at keeping me informed on current events.

^I would not call a translation problem between two languages stupid. Many people have trouble mastering a single language.

Test Tube Meat How will this be viewed by those who are vegetarians because of animal abuse? No animals are harmed in the process.

^Unless he is calling himself out for making that post. His communication non-skills are so bad, I can't understand what he is trying to say. Self promotion is lame. Calling attention to yourself for being stupid is just pathetic.

Am going to Six Flags Great Adventure. Any suggestions?
larrygator replied to NoLimitsXIII's topic in Ask Alvey
Accurate information on the Flash Pass options at SFGAdv can be found on the Six Flags website. Park is generally not crowded in April and starts getting more crowded as as school trips trips in mid-May. Sundays are less crowded than Saturdays and the park generally clears out on Sunday night 90 minutes before closing time. Weekends in September after Labor Day and before the start of Fright Fest events are relatively light. -
Best advice I can give is to make sure there is a reason for everything on your resume. If you are interviewing for a job while in or right out of college and put on your resume that you delivered newspapers in high school then you better be prepared to talk about how that experience changed you. i.e.: You didn't get an allowance so this was your spending money, used savings to buy a car, learned responsibility, learned how to interact one-on-one with customers, time management skills. When I interview an junior level applicant at my workplace I would rather discuss a few small elements on someone's resume and tightening up your resume ensures that a potential employer discusses only the areas you are most comfortable talking about. Also, if you are sending out a cover letter make it relevant to the position. Lastly, always follow-up with a thank you note. It used to be that this needed to be a real snail mail encounter, but at least in my industry e-mail ia now an acceptable thank you channel. After you spell check and proof read your resume and cover letter, proof read it again. Then give it to someone else to proof read. (With that said I did not proof read this post, but I did spell check) First impressions mean a lot.

^What hotel are you staying at and how many people are traveling in your group? You can take a train to Newark to catch buses, however it is unlikely that any scheduled bus will stop right at your hotel. If you have 3 or more people in your group your best option is probably hiring car service to pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel. I really can't recommend any particular car service outfit, but you can do an online search for a list of companies. You could also just pick up a cab right after you arrive at Newark Airport. If you are arriving between 7AM-10PM, a line of cabs ready to hire is always waiting at the taxi stand. However, you will probably need the hotel to call ahead to schedule a ride back to the airport. ^^andy_e219 - You should be prepared to get the premium Flash Pass option if you want to ride everything. The park is at full capacity on weekends in August, and some weekdays can be very crowded, also. ^^^NoLimitsXIII - See above reco on a Flash Pass. Get to the park when it opens and head to El Toro or Kingda Ka first and the other one second. If your priority is all the coasters then make a counter clockwise circle hitting, GASM, S:UF, new Batman coaster, B:TR, Nitro, kiddie coaster, Skull Mountain, Blackbeard, Runaway Train, Medusa, Rolling Thunder. Then spend the rest of the time re-riding El Toro and Nitro. Don't worry about missing flats - there are none worth riding. The Tiger show on the Golden Kingdom is worth attending if you need a sit-down break. I think the Boardwalk area provides the best variety and quality of food in the park. But everyone has different tastes so you will get multiple opinions posting the generic question "where should I eat?" Some people with cars like leaving the park to eat to get better value at Burger King, McDonalds or other locals places. Personally - I don't like to waste an hour in that manner by leaving the park and heading back later. My time is more valuable than the $3 I'll save on food. -
Xetulul & Xocomil in Guatemala Trip Reports
larrygator replied to packfanlv's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
This is a great PTR. No need to be funny and witty when displaying pictures of a place that very few people on this site have ever seen in person. -
The Powerade is clearly yellow. However I picked green in the poll. Why? I just thought it was a random question and answered before viewing the PTR. If have no idea why I would expect randomness on TPR.

NFL draft! watch it? Biggest bust?
larrygator replied to amusing_parks's topic in Random, Random, Random
^The Lions had a great draft. They didn't pick a WR until the 5th round. For the record - I think Kevin Smith is a very good pick in Round 3. -
Opening day at Knoebels TR
larrygator replied to ctriceman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Phoenix was running great with two train operation on Saturday, also. As an aside, I rode El Toro today (the after riding Phoenix) and I still prefer Phoenix's 12 moments of air over El Toro 5 more powerful pops. -
Opening day at Knoebels TR
larrygator replied to ctriceman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't remember Skloosh running on opening day in the past. The flyers were the best part of Saturday. I had multiple rides while 3 different ride operators were working and there was plenty of snapping action with no chastizing from the ride ops. I also had a couple of laps on the Skooters while some of the GCI guys were in the arena. They really know how to abuse each other on that ride.
